    Fun fact: back when I was super interested in building homemade go karts, I watched this very video first. That all happened around the time this video came out - 6 years ago. 6 years ago, I didn’t know anything about anything involving go karts and their parts (Jeez, I’m going to be a rapper someday- Karts? Parts? Get it?), so I was pretty impressed with what you had in your shop. Looking at it from my current age’s perspective, it’s not as extravagant but it’s still pretty cool. I mean, who just has a welder casually chilling in the corner of a generic garage?

    Hey Colin, I think your way of thinking is infecting my mind. As I was watching this, I started thinking of ways to modify this design to turn it into a tank-treaded snow-kart. If I ever manage to build such a thing, I'll totally send you pictures. Heck, I'll even try making a design sketch to send to you so you could try it if you wanted.

    Love the video Colin, it's just when I saw the little metal shavings all over your carpet, it reminded me of a lifehack - put a magnet inside an inverted Ziploc bag, and set it near where you'd think metal shavings would fall. After you're all done, revert the Ziploc bag to its normal state, and you'll have all your pesky metal shavings in a bag that you can seal and throw out.

    • @2small4theMall
      @2small4theMall 8 лет назад

      BrokenLifeCycle I hate it when diy channels only give the measurements in inches. There's so much converting and adjusting to do

    • @fairguinevere666
      @fairguinevere666 8 лет назад +3

      Metric is good for science, as many of the equations are based around it, but Imperial is better for estimates, and for projects it doesn't matter. For instance, you wouldn't say "that guy is about 170 centimeters tall" nor would you say "they're about 2 meters." One is too specific, the other too precise. However, saying "that guy is about 5.5 feet" is easier. And the suchlike.

      The bigger issue is at least here in the US you can buy an adequate welder for less than $300 (GBP 200) new, less if ya grab one used. At the rate he is going through hardware, you could have saved half the cost of the welder by not having to buy so many nuts and bolts.

    • @gotmunchiez
      @gotmunchiez 8 лет назад

      Colin Richardson I agree it can be a pain finding materials locally and it can get expensive buying online when you take postage into account. Search for your nearest steel stockholders and give them a call, ask if they have an offcuts section or scrap pile you can look through. My local place has racks of "offcuts" up to about 3m long and the 50x50 box section is about 3 or 4 quid a metre. There's a scrap pile with small offcuts of plate and flat bar that they sell by the kilo for pocket change. I've never tried any but apparently a lot of fabrication places usually have a decent scrap pile you can buy from.

    • @anzaca1
      @anzaca1 4 года назад +12

      This is something where you can very easily choose your own measurements. After all, you might need more of less legroom than Colin. And because there's no welding, if something ends up being too long/short, you can simply shorten it/make a new part and bolt it in.

      @@zackskinner2666 yeah you can buy a cheap welder for under £100. I'm sure it's shit but it's get the job done. He said the parts would cost £600 brand new. Which I'm dubious about, but that only be another £100 on top of price if true. And you would probably use it more than once. He didn't factor in the cost of all the metal work. I'd bet atleast another £200 on top, then bolts doohickies bits and bobs. Call it a grand realistically. That bit of ply wood for the bottom alone would be over £100 I know recently cos I bought a piece recently half that size to make a lid for an aquarium. Cost £50

      Air cooled engine should be fine even when there is driver+seat front of it, thought if your going to make some covers for the car, then i suggest building some air intakes just in case.
      Side mounted engine brings so many troubles with weight distribution that little air cooling is last things in your mind, specially in your first drive with it.

    • @ian-c.01
      @ian-c.01 8 лет назад +1

      A lot of air will be sucked underneath the cart and pass under the seat, this will get to the engine just fine, the air behind the seat is not going to be sitting still, there will be a fair bit of air movement. It wouldn't overheat even at low speeds or standing still, as long as it's not revving flat out for long periods it shouldn't get too hot anyway.

    Hey Colin really enjoy your videos when you put them up, I am disabled myself in a wheelchair, In your other video where you build the fastest mobility scooter I own the exact same 1, But always wanted to switch t to gas and lift it so a set of ATV tires would fit on it, I am really in need of help because I live way up in Northern Canada where we get a lot of snow, And my electric wheelchair I use now is top of the line but garbage really for me where I live because soon as we start getting snow my chair does not move then I am bed ridden for 6 months, I been trying every where for some 1 to help me design what parts I need and where I can get them, Not sure if you ever seen a wheelchair on RUclips that is called The Tank chair, thing is awesome I tried 1 out and it will go through mud no problem when ATV,s are getting stuck and it works great in snow as well,Now seeing this video you are doing looks like maybe it could be turned into something I can use, The frame looks similar that you are building to the 4 wheel drive chair they sell for over $20,000, That is insane, Was wondering if there were a way for me to contact you or you me, and talk about a build what can give me some quality of life, be different if i were in my 60,s or 70,s but I am only 40 and very active, Would be in dedted to you if you could design a 4 wheel drive chair something like you are building in this video,Could you please get back to me and see how we can get in contact with each other and you being so incredible with imagination and building things, I beleive you could build something aw some My apologies I should of got a few pics from the internet showing you the 4 wheel drive mobility scooters or off road scooters-, Thank you for your time and hope to be able to hear back from you,
    Bear.,

      Aztezq he's not driving it yet don't need a safety tie when you're just cutting things

      He is wearing a tie at the beginning of the video... and I can understand not wanting to wear a tie while working with an angle grinder.

      The safety tie is a power tool and not a basic tool
