Why is there a run rule in college?

They probably don't want a team to lose super bad so they added a mercy rule after so many innings
It’s so a team doesn’t just run away with it and rack up a super high score. But sometimes, it still happens before the run rule kicks in. When I played competitive travel softball back in the 90s, my team and I were playing in nationals and beat the Louisiana state champions 42-2 in 3 innings.

Also if you go to the 5 innings down by 8 (7th innings down by 10 in baseball) unless you have a lot of shit happen your way, you probably won't win unless the other team just give you the W
