Great real world service video, Hank! The Vactrac is a really nice tool except for the unconscionably high price. Being a former, retired business owner, I get it regarding costs to produce, patent, and market such a tool but heck, such is very hard to swallow. Know what I mean?
Hank grab a piece of clear rubber hose to fit over the funnel and long enough to get you up over the loader frame. Those Deutz fill ports are tricky to get to. I think we got a 2 ft hose for dad’s tractor.
I felt bad for you when I saw all that oil leaking out. One thing for sure you definitely showed me how well the vactrac works. I will be ordering one and I will be sure it’s fully charged before I do my 50 hour service. Great video Hank. Thanks
I purchased one recently, after watching this video. I used it on a Kubota L6060 HSTC to change both Hydraulic filters, which are underneath the tractor very similar to TYM's design. The VacTrac worked great!! (not sure if it mattered, but I only did one filter at a time vs both - figuring it would ensure a stronger vacuum). I did ensure it was fully charged before using, again thanks to Hank. Thanks very much Hank for the video and recommending the VacTrac.
Getting ready to do the 50 hour on my TYM574 that I purchased on June 20th 2024 from Zimmerman Equipment in New Castle VA. I am retired from 45 years of Industrial Maintenance and Engineering. I am my own service center unless it's warranty repair. I chose the 574 for the simplicity and ability to do my own service and repair.
You are not kidding. I recently did mine on a 2515h and it was ~$250 for the oils and filters. That is using cheaper tractor supply and napa oils as well. That oil bath was crazy! If you used the bathtub I bet that needs a good cleaning too. 😅
After seeing you taking a oil bath I see why people laugh when things like that happen to me, thanks you for leaving it in your video it just proves dumb things happen to all of us.
Man, I feel really bad that the batteries died in that little vacuum and you got lubed 😂. Thanks for teaching us how to sorta change our fluids. Seriously though, thanks for the video and take care..
That Vactrac worked great, not only is it a good idea to charge it before using it, but break the filters loose first so you only have to spin them off after you turn the Vac on instead of spending all that time trying to get filter wrenches on and breaking loose.
All my girls and boys change their own oil and filter now and had to learn how to change tires before they could drive . Best thing to teach all kids . Joel Reppe Clear Lake SD 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
🚜🔧🔧 Hank, you don't need another funnel. Take your funnel with you to the parts store and get about 24 inches of tubing that fits the end of your funnel. Itsaved a lot of aggravation changing engine oil and fluids.
It was $350 for mine when I took my Boomer 50 in after 2 months. I hauled it in myself 120 miles to the dealer. I have pretty bad arthritis in my shoulders and I have heard rumors about how hard it is to get factory filters off. 3 years later and I just crossed the 400 hour mark and have done my own service since then.
As a fellow combat veteran, we knew/know the time to be serious in life, but upon separation or retirement, even things that we considered maddening we just laugh about. Another great video, Hank. God bless, sir! ! 🇺🇲
Well, I always clean around the filters before removing them so no dirt will get in while using my small work area vacuum. I bought a piece of heater hose that fits the fill port exactly then taped it to the vacuum hose so i don't need two people as they say in their ad to change a filter. What you do need is two people to get the hydraulic filter off if it's the original put on by the factory. I don't know why they put it on so tight. I have an LS MT342 HC with their SHST transmission.
Thanks for not editing that out. Haven't had that hard of a belly laugh in a while. Over dubbing yakety sax when you were trying to get the filter back on would have made it even better.
Did you forget to drain the oil out of the center section of the front differential? It may have a drain plug. Don't you have to grease it, check belt tension, and check the coolant at 50 hrs, too? Thanks for the video, and God bless you!
You need to check all that stuff IAW the manual. This wasn't a how to video, rather how I video. I grease and check all that stuff more frequently than the books say.👍
@@hhamilton1970 I wasn't giving you a hard time. I appreciate you all and your videos. Thank you! Nothing but love coming to you from this house in Maine. I'm just wondering if there is one on your tractor. The Kubota M7040 I've worked on didn't have one but I think the Cub Cadet 8454SS that's a repainted Kioti DK45 which is South Korean did have one. How often do you grease your tractor? I just saw on the Kubota manual it says every 100 hrs but the loader is every 10 hrs. 100 hrs seems like a long time. Thanks again for all you do and God bless you all!
I use my ol underwear for oil changes. Then place oil filter on top of fence post to drain. Use to pour burnt oil on roads until they said stop but they blacktop road and have a sign fresh oil at beginning. Hank do you have a full time job ? You almost want me go a buy a new tractor. Thanks
If your gonna own a tractor I highly recommend learning how to do these sorta things your self and it is most satisfying after your done 👍 Plus you Beat the Man by not paying your dealer to do it for ya 😃 Watch lots of videos and just start with your oil change 1st to build your confidence and someday you’ll be doing your own How To DIY RUclips Videos for the next guy to learn from 🤣
Hey, great video. So you went ahead and changed the hydraulic filters but not the hydraulic fluid ? is that correct ? any reason for that ? and would you do the same for a subcompact tractor ? I appreciate the video, trying to learn all I can and you definitely help !! Thanks !!!
Hank, im the same way. If you have a tym tractor and tym has there own branded oil, regardless of who makes it, I'd stick with it. Theres better oils out there for sure but tym oil is recommended for tym tractors so why not! Have a good one!
Well that was fun :-] good video... thanks Hank... hey Hank im looking into buy another tractor; like TYM because they run mechanical fuel system... no computer-controlled system. However, i have been reading a lot of reviews and i have seen a pattern of people complaining about availability of parts from TYM when tractor needs fixed... can you comment on this problem???
It's definitely something to think about when making a decision like that. However, my tractor hasn't had to have any parts yet. 438 trouble free hours. So I wouldn't know. I would tell you that every tractor brand out there, you hear the exact same thing from their owners. So take what you see/hear with a grain of salt. Make the decision that is best for you 👍
Note to the wise: battery operated devices seldom come with more than 50% charge. CHARGE BEFORE USE!!!!! BTW, Hank, this is not a hateful swipe at you. It's just a reminder. 😁
If you loosen them the fluid would spill. The issue with these is, they were brand new and new filters on every tractor are notorious for being super tight. The filters won't be that tight next change. 👍
I'm at 40hrs on the T474. I want to do it myself, but I started thinking about the warranty. Do you know if it affects the warranty not having the dealer do it?
I asked my dealer that same questions when I got my T25, I was told I need to keep all of the receipts for everything I purchase, make sure I use the proper viscosity oils and I would be fine warranty wise if something were to occur. I am also using a log book to track any maintenance I do just to have that record as well.

Should have drained center plug on front axle also you will have metal from the front diff in oil that needs to drain out

Put hose on your funnel also can you raise your front end loader up and lock it while your doing the engine oil ?

I just got a TYM t474h last week from SR1 the biggest tym dealer in the US
Run it at my sawmill and firewood operation already have 13hrs on it .
They are a great dealership
We got ours at sr1 in orono, great dealership
I bought a tym 5835r the first of April, I had 50 hours in 3 weeks. I am at 200 hours now
I used my wet dry vac to do the same thing as your vac track. If the power would have went off I would have had the same oil bath.

Shop vac does the same thing. 120 volts, never run out of power.
Shop vacs are cumbersome. I don't have convenient access to power sometimes. This worked great

I understand! I wish you would have made the comment BEFORE I filmed LOL :)
just a thought, is the vac powerfull enough to do both filters at once? With 2 openings it may lose too much vacume to hold all the fluid back.
I feel like it would probably be strong enough if both filters were off
Yeah. But better safe than sorry. Best to loosen both filters before firing up that Vac Trac.
If you loosen them the fluid would spill. The issue with these is, they were brand new and new filters on every tractor are notorious for being super tight. The filters won't be that tight next change. 👍
