Thanks Matti! Urrrr -- I want a G9!!! I love my G85, and I would keep it as a backup camera, but the G9 just adds so much (and of course I can keep using all of my lenses/adapted lenses). Oh -- slightly off-topic -- I love watching "Nordic Noir" TV -- Scandinavian detective, murder-mystery, police dramas. Currently watching the latest season/series of the Finnish "Bordertown" -- excellent! I have noticed that a lot of names in Finnish have doubled letters -- not just "Matti." Anyway -- a beautiful country that you live in -- I hope that you can get back out soon and get more photos (and video)! Stay safe!!!
Thanks! I don't watch a lot of TV, but I know the series you are talking about. I had no idea you can see it in the USA. I can go out, we never has a lockdown over here and I there will be videos showing a bit summer in Helsinki.
@@mattisulanto -- Yes -- Bordertown has been on Netflix -- the latest season/series was just released here a week or two ago. I have an add-on channel on my Amazon Prime/Firestick which also has lots of European TV, so I have access to the many versions of Wallander and other Danish/Norwegian/Swedish/Finnish crime/detective shows -- and like all of the best crime/detective shows, it's not really about the crimes, it's about the personal lives/drama of the police/detectives. Yes -- please show us some camera settings/techniques "in the wild" -- and it should be a pretty spectacular spring there also. Thanks!
I'd love to, but I have no GX9. If I ever get one somehow, I'll make the best settings. Many of the setting I have in my other videos in the Lumix Settings playlist work for the GX9.
... And I thought I knew my G9! Very useful overview. I had no idea what “IS locking” was about. Tip #6 is very intriguing. Perhaps you could do an entire video on this topic.
An amazing feature that I've used to film at at shutter speeds as low as 1/8 sec handheld, or 1/2 sec. tripod in low light static situations. Accessing very low video SS's in all GH bodies since GH3, and G9 is done by selecting M exposure mode with AF lever in Man. position. I found this by serendipity years ago, and have never seen it documented. 1/2 sec. gives you 4EV exposure boost. Interesting light trails, and ghostly walking subjects!
I use the back dial for exposure compensation because it's a function I use more often than changing ISO. Also, I really need two dials to properly manage ISO, with the rear dial to adjust the value and the front to toggle auto ISO on or off. Under the raw shooting philosophy, why would you keep custom aspect ratio settings in the Qmenu?
That's the beauty of customizability, you can set your camera the way you want. RUclips cover picture is 16:9 and I shoot a lot of those😀 It's easier to compose, if I can see the correct framing in the camera. That's why I have it in the Q menu.
Your initial 5 best settings, would those be more in line for photography? While I have nothing against learning about video capabilities, this camera was touted as the photographers go to camera thus, I try to set up accordingly. So this 2.0 new settings is strictly for video and your 1.0 photography or is it a catch all? Thank you sir...always enjoy the many easter eggs of information you provide!
I have used for many, many years a camera where the only "settings" were shutter speed and aperture. Now exploring all the fancy settings feels almost unreal.
Yes -- I grew up with a Nikon F -- all manual, and I have a (way too large) collection of vintage film cameras, so I can deal with light meters, aperture priority, and even the autofocus of my Nikon F100 -- but with my Lumix G85 I find that I don't have the time or concentration to "mess" with so many of those settings when I am out hiking and taking pictures. I will bracket exposure, depth-of-field and the like, but all under my control. Maybe I'm just too old (57) to handle all of these fancy features!!! But ultimately, if I can get the shot that I want, I am happy!
Hello, I have bought a G9 thanks to you! You mentioned that you use Natural profile for both stills and video, may I know the contrast and saturation you have input?
I'm using the CNED for video and I have the contrast at -5, sharpness -2 and saturation -3. Sometimes I also use the V-Log L for video, but then I also shoot 10 bit.
@@arifkizilay I would not use these for stills, I would shoot RAW. If you want to shoot jpeg, try which Photo Style looks best to you. CNED and V-Log are more for video.
Excellent content as usual. I also like the natural light a lot in this one which is the first video of yours that I saw outside the studio light. Do you have a video on the recommended settings for the LX100M2? Would like to watch it.
Matti; you had mentioned the expanded capabilities of the G9 for making videos as a result of the 2.0 firmware update. Are the Custom Modes settings only intended for saving settings for making photos or can the Custom Modes be used for special settings you use when making videos? I understand that with the EM1 Mark III the Custom Settings can only be used for photos.
hi , I purchased G9, just a technical question, while in manual mode, you can not change the aperture from the camera, you only set the aperture from the lens. is that correct? thank you.
You won't believe this, after almost 3 years of original launch, the G9 was launched in India yesterday (May 30, 2020)...wanted to know if it still makes sense to buy in 2020. What interests me is compactness and cost of micro 4/3 system. I am interested in wildlife and bird photography. Please advise.
Wow, that was an interesting piece of information. The G9 still is one of the best MFT cameras and a very good value right now, at least in most countries. I'd be happy to take my G9 to pretty much any situation and I'm sure I'd come back with pictures I like. In my opinion it's a great camera, but I'm always a bit careful, when I recommend a camera to someone else, because we all have our own personal style to shoot and use our cameras. However, if you like the MFT system, I think the G9 is one of the best cameras you can buy.
@@mattisulanto Without doubt, I feel it is one of the best all around camera for stills in the market. Only concern is the future of the 4/3 system (which is very hard to judge) and the fact that the camera is almost 3 year old, thinking if there is a replacement expected soon..like G9s. I don't upgrade my gear impulsively and use my equipment till it is full of scratches. I was thinking of Nikon Z6 but Z lenses seem to be expensive and for wildlife, I will have to purchase and carry huge telephone lenses designed for Nikon F Mount around. I am not a professional and I can call myself only an advanced hobbyist. I take pictures as I travel and all I do is post some pictures on Instagram.... and I don't have plans to go pro. I was looking for compact high performing interchangeable lens camera that I can carry on my motorcycle tank bag with a good lens line up and moderately prized and sized telephoto lenses. I will probably swing towards G9 considering what it offers. Due to C19, it may take a while for it to make to retail outlets and as soon as I am able to get hands on one, I will keep you posted. Thanks for your videos and your advise, they are very helpful!!!

Thanks for these videos. Subscribed for more! I've just ordered a Panasonic G9 to shoot video. My question is : can I record 4k 60fps to my SD card and have the live view which is being displayed to the monitor running 24/30fps ? Can the G9 downscale its HDMI output so I could use a cheaper 1080p/4K 24/30fps monitor????? Any advice or if there's a work around that you know of would be a HUGE help and greatly appreciated 🙏
I have the Feelworld MA6P, which has an FHD resolution and the input supports up to 4K/30p. It works fine, if I shoot at 4K/60p. The monitor just runs at 30p and I don't have to do any specific settings for that. Of course I can't promise you, that it's the same with every monitor, but I suspect it is. Hope this helps.
