  • Link for draining the overflow tank, "The easy way" • Coolant tank drain 109...
    After the 1st track day with my 1098 in 07 at Miller Motorsport Park, I know there had to be a better way to add coolant than taking the headlights, front fairing, and air box snorkel tub off. Just to get the radiator cap off? So I worked out a cool way to push the coolant up through the water pump drain hole.

    Changed the (original 😱) coolant on my '15 MTS... the pressure sprayer that I bought would not fit in the water pump drain. So I used the sprayer as is, to fill the cooling system at the Rad. The wand nozzle is angled and fit nicely into the Rad fill neck. Job done... 🙂👍

    You sir are a star! Saved me loads of time. SOOOO EASY!!!! My sprayer, didn't have an 'o' ring so I wrapped sprayer end with plumbers ptfe tape, wedged it in, pumped it up - sorted. Thanks for posting 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 🇬🇧

    Why not just leave the coolant drained for the winter? Also which brand of Dzus fasteners work on the side of the nose?

    • @stimacsays
      @stimacsays  9 лет назад

      Hi +squigi77, the summer coolant is water. A closer look at the lower radiator will show about 4 inches of tubes and fins below the lowest drain point. It would remain full of water after the rest of the system drained, even if the lower hose is removed. Its also good, (I have been led to believe) the anti-freeze prevents corrosion and saves the O-rings and seals from cracking when allowed to dry?I am sorry, I do not remember what brand or where I got the Dzus fasteners. That was 7 years ago. I do know they are the same on all of the bike, I just popped the D-rings off the ones on the sides because they contacted the upper fairing when twisting closed.Thanks for the questions. I have to go do this after I watch the GP today. The temp outside have been below freezing and I have been procrastinating.

      Great thanks for the vid! Yes it is quite a pain in the ass the "normal" way
      Just wanted to point out that the lower rad is actually an oil cooler so no coolant at all goes in there. Just oil ;)

    • @toonj64
      @toonj64 8 лет назад +1

      AH I think I misunderstood! You meant the lower part of the rad and not the bottom radiator!
      Scratch that ;)

    • @Ducati_Dude
      @Ducati_Dude 5 лет назад

      @@stimacsays ---> Do you have any idea as to why the Rad doesn't have a drain plug as well? Would make it much easier to remove the bottom portion of coolant.

    Your track day org lets you run glycol based coolant? You don't use Water Wetter or Engine Ice?

    • @stimacsays
      @stimacsays  8 лет назад

      +DLITINTHEHOUSE Thanks for the question. We can use WW, but that's not an antifreeze. We had days last year at -30F.

    hey @stimacsays, why not install the radiator cap before removing your filler hose from the water pump? should reduce the amount of fluid leaking out much like the lower unit on a boat motor, also should reduce air from flowing back into the system (not sure itll work exactly like that, but its my $0.02) Also, does your bike have an overflow reservoir? I have a 959 and I wanna swap the coolant as well and am wondering if it'll be exactly like this video, or slightly different.

    • @stimacsays
      @stimacsays  8 лет назад

      Hi Ryan. I think I rode a 959 once, but only remember that I like the bike very much.. The overflow on the 1098 is between the cylinders. That video can be found in my motorbike playlist right here. ruclips.net/video/t_hXAgtun6M/видео.html

    By pumping up from the bottom end, there would be very few air pockets?

    • @stimacsays
      @stimacsays  5 лет назад +1

      Ducati Dude just like filling the brakes with fluid. Fill from the top traps air, then you have to try and bleed them. Small things.

      ***** your welcome bud,I got here because i have a 1000rr and am wanting to get into ducati's always loved them but i'm 6'3 and not sure if they'll fit me good.But anyways saw that you were into tomato's as well.So wanted to get your take on that.Gardening and what not.And how you feel owning a ducati your pro's and con's.Thanks

    • @stimacsays
      @stimacsays  10 лет назад

      Sure. I am 6ft, 34" inseam, and until this year was 200 lbs. I had a 998 and loved it. If I was one inch taller, the bike would have been to small. The 999 is the most roomy of all the Ducks, and the long stretch to the bars for some on tall like you would be no problem. My 1098 fits me the best. I run stock rearsets with after market pages and stock clip-ons. The problem with the 1098 that was not with the other Superbikes is it did not come with an adjustable triple clamp. Stock is 36mm when 30 is preferable for racing. $800 an Motowheels.com will have it sorted.
      I race the twins class with AHRMA, and my last I4 was a 1988 Honda 1000 Hurricane, so no help there. I also had a RC-51 that fit bigger than the 998, and set a lot like the 1098. My street bike right now is a Buell 1125R, and it feels like a sofa after getting off the 1098. Still, a nice street bike.(but slow)
      I have not ridden a 1199 yet. My friends that race them love them.
      Cant help with tomato's now, its already been under -30f and I ate the last of them except a few gallons in freezer bags.

    Hey mate, awesome tip.. just a quick question when you ran the bike for 45 seconds did you put the radiator cap back on or leave it loose?? Cheers

    • @stimacsays
      @stimacsays  6 лет назад

      lloyd widdowson I didn’t. It shouldn’t matter for that short of time, and I didn’t want it on so it couldn’t crate vacuum not allowing remaining coolant to drain.
      Thank you for watching and the questions

    Hi Sir.
    I know it a long time since this video was uploaded, but I was hoping that you would share what stand you are using there... It looks quite handy and solid
    In advance thanks for you help.

      @stimacsays  9 лет назад

      Sigmann85 Howdy Sigmann. www.motosport.com/powerstands-racing-mario-singlesided-rear-stand?mmy=ducati;1098;2007&mmy_source=pdpThe rear stand is a Power Stand. It is very nice, with the removable handle and braking down in to such a small package for travel. I like it better than the much more sturdy and heavy Pit Bull or Ducati stands. I have had all three, and my wife still uses Pit Bull for her Speed Trip, but I always us the Power Stand on my race bike. 7 years now, and sill good.

      Because you would then have to remove about 4 more screws. On a street bike you need to remove mirrors and undo the turn signal wires also. Not seeing the big benefit here but it’s another way to skin the cat. I guess the Airbox intake is there also so 3-4 screws.
