When I'm falling asleep and a noise wakes me up and makes that vague pattern that plays over your closed eyes to freak out for an instant, it kind of looks like that.
On the one hand, Jacob spending 11 hours on his speed draw is wild. On the other hand, the fact that he made a WHOLE-ASS GAME in only 11 hours is WILD. It is so incredibly good, I want to see a million more pixel arts and games from him
I mean... yeah, but just once scene already takes so much time when you're not familiar with Godot! Since this episode came out, I've been working on a similar thing, I spent way more time than 11h and I just started coding the dialog interface... the amount of tutorials I've watched alone is probably more than 11h 😅
@@zackswitch9656 listen as a game dev student, a professor would definitely call this a “whole ass game” for someone’s FIRST time using multiple programs. jacob was able to accomplish more in 11 hours than a lot of students learn over an entire semester, because you rarely start with something like full sprites, collision, and dialogue boxes (even if the program has an extension that makes adding the dialogue easy). yes it’s technically a tech demo but this is extremely impressive for someone’s very first time doing this kind of work and under a limited deadline. i think a little bit of hyperbole is allowed.
I was so incredibly impressed and honestly so incredibly surprised. I knew they all were talented/worked hard, but as someone who only recently started watching recent episodes, this blew me away.
We went from "Julia, is this Blender?" to: Nathan, is this BLENDER AND A LIMERICK? Jacob, is this A GAME? Karina, is this BLOCK PRINTING? and Julia, is this A FREAKING WOODEN ANIMATRONIC? I knew the new schedule would allow for more ambitious videos, but honestly, I think this just became my new favorite drawfee episode
ok as someone who took a university course on using blender, nathan's dinosaur surprised me, for multiple reasons, mostly because when I first started the course, they basically said two things. A) Don't do organic things, those are hard to model, we will not be doing any organics until the second year of this class because they are so hard to model. B) Don't colour things using UV maps, colour them using the texture tool, using UV maps is hard and we won't be doing that until the second year of the class because its so hard. Anyways Nathan, congrats on designing an organic creature coloured with UV maps on your first time using blender.
I also took a class on 3d modeling (for animation) and my thought like halfway through was "man, Nathan sure is confident in his modeling, I only ever made things using 1 shape that was extruded into the full model" only to realize he probably was looking at some prettg advanced and complex tutorials that probably arent the best for your very first model
@@Avruthlelbh True, but its not even that- its just that those specific things to be harder/more frustrating to grasp right off the bat- so they tend to save them for later once youre more familiar with the tools youre using. That sorta like complaining that a woodworking class teaches you how to cut a square out with the saw before asking you to carve curved shapes
i was taught very similarly but then they chucked us in at the deep end for organic modelling and wanted a full fruit bowl of a bunch of different fruit and a self portrait head model for the same assignment. think i probably would have learned how to model better had i just used online tutorials and not the way they did it at my uni
I genuinely love that you guys weren't ashamed to show how you struggled to work with these new media. It's honest and shows people that you do mess up and maybe make something you don't like or that doesn't turn out how you want your first time doing something.
I’m so happy for Jacob that he got his ‘Popped off’ moment! He does it more than he may realize so it’s awesome for him to outwardly feel that way about this!
New recording schedule really justifying itself, i love getting crazy "i was finished and then decided to double the work i did because the idea was cool" vids like this
“I’ve already made the sprites how hard could it be to make a quick lil game to go with em?” Is written in the tombstone of every indie game dev who ever existed. ONE OF US. ONE OF US. ONE OF US
It's either 'I've got this art, how hard could making a game be?' or 'I've got this game with placeholder assets, how hard could making the final art be?'
@@BlandoGamingsame dude I’m a pretty good programmer but can’t draw for shit and that’s a problem for someone who’s inspiration games are things like Hollow Knight and Hades 😭😭
@@Fafhrd42 for me it's the secret third option: i've got an idea for a game, how hard could it be to make art for it? (i do use placeholder art but a lot of the time i just jump straight into making assets... to a fault)
This is instantly one of my favourite episodes. Like I definitely want you all not to overdo it, and to have a good work-life balance, but when you go high-concept high-effort like this, it is *such* a treat. All four of these projects were an utter joy to watch. Almost all of them are media I have pipe dreams of properly learning, and I am in danger of being inspired to actually try getting back into one or more of them.
The fact that Jacob learned Godot just for a Drawfee video and here I am still working on the art for my game after a year, having barely touched Godot at all... I am shook, upset, offended, and now surprisingly much more inspired to start making this thing. Thanks Jacob.
lol same I'm still in the early days of developing my game after nearly two years and can't imagine how Jacob managed to do all that, but it's also really inspirational. Best of luck to you!
OMG. I'm a sculptor, and Julia got SO much better of a result than I was expecting. Honestly! Not because I don't think Julia isn't capable, but because I know how many pitfalls come with that specific type of project. Moving Dioramas are SOOOOOooooooo much more than people think they'll be, just logistically WAY more complicated. And if you don't have any experience navigating those pitfalls it's really hard to get anything workable the first few tries. I know the scale was off and the movement was a little clunky, but still, FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC job!!!
ACTUALLY foaming at the MOUTH like a RABID DOG at Jacob's speed draw. To say he popped off is an understatement! Where is my jaw, you ask? On. The. FLOOR!
@@katiereed5038 Oho, well then if you're prone to fainting I recommend you sit down because you are going to gasp SO deep your lungs invert. This is a promise and a warning.
The fact that it came in parts too. He’d finish the sprites and be like “but that’s not all!” Then, he finished the sprites from all angles and then, “but that’s not all!”
Oh my gosh, this makes so much sense for Jacob! He made comics, he games, he makes music. Like…this feels like such a great avenue for him. I'm so delighted!
As a printmaker, you did super good with your first try, Karina! The softer the lino / rubber the easier it is to just tear or accidentally cut. Easier on the hand and to cut, but you don't get as many prints and it might break ;-; So don't feel bad for your tiny tiger having issues because he looks super cute and literally everyone who does block printing has made the same mistake (I have glued bits back to my block for quick fix a TON lmao). You all did fantastic!!
This video is a proof of concept for a show I'd love to see the Drawfee gang do that I call Drawfee Multimedia, where a guest artist comes in and teaches the gang how to use a medium they've never used before and they have to complete little challenges with it
I know you all have actual metrics for this, but this episode was a legit banger to me. From concept to execution - this is what I love about Drawfee all put together: cool art, role modeling the learning experience, good goofs, and even better friendship! 1. I was so excited to see Nathan try blender. I know Nathan wasn't happy with the product, but as a first attempt, he did everything he was trying to accomplish and made it work with what his skill level/ time limit was. He made a freaking green dinosaur! 2. Jacob's is so impressive to me because it combined the simple art style he likes with something we haven't really experienced on the channel before. He also made something so complicated feel very approachable in taking that extra step to make a scene. 3. I love seeing how Karina combines mediums, especially as a digital art channel. Bringing in how digital and traditional can work together is so cool and brings something fresh to the Drawfee program. Print block is also something that just generally interests me, and this encouraged me to try myself! 4. I could not wait to see Julia's product, even though I liked seeing the planning and preparation. I think using the dremmel made this feel more approachable for me as a viewer, and yet I am always so impressed with how creatively Julia approaches her art. I know this isn't about the art, but the sibling reveal (my first time anyway) was fun too!
Absolutely agree with all of this. It’s so great to go from the announcement that they’re going to be doing fewer videos so they can do videos that interest them more to this. They all seemed like they were really engaged and creatively fulfilled and it was very inspiring and also fun to watch 😊
I literally cannot express how many times I was like hyper excitedly exclaiming “no WAYYY” during this video it’s truly incredible (Jacob lowkey should develop an RPG it’s such a good combo of his creative skills and interests)
i'm so charmed by the pictures of julia carving wooden parts on her kitchen table while watching football. it's a delightfully dadlike moment, especially with her brother also involved in creating something for a long time that in the end may not even work good but they sure did it together.
It really felt like my family and I every time I took a diorama project at school way too far and the whole family ended up getting involved. Good times. (for me! my parents may have a slightly different view on the matter, considering the number of grey hairs I added to their head through school projects alone...)
As a professional game programmer, I'm qualified to say: Jacob did an incredible job, full stop. It's not easy getting started, and to get something that well put-together in just 11 hours (including the art!) without a coding background is very, very impressive. Also I took an entire semester of 3D modeling and Nathan's dino lie is so much better than the stuff that I spent that whole class working on...
I went to college for engineering, and one of my classes gave us like 2-3 weeks for something like Julia's project, and even then we were struggling. Julia's automata is absolutely fantastic
My favorite thing in these speed-arts is when one of the Drawfs complements a thing that’s being done and then the Drawf whose speed-art is playing just goes, “Yeah, I actually hated it, so it’s gone now.”
This might be my favorite Drawfee video. Just the fact that all four of you tried something new and made it work, even if it wasn't always what you wanted it to be.
I'd give anything to see Drawfee doing weird performance art. Nathan standing around painted like one of those human statues. Julia flopping on the ground in a fish costume. Edit: Karina emerging from a cave with an anime body pillow. Jacob going through escalatingly strange therapy sessions after every intro bit
Shoutout to Nathan for getting this prompt and deciding to take on one of the most complex art mediums possible. Love this attack Dino and his glitch arms so much 🦖
This is such an ambitious one, and I just want to point out what achievement each of you guys made: - Nathan went 3D, something I haven't seen since the 3D reference model video. - Jacob made a game. An entire thing, using an actual engine. - Karina used woodworking. I don't think I've seen woodworking from Karina before. - Julia, being JULIA, made an entire diorama from scratch. All of you, good work on this one, seriously.
This episode floored me. I realized how much ive been putting off my creative interests but seeing the drawfee crew explore new creative expressions broke the dam for me and actually got me making art again. Thank you drawfee pals!
I ABSOLUTELY SCREAMED AND STARTED RUNNING CIRCLES AROUND MY HOUSE OUT OF JOY WHEN JACOB'S PROJECT WAS REVEALED EVERYONE did amazing seriously this video is so good and funny. This video is AWESOME! You guys are so skilled and hardworking. Happy to have been a fan for many years, I love this channel so much Edit now that I've finished the video: NATHAN, IS THAT BLENDER?!?! I thought Nathan's dinosaur was so cool! I hope he does more Blender stuff in the future, if he enjoys it. It can be a suuuper useful and fun program and his fun concepts could come to life really well in it!! Karina's print was genuinely sick as hell it'd make an awesome mural. And the fluorescent effect was SO COOL. It seemed like a lot of fun, and now I kind of also want to do stuff like that. I really liked the vibes/message as well Julia's model was really cute!! Her project this episode was really ambitious and I liked it a lot. I'm gonna be so hyped if she makes more minis in the future!
honestly he should just cut out the middleman and make a york dating sim. we all know who most of the fandom would go after (it’s me i’m most of the fandom)
Julia did just a full mock up of a pretty intricate woodwork, Karina made amazing blockprints, Nathan's dinosaur was breathtaking how it looked both 3D and Drawn, Jacob made a whole mini game!! This video is so inspiring and awesome!!
The fact Nathan modelled a whole-ass dinosaur without reference is a feat I mean he might’ve had one on another monitor- but usually you line up a side/front view reference inside the program and work with that
Okay but like I just wanna genuinely thank Jacob with all of my heart! I have been wanting to make a game for for a long time, but every time I would do research into how to do it I would get so overwhelmed that I would give up on anything beyond making up characters and stories for it in my head. And like, I know it sounds kinda silly, but seeing Jacob just *make a thing* - like nbd just one little scene - just like… idk just made something click in my brain that I could, like… do that??? That this challenge is totally beatable actually??? I don’t know how seeing Jacob make the neatest drawtectives fanart ever happened to be the perfect antidote to my paralyzing fear and overwhelm, but it absolutely was! Now I’m hype and ready to go dump out all those ideas and characters in my head and put them into the thing they were made for - I’ve already started! - and I’ve never been more excited in my whole life! Thank you very much for that! 💜💜💜
As Jacob would say on secret sleepover-it’s so beatable!!! Good luck!! And remember to take breaks and be nice to yourself when things get confusing and frustrating. Remember that Jacob makes content for a living, so he can make 11 hours of art work with his schedule. It’s okay if it takes you way more than that, or several sessions of sitting down, doing research, asking folks online. I know it’s easier said than done, but try and find fun in the process too! If it’s miserable, it may not be worth it, or it may lead to early burn out. Have so much fun!!! Make cool stuff!!! 🎊 🎉‼️✨the world is even better with so many weird and fun pixel art games in it!!
JACOB... THIS IS TOO GOOD. I absolutely love that you made a working game scene. You should absolutely do a DRAWCLASS on what you did so we can make a lil game scene! I know youre not a game dev expert but you did the thing, it looks awesome and sometimes learning from someone who just did the thing is more relatable and easy to follow than an expert tutorial. ❤
My video paused because my speaker died at 0:28 right after “Trees have branches, you know” and I waited a full minute thinking it was the silent realization of Julia understanding the joke
This has happened to me at a similarly perfect place in a joke, don’t remember which. I laughed out loud, and then sat there for a full 30 seconds, thinking ‘wow, they’re really letting this pause linger!’
reminds me of the story of how someone accidentally paused during an episode of The Sopranos, didn't notice for minutes, and thought it was a brilliant artistic choice
For the next new-medium challenge Nathan will flesh out a Nobel-winning novel, Jacob will single-handedly make and release Half-Life 3, Karina will open a small printing press that inadvertently helps spark a revolution for which she'll also design the entire propaganda aesthetic that will go on to define a whole era, and Julia will make an actual, seaworthy boat and build a museum with interactive pieces and animatronics inside of it. Then the world will end!
my heart is SO full looking at Jacob's game it's both so cute and so impressive, clearly so much thought and logistics went into it and it looks so good!!! Just busting out idle animations and multiple profiles and walk cycles like it's no issue, coding in multiple systems, writing dialogue for his friends' characters... a pop off moment for sure
I love that it doesn't work. And not because I wanted to see her fail or because I could see the choices she was making were plausible but not going to work. The process was so genuine and determined, and she got so much out of it while being able to genuinely laugh at the result; it shows that all of her previous outstanding endeavors and successes are as earned and impressive as they seemed. I love that Julia is comfortable with the pitfalls of the learning process in a way that I am not. Hopefully, I can learn by watching.
I've been a 3D artist for 8 years and Nathan managing to get that out of blender after a couple days is well deserving of accomplishment and praise. It's never the art part that's hard, it's always the fiddly 3D software weirdness in trying to wrangle the mesh and tools at hand. Great work!
That wood working is crazy, i love it. It does a really good job of showing how much work it takes to make something with wood - it's really easy to watch all these youtube channels of people literally building a house from scratch and think "how hard can it be", the talent of carpenters is amazing.
I have recently started learning blender and watching Jacob use Godot was NOT the motivation I needed because I need to get a solid grip on blender before moving to other projects. I am white-knuckling it, trying to hold on to my blender motivation while my serial-hobbiest-disease is dragging me toward godot
i can give you a first-hand account that carving soft linoleum is very rewarding. I'm pretty sure i still have the (one and only) block i carved in high school, and now that i was reminded that it exists, i would like to make stamps.
42:23 lil assistant joy comes to visit the cat circle 43:15 she's gotta go 43:36 wide-eyed joy + she passes by super quickly 44:40 assistant joy appears once again 46:45 inspector joy 47:57 she's still inspecting
Nothing has made me want to try new art more than this video, it is genuinely an inspiration to see people attempting to make and then kind of failing but making something anyway
0:32 Watching Julia's Baffle-Inator Ray increase in strength from Karina's "Like onions 😌" to Nathan's "L- like onions? 😅" to Jacob's "What the hell?! No! 😡"
love the concept of this video. And I have to say ever since yall took a step back and went to 1 episode a week the quality has gone up so much. Banger episode after banger episode
4 years ago I tried oil painting for the first time. 2 years ago I started painting d&d minis a year ago I started making m own clay minis Now I'm giving away paintings and multi-medium sculptures as holiday and wedding gifts, doing commission models for friend's games, and working on a new type of art project requested by family. Try everything!
this is maybe my favorite episode EVER. y’all’s plan to put out fewer episodes and explore more ideas is 100% perfect!!! i can’t wait to see what else is in the works
Professional printmaker here! In case anyone is curious about why block softness matters, here’s some insight: block density/ softness is related to how crisp and sharp you can get your edges, how durable (long lasting) your block will be, what sort of equipment you can use to print your block (if it’s softer you need to hand print your blocks but if it’s sturdier you can you use a printing press), and if you choose wood as you carving medium you have an additional element of wood grain to consider. For the average person easy cut blocks work amazing and you probably won’t notice hardly any difference in the finished product! Karina you’re amazing and your blocks came out incredible!!
I'm heavy handed and I personally like the pink kind, but I haven't tried the softer white kind . The blue was too crumbly for me. Or maybe my block was old and rotted
@@boscorner Blick sells a recycled linoleum that I actually feel is a brilliant sweet spot between speedball pink and white. When I teach classes I’ve used that one in the past. Although since it’s recycled I have to imagine we will see some major variance in material character as time goes on.
This episode was so inspiring and now I want to try my hand at every medium they did! They all crushed it, and I especially loved Jacob's designs and the game he made
After Julia did that first Blender piece, I decided to try Blender, too. I thought "everyone probably says it's hard because it's time-consuming or monotonous, but I'm fine with that!" And then I tried to make a donut following BlenderGuru's tutorial and holy crap, Blender is hard because it's HARD. Things kept happening and I had no idea why. I'd try to attach one thing to another and suddenly the inside was on the outside. I'd move one thing and then something else would move and I wouldn't be able to figure out how they were attached. It was a nightmare lol Huge props to Nathan for his dino, I totally understand the prefacing of thinking you did a bad job but you did great and got a lot farther than most people would've!
The best part is trying to do, seeing it not working, trying to figure out, trying again, rechecking everything, scratching head, changing all settings. and them figure out one step was skipped and that I forgot to change some proprieties somewhere else and that is why it does not work.
I encorage you to try it again! you just have too keep throwing yourself at it till you find a perspective you can understand it from as a big time blender user I think a thing you might want to research more into is how the program thinks and wants to work. Theres a plethora of info out there and alot of helpful things from games so find new ways to research it instead of one tutorial. Oh and no shame in asking for help from people who know more lol
@weetso2568 I switched to Sketchup, actually! I was going to use Blender for 3d modeling and planning out projects anyway, and sketchup works perfectly for that lol
Every time I’ve tried blender has been an actual struggle with a demon, that program makes you work for results 😂 Maya when I briefly had access for school was nowhere near as difficult to get to just,, do what u want (tho I think all 3d programs require a little bit of fighting)
This video has been such a balm to my aching mind that I fell asleep to this on loop last night, woke up with it still playing, and watched it one more time while starting my day. I'm currently making a shirt that has been a brain worm for the last few months, and every point where I get unsure of myself or my skill, and I think back to this video and hear Karina's voice saying, "✨learning experience✨". 🖤 I love all your videos, but something about this one coming when I needed it has made this one my favorite so far. 🥺🖤✨
It's such a delight to see Jacob "3.5 hours is a long time to work on a piece" Andrews popping the fuck off on a speed draw!! Bless the new upload schedule for giving the team the space they need to get weird and just go for it
This video is an instant classic, I love seeing you all push yourselves creatively and try new things! It's super inspiring to me as someone who hasn't had as much of a creative outlet lately to see the struggles and the triumphs, and most of all, to see you all so genuinely excited and supportive of each other the whole way through.
As a big fan of dioramas and role-playing terrain building, I thoroughly endorse Julia's descent into the terrain-o-sphere. Seriously, watching stuff like Boylei Hobbytime, Bill Making Stuff, Eric's Hobby Workshop, Black Magic Craft etc... is just so calming and meditative for me.
Ooh, not sure if this is anything, but a channel that I really like is Boulder Creek Railroad. He is an Australian yiutuber diorama maker who makes realistic dioramas
Julia is calling her piece a disaster but she’s so smart and capable it turned out amazing! I would never be able to do something like that. And it was her first time, with a really ambitious idea. She’s definitely going to grow and learn. I cant wait to see more miniatures! 💕
Just hit play and I can only assume that Julia had to try glassblowing because she's just already done so many things. She's carved marble before! Actually I wouldn't be surprised if she has worked with glass before... EDIT: I am genuinely surprised Julia hadn't done woodworking before. As a fellow cat employee, I am very familiar with the supervisor interruptions.
how do you just casually make a segment of a game?? also, I wanted to thank yall for making this content for so many years I don't think I would have ever allowed myself to peruse art as a career path if I never found yall, it helps find people similar to you in the field art at times feels too serious and yall bring a middle ground that makes me feel like maybe there is a place for me and my work in the field so ty again! hopefully one day I can look back at all my story boarding and illustrations and get the full scale of how much this content helped me :)♥ YIPPIE
I've recently been taking up embroidery and i spent this whole episode thinking about what i'd say about my project if i was presenting it speed draw style, and it weirdly made me more proud of my work, so thanks Me to myself in my room: "yeah so at this point i was struggling a lot with the, ya know getting the eye shape right, n i kept going back over n it just kept getting bulkier and bulkier.." OOPS ALL BANGERS im so endlessly endeared by Nathans dino and limerick. he really chose the most difficult shape to make as his first attempt and did such a good job!! Jacob did really pop off, i cant believe how great that looks!? he'll do numbers on pixelart tumblr. Karinas was great, theres something about those lines that really scratches an itch in my brain. always love seeing her do stuff with her hands. and Julia oh my god it was a great first attempt!! 😂 i definitely think you guys should each do your own mini houses, that would be so fun.
I know she probably won't see this but I just wanted to thank you Julia! For an assignment I had to chose people who have influenced and inspired me and I got to share how much you have helped me! Seeing your art progress, your leading of finance and draw classes, and your political advocation has been a great influence on my life and I hope to carry your positive energy in both my art and my life. So thank you so much Julia and the rest of the Drawfee crew!! pls keep creating such great content and good energy in these times
On a Secret Sleepover Society stream from a few weeks ago, Jacob was talking about this speed draw and how he finally had a speed draw where he popped off. Now, seeing what he meant, I think he understated his achievement. He really went above and beyond for this one and it's truly phenomenal!
Genuinely, Nathan has made me feel so valid. Because I look up to him as an artist that can do anything, any style, always knocking it out of the park... and he struggled with Blender as much as I did. I even had the same issues with coloring. I've never felt so capable. Because if Nathan, the chameleon that can do anything in any style, struggled... then it's okay to struggle.
Im completely baffled by Julia's process by the first 5 minutes, but watching her carve the WHOLE thing drained me. The video transitions were hilarious. Still incredibly impressed with Julias contraption. Its such a fascinating idea. The cafe is so CUTE
Jacob went CRAZY in this one. I can't believe he made a whole game with portraits and dialogue and game physics and interactibility...and the little guys are all there and they look so good...and the pixels are absolutely incredible. I want to squish them. They are like little Lucky Charms marshmallows, to me. I should have known Jacob's style would translate to good pixels but instead it just seems so obvious in retrospect. And he made it all sound so easy and intuitive...maybe I could make games actually..................
For anyone looking to get started in 3D, Blockbench is really cool and fun and way easier to pick up than Blender! It was made originally for minecraft modelling I believe but its a fully featured lowpoly modelling software. Brandon James Greer has a couple good videos on it.
For what its worth as someone who has used both, I think Blender is cooler to learn. You can accomplish all the basics blockbench will allow pretty quickly and then you have a good foundation to learn just about anything involving 3d graphics! Blender really is super doable as long as you have some dedication and a spare weekend to learn the basics
@@EclecticEggyYeah Blender can be used for everything Blockbench can but I think it can still helpful to have that trimmed back experience for beginners. Much like how Aseprite is useful to have despite Photoshop being capable of pixel art as well. It’s just a more focused application built for quick modelling vs trying to do absolutely everything like Blender does. It also avoids the problem Nathan ran into which is why I mentioned it: Sculpting 3D meshes is really complicated, especially when you plan on texturing and lighting them, without a strong foundation in how to structure 3D objects with fewer polygons.
I'm so glad to see Jacob doing Pixelart! I sort of thought it was something that wouldn't be done on Drawfee because it's such a departure from their normal stuff, but I guess a different media challenge was the perfect prompt for it. I hope we can see more Jacob sprites some time!
And in Julia’s honor, Nathan worked really hard on a part and then covered it up XD
Is this when we find out the tutorial he was following was julia's and the covering it up was in the tutorial. lol
It's a crucial part of the art process
Its the first step to delete your art
I didn't even think of that, you're so right!
Also in Julia’s honor, Jacob made a background too lmao
The arms on Nathan's dinosaur is "my leg fell asleep" mixed with "oww my funny bone" visualized perfectly
Man, they must have been kinda relieved to go extinct, having arms made of "ow my funny bone"
"OH GOD! THEY'RE WAKING UP!" BZZZzzzzzzztttttxzzzzzzzttttt weakness...
Omg that’s a perfect description lol
When I'm falling asleep and a noise wakes me up and makes that vague pattern that plays over your closed eyes to freak out for an instant, it kind of looks like that.

I knew the new schedule would allow for more ambitious videos, but honestly, I think this just became my new favorite drawfee episode
AYO?? IM HALF WAY THROUGH AND HAVE ALREADY BEEN BLOWN AWAY AND NOW UR SAYING THERES AN ANIMATRONIC COMING UP???
Might be mine too, they put so much of their time, love and talent into it, this episode is truly so cool !!!
Don't forget the "Julia, is this clay?" episode (Mario movie)
To: Karina, is this A GATEWAY TO HELL!?
ok as someone who took a university course on using blender, nathan's dinosaur surprised me, for multiple reasons, mostly because when I first started the course, they basically said two things.
It's almost as if colleges are very strangely limited in perspective and insist that their way to teach is the only way to teach.
It's a lot easier to UV texture if you're doing low poly work
I genuinely love that you guys weren't ashamed to show how you struggled to work with these new media. It's honest and shows people that you do mess up and maybe make something you don't like or that doesn't turn out how you want your first time doing something.
Nathan.... Is that... BLENDER!?!?
It's a dinosaur. :)
can we all just take a moment to appreciate how brave nathan is for using blender 😌
It's impossible for me to read that and not have Karina's voice in my head 😂
That's what I was going to say haha I'm glad someone did

I agree with Jacob…its a lot sometimes
This is instantly one of my favourite episodes. Like I definitely want you all not to overdo it, and to have a good work-life balance, but when you go high-concept high-effort like this, it is *such* a treat. All four of these projects were an utter joy to watch. Almost all of them are media I have pipe dreams of properly learning, and I am in danger of being inspired to actually try getting back into one or more of them.
Jacob paid Julia the greatest tribute, making a while ass scene when he didn't need to. And on top of it all it's Jancy's office. That's love.
When you put it that way, that’s heart melting
When I saw just how much Jacob did this episode I was like...He truly was meant for Julia. Wow.
The fact that Jacob learned Godot just for a Drawfee video and here I am still working on the art for my game after a year, having barely touched Godot at all... I am shook, upset, offended, and now surprisingly much more inspired to start making this thing. Thanks Jacob.
Best of luck!!!!
Woot woot! You can do this!
Plz give us updates!
lol same I'm still in the early days of developing my game after nearly two years and can't imagine how Jacob managed to do all that, but it's also really inspirational. Best of luck to you!
That was my exact experience!! Like wow, he did all of that in 11 hours? Maybe I could do that too . . .
Found the beginner indie dev support group in the comments, let's all remind ourselves that gamedev is hard and takes an incredibly long time 😅

Yes!!! Everyone made cool stuff this episode, but Jacob’s was sooo good! Imagine if there was a drawtectives game you could buy…
I hope he is so inspired that he makes this into an actual game ❤
As a printmaker, you did super good with your first try, Karina! The softer the lino / rubber the easier it is to just tear or accidentally cut. Easier on the hand and to cut, but you don't get as many prints and it might break ;-; So don't feel bad for your tiny tiger having issues because he looks super cute and literally everyone who does block printing has made the same mistake (I have glued bits back to my block for quick fix a TON lmao). You all did fantastic!!
I've been so excited for the Jacob pop-off, but boy was I not ready for him to MAKE A FREAKING GAME?! I'm so proud of him, good job Jacob!
Right? Every single time he said "And then, I..." I just got more excited. That was. So charming.

This video is a proof of concept for a show I'd love to see the Drawfee gang do that I call Drawfee Multimedia, where a guest artist comes in and teaches the gang how to use a medium they've never used before and they have to complete little challenges with it

BOOSTING COMMENT

This would go so hard as a Dropout original.
Craftfee
6:00 Karina's overlooked, very sincere, line of "Not because I think that in general." Is so endearing and needs attention
I know this isn't about the art, but the sibling reveal (my first time anyway) was fun too!
i love this thoughtful comment! big agree!!!
100% this!!! this video was possibly my favourite of theirs i’ve seen!!
I know the algorithm is a fickle beast but I truly hope this video does well because a tremendous amount of work clearly went into it
Absolutely agree with all of this. It’s so great to go from the announcement that they’re going to be doing fewer videos so they can do videos that interest them more to this. They all seemed like they were really engaged and creatively fulfilled and it was very inspiring and also fun to watch 😊
I love Jacob whenever Julia let's the hyper fixation win of "REMINDER THIS WAS CHOSEN AND VOLUNTARY, COULDVE DONE ANYTHING ELSE" Iits so precious
Truly the most Married Couple
I literally cannot express how many times I was like hyper excitedly exclaiming “no WAYYY” during this video it’s truly incredible (Jacob lowkey should develop an RPG it’s such a good combo of his creative skills and interests)
I would love to see the 3 minute timelapse of Nathan smoking a cigarette and throwing away pieces of paper from his typewriter as he composes poetry
i'm so charmed by the pictures of julia carving wooden parts on her kitchen table while watching football. it's a delightfully dadlike moment, especially with her brother also involved in creating something for a long time that in the end may not even work good but they sure did it together.
It really felt like my family and I every time I took a diorama project at school way too far and the whole family ended up getting involved. Good times. (for me! my parents may have a slightly different view on the matter, considering the number of grey hairs I added to their head through school projects alone...)
Julia has an incredible dad energy. Just remember her jokes and puns. Certified dad humour
@@winddancer613 Jacob gives wine aunt energy honestly
As someone going to art school with my major being printmaking… watching one of my favorite artists create a block print makes me smile so much…
The dichotomy between Nathan's "I really struggled on this" and Jacob's "I popped off" is great.
I LOVE THE PINK FLOYD MEDDLE PFP 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ok I seriously hope Jacob’s pixel art drawtectives get used for an actual little game at some point, they’re so adorable!

I'd give anything to see Drawfee doing weird performance art. Nathan standing around painted like one of those human statues. Julia flopping on the ground in a fish costume.

Good stuff. Julia doing architectural engineering, Nathan doing sculpting, Jacob making video games and Karina starting a revolution. That's art baby.
Hell yeah to that !
Shoutout to Nathan for getting this prompt and deciding to take on one of the most complex art mediums possible. Love this attack Dino and his glitch arms so much 🦖
This is such an ambitious one, and I just want to point out what achievement each of you guys made:
- Nathan went 3D, something I haven't seen since the 3D reference model video.
- Jacob made a game. An entire thing, using an actual engine.
- Karina used woodworking. I don't think I've seen woodworking from Karina before.
- Julia, being JULIA, made an entire diorama from scratch.
All of you, good work on this one, seriously.
Note: Karina used a soft linoleum block, not wood. It's a very similar process though! c: It's super cool to see her do printmaking in any case
This episode floored me. I realized how much ive been putting off my creative interests but seeing the drawfee crew explore new creative expressions broke the dam for me and actually got me making art again. Thank you drawfee pals!

As an engineer, Julia has some of the biggest engineering energy I've seen, including actual coworkers and old classmates of mine. So cool to see

Just busting out idle animations and multiple profiles and walk cycles like it's no issue, coding in multiple systems, writing dialogue for his friends' characters... a pop off moment for sure
if y'all keep getting drawfee to do things like this, eventually julia will have to learn blacksmithing
This is exactly the kind of madness I was hoping for when you folks said you were gonna do fewer but more involved videos. SO FUN.
At the beginning I was like “There is no way Julia can out do herself again” and then she straight up manufactures a mechanism and does woodwork.

Professional printmaker here! In case anyone is curious about why block softness matters, here’s some insight:
block density/ softness is related to how crisp and sharp you can get your edges, how durable (long lasting) your block will be, what sort of equipment you can use to print your block (if it’s softer you need to hand print your blocks but if it’s sturdier you can you use a printing press), and if you choose wood as you carving medium you have an additional element of wood grain to consider. For the average person easy cut blocks work amazing and you probably won’t notice hardly any difference in the finished product!
Karina you’re amazing and your blocks came out incredible!!
Was literally sitting here brain dead wondering "why do hard when can do soft and easier on hands."
Thank you for your wisdom!
thank you for the info! so cool to learn about something i probably wouldn't have otherwise :D
I'm heavy handed and I personally like the pink kind, but I haven't tried the softer white kind . The blue was too crumbly for me. Or maybe my block was old and rotted

After Julia did that first Blender piece, I decided to try Blender, too.
I thought "everyone probably says it's hard because it's time-consuming or monotonous, but I'm fine with that!"
And then I tried to make a donut following BlenderGuru's tutorial and holy crap, Blender is hard because it's HARD.
Things kept happening and I had no idea why. I'd try to attach one thing to another and suddenly the inside was on the outside. I'd move one thing and then something else would move and I wouldn't be able to figure out how they were attached. It was a nightmare lol
Huge props to Nathan for his dino, I totally understand the prefacing of thinking you did a bad job but you did great and got a lot farther than most people would've!
From my totally uneducated perspective, I feel like doing blender is like gazing into a crystal ball hoping for answers but only seeing ill omens
I would love to see that
nathan is officially my favorite character. bringing a poem for backup is the funniest shit ever.
how do you just casually make a segment of a game?? also, I wanted to thank yall for making this content for so many years I don't think I would have ever allowed myself to peruse art as a career path if I never found yall, it helps find people similar to you in the field art at times feels too serious and yall bring a middle ground that makes me feel like maybe there is a place for me and my work in the field so ty again! hopefully one day I can look back at all my story boarding and illustrations and get the full scale of how much this content helped me :)♥ YIPPIE
i have never been so excited for an episode
JACOB I'M OBSESSED
An instant classic ❤
I've recently been taking up embroidery and i spent this whole episode thinking about what i'd say about my project if i was presenting it speed draw style, and it weirdly made me more proud of my work, so thanks
Me to myself in my room: "yeah so at this point i was struggling a lot with the, ya know getting the eye shape right, n i kept going back over n it just kept getting bulkier and bulkier.."
Nathan tulpa in my mind: "it's cuteeee, i like it"
Karina tulpa: "you did a great. job."
Julia tulpa: "hey, ya know what, you tried something new, n you're making it work, n you're doing such a good jawwwwwbbb at it"
Jacob tulpa: "yeah this is sick"
for real ever since I started watching drawfee I'm trying to be nicer to myself and my art, I'm like well I messed that up but I tried my best! I'm learning and I'm having fun!
Glad I'm not the only one with the full cast of drawfee living in my head giving me advice 😂
not the drawfee tulpas
This comment made me go on SUCH a research rabbit-hole, dang
There are several drawfee videos that make it into my rewatch rotation and this one is my latest addition!! You all did so well, I loved seeing you all do something new and creative!!
Nathan’s resigned “sure”s throughout Julia’s entire section really adds to the experience 😂😂
I don't know what i was expecting when he said he popped off, but jacob pulling up with a WALKING SEQUENCE, IN MULTIPLE DIRECTIONS for the little intern was NOT it
Update: HE USED GODOT??? I USE GODOT FOR UNI WORK SDKJNSKVJ. this is so cool my little game dev heart is so happy rn :DDDD
Edit 2: JACOBBBBBBBBBB (hes making multiple portraits for dialog rn,,,,) (also accidentally enabling physics on something is such a mood jsjsjsj)
--The dialog portraits look amazing in use, it looks like an actual game i'd play :DD
Final comment: jacob the game is fucking adorable and so well excecuted!!! you should be so, so proud of it. ^^
I couldn't stop smiling after seeing Jacob using Godot! That was just amazing, never expected to see Godot in a drawfee video!
What is up with Godot that you can accidentally put physics on something? As a programmer that sounds insane. :D
this has to be one of my favorite drawfee episodes of all time! so proud of everyone!
OOPS ALL BANGERS im so endlessly endeared by Nathans dino and limerick. he really chose the most difficult shape to make as his first attempt and did such a good job!!
JACOB!!!!!!!!! broster casually made a whole video game scene........... so cool man what the hell
I LOVE Jacobs pop-off moment!!! Making an actually functional game is so freaking impressive
Can this please please please become a series? This was amazing to watch, could be my favourite videos of yours ever, just wow 🥰
Jesus Christ... JULIA.
Incredible intel, I can’t wait to try this
For what its worth as someone who has used both, I think Blender is cooler to learn.
Also blockbench has a web app so you don't even need to install it to try it out! :o
38:16 nathan: you're gonna carve this whole thing out of wood?
julia: yeah
nathan: disappointed sigh
The first Drawfee episode I ever watched was Julia using Blender. This episode makes me happy.
I'm so glad to see Jacob doing Pixelart! I sort of thought it was something that wouldn't be done on Drawfee because it's such a departure from their normal stuff, but I guess a different media challenge was the perfect prompt for it. I hope we can see more Jacob sprites some time!
