For some drawing with a sketch becomes a crutch. Personally my illustrations improved x100 when I 1) practiced regularly every day 2) draw only in black ink ballpoint pen I still use other tools and do my color mostly in digital but focusing on one medium and one tool made it easier to get in my drawing hours every day. Inprovement was slow but gradual and CONSISTENT. Amazing.
