So what he's saying is that voldemort was in fact, successful at voldemorting.
This had me rolling xDDD
“Voldemorting” 😭✋
Until his wand malfunction.
U ain't never just say "voldemorting"😅😅
In what world would Voldemort hug anyone
Tbf, the hug helped solidify the characters. Malfoy didn't want to be there and was only there as pressure from his parents and Voldemort couldn't have cared less about those who gave up their livelihoods for the sake of his goals.
The improved awkwardness helped showcase both of that.
I'm interested in what gave you that distinction
@@zekezenitram3620probably the reaction of characters on screen and then also the interview in this video ?
F**king brilliant
@@zekezenitram3620 im interested in how someone cant make that distinction even when its laid out in front..
You can see throughout the final two movies that Draco is conflicted, you see by the final scene where both he and Harry share friendly looks that they reconciled between the final scene and the last at Hogwarts. At some point in the Deathly Hallows, Draco realised Harry was fighting for good and he realised that he himself, doesn't want to be bad. A character doesn't even need to say it, it's visual story telling. It was written over Tom's face, his conflictions were well acted.
"Don't you understand? I have to do this. I have to kill you... or he will kill me" said with tears in his eyes. That's not a bad kid, that's just a terrified one and rightly so. Even his parents showed terror in the face of Voldermort, what chance did Draco have? @@zekezenitram3620
The hug actually did Draco’s character a lot of justice bc it solidified visually how repulsed Draco had become of the death eaters and Voldemort particularly by that point
Yeah I agree
But as a Coward and very much raised to obey his parents he didn't dare defy them and feared Voldemord.
Still love it for how much it expresses. Also the guilt that he let them into Hogwards.
@@TrafalgarWaterDLaw-dl5cmthis is why I wish the alternative where Draco throws a wand at Harry to use against Voldemort would also have been put in as a full scene.
That’s an interesting contrast. Throughout his time as a death eater he’s uncomfortable and scared, but the one time he goes against everything he’s the bravest he’s ever been in his life
@@TrafalgarWaterDLaw-dl5cm We would all fear Voldemort too though. Cause he can insta kill you with his wand. The only person who ever survived him was Harry.
The fact that the actor is feeling exactly how the character is supposed to feel is a win for the directors and production crew. There is a lot of rituals and psychology involved.
Man dude got old quick
It wasn’t them. That was Ralph’s improvisation.
British acting . 😊
@@TheLostDude7 Took 10 years to film the series with actors were of an age to grow & morph quockly,
And that is what worked... it wasn't a "comforting hug" but an almost: "I can slip this blade between your ribs and you won't know it" type of a hug.
Yeah, as if to say I'll take you under my wing but also under my control. Draco is the only person standing in the Hogwarts' side that crosses over and he's a teenager. It's all very symbolic and Voldemort's "reassurance" is double-edged like everything he offers his followers.
Uhmm that’s Prison not Hogwarts, and they prefer the terms “shank” or “shiv” lol
@@avnn.1851you seem like a fun guy.
A John Snow kind of hug 🫂😂
@@StickyFinguzlmaaooo tanksss 🙈 I’m just being dumb tho it wasn’t a serious comment
Okay, most people don't seem to realize that the hug is a display of dominance, not to Draco, but to his family, as if, "this boy is mine now".
Thank you, I was reading the comments like "how do y'all not understand what the hug actually meant?"
This is the correct interpretation.
Well that and the fact Voldemort was celebrating killing a child and Draco felt some guilt & didn’t feel it was a congratulatory moment lol
Absolutely correct
Never thought of it that way before
When you hug a relative that you barely know 💀
seriously that hug looks like how i feel i must look like when i hug my grandpa who i only see on family reunions. he also still thinks im a teenager and im in my thirties. lol. he'll squeeze my shoulder and be like 'so hows school going " and im like... uhhhhhhhhhhh not ....at all. for a while now.
@@ariannasantina100% relatable. My grandfather is exactly the same, even the shoulder squeeze.
@@junepassingthrouthegate8810 yea the shoulder squeeze thing is a secondary moment of awkwardness to the hug itsel lol.. its like when will this please end
It's worse if that relative's a pedo, too.
And if you're a woman, your front parts are touching the chest of that man you barely know.
And you're a teen.
Acting is action and reaction. When he hugs Draco, Tom’s reaction was perfect. At that point he didn’t like Voldemort and went to him out of pressure from his parents. But keep in mind, a great actor will do unexpected things in each take. You have to be ready to react within your character’s confines. Sounds like Tom didn’t mean to, but his instincts were correct.
Acting is at best one thing: acting. I feel a little weird now, knowing Tom himself felt uncomfortably surprised.
@@pavel228
why would that make you feel weird
@pavel228 Some of the best scenes in movies are ones that were added to with improv. Why does this make you feel "wierd"? Are you trying to say that the hug was wrongly done without consent or something? Your comment comes off weirder than anything else
If you’ve seen “Terms of Endearment”, there is an airport scene where Jack Nicholson Improved by grabbing Shirley McClain’s butt. Her reaction was to grab his too. It wasn’t out of character. Each of the characters they played would have acted/reacted that way.
They both won Oscars.
@@pavel228 feeling “weird” is a human reaction. He acted like he felt weird. He acted correctly.
I love when Lucius Malfoy says “My Lord?”
And Voldy completely makes fun of him mockingly saying, “My LoRd?”
Fienes played Voldemort as an absolute power sperg and it worked on every level.
For me, it was when he snapped the serpent head off the end of Lucious' wand and tossed it onto the table with that look.

@@P.MoMoney61Lucis looked like he was gonna cry when Voldemort did that lol
Dude looks so happy. He did his acting young, made enough to get paid for life and pursue his other dreams. He seems very nice, relatable and chill. He is winning
I doubt he made enough from Potter, you know Tom literally only had 30 minutes of screen time throughout the entire Potter series right?
@@jackwhitbread4583 it gave him enough to start a business and he does commercials for fun. You know how big those movies are? He could go to any comicon and get paid
He still acts he was in the flash
Literally every emotion tom describes is how i feel like you are supposed to feel watching it and its incredible
He was Voldemortified.
That’s what made it so chilling, you can tell he has no idea what people like and want in another person. He’s totally devoid of humanity.
One of the moments that made Voldemort so believable. He had lost all his humanity at that point and couldn't even fathom the idea of a physical act of closeness or affection.
"Come give your auntie Voldemort a hug." 😩😤

No it would be distant cousin or uncle because the black are related to most family are related in same ways like the potters the weasley the blacks and molfoy are all related to vodamort
A testament to the acting of Ralph Finnes. Making ppl uncomfortable even when they’re all in on it 😂😂

Well, the weird hug actually fits his character very well. Voldemort is incapable of feeling love because he was conceived under a love potion.
what do you mean?
@@YesNo-ww7md Voldemort's mother fell in love with a muggle that feel the same so she gave him plenty of Amortentias until she decided to cut them off.
He never loved her, he was under the effects of a potion. That's why Voldemort was not conceived with love
@@ingridmeister5597 ohhhh thanks for the explanation
Voldemort is such an uncanny valley masterpiece. Strip away the appearance and the deranged narcissism and you could almost see why people would follow him. He is so charismatic and well spoken man, a sorcerer through and through, but the dark srts have twisted him so unnaturally that seeing him is akin to seeing a beautifully crafted taxidermy deer. The purest image of any wizards ideal brought about by stripping away all that gave it life to begin with. Tom Riddle in his efforts to avoid death was consumed by it far before it ever took him.
It's sometimes easier to just make your coactors actually feel the emotions you want them to portray.
Made me remember that Alien actors weren't told where the baby alien was gonna come out. They were horrified and disgusted at the same time when they saw the belly explode😆
In my opinion you should allow them to act. Not make them uncomfortable on purpose. A hug might be fine - or maybe not. A kiss might be fine - or maybe not. A slap, a touch or maybe just a word. You get where I‘m coming from I suppose. Where do you draw the line? There are reasons for intimacy coordination. Stunt coordinations. Directions and Rehearsals. There is a power imbalance at a film set anyway. (Here for example the age.) There might be peer pressure anyway. In my opinion, people should know what to expect. Or communicate boundaries before, where the other person draws the line, when improvising is wanted.
As someone that acted before, it is already difficult to just improvise along with someone if you like where they’re going. It gets infinitely harder, when you don’t and waay more harder, when you feel uncomfortable.
And if you exit the scene then and there, you are the person, that ruined the take, wasted the time (in a movie even worse, when it’s theatre). You don’t have to love everything you do as an actor and a step out of the comfort zone might be exactly what’s needed. But never should you have to deal with an unpleasant surprise or discomfort you couldn‘t see coming.
@@pavel228 good pov, the fact one of the alien actors fainted after the belly blow scene...
@@echeffe4168how did they manage to set the scene up without the actor’s knowing, though?
@@Back_and_Better_Than_You I don't know, the actor who got blown up knew but the others didn't. Maybe they were given a hint. If you search a bit there is a video with this actor explaining the scene
I love how Tom's awkwardness & confused anger during the improv translated to Draco feeling scared but disappointed in himself for being pressured to becoming a Death Eater.
Actor "Why is the other actor hugging me??? This feels really creepy and akward!" Character "Why is Lord Volemort Hugging me??? This feels really creepy and akward!"
@My-cat-is-staring-at-youI mean, I Voldemort isn’t really a character that would ever hug someone, but if he did, that’s exactly how he’d do it. More of a possessive gesture than an affectionate one. One where you’re like “oh my god, is he going to kill him now?! No wait. He’s… hugging him? Christ, that’s much worse, for some reason.”
“What is he doing 😀”
he poked him wit his other wand

Ralph Fiennes is a master .. proposing that unscripted take was genius.
That hug was so perfect, like clearly Voldemort doesn’t even know how to feign being warm and inviting.
Voldemort+hug=what the hell
It was a comedic moment to slightly break the tension. Lots of films do that. However, this comedic moment was also incredibly awkward, which made it even better. 😂
Huggymort
Voldemort: FREE HUGS
" But also... chilling." Tom Felton said calmly.
lol the fact the actor was also nervous about the hug made that scene better, all it did was really sell the idea of the scene
Can we all just appreciate how great his hair and eyes looked in that moment tho?
But Voldemort doesn’t have hair
Totally, he was hot in that movie 😍😍
@goferboy2374 🤣🤣 they are talking abt Draco I guess
@@Athena.L.thanatos6685 I know lol, I was making a dumb joke
Lord voldemort did have pretty eyes.😂😂
That was one of the many perfect things Ralph did as he played that roll.
Even Voldy needs a hug every once in a while🫂
This hug is where Voldemort asserts his dominance. Voldemort does’t want to hug or show affection. But he does this so he can mock Harry’s death. Even at this moment he uses Draco as a puppet.
I always thought of it as like Voldemort is so deep into being evil and uncaring that he doesn't even know how to give a hug. The way he hugs is very much like a "is this how you do it?" Kind of way lol. Brilliantly acted
That awkwardness made it incredible. As if it was meant to happen.
The hug was like a person holding someone hostage with a knife to his neck.
Tom Felton is one of these actors who you just hate their characters but you love their actor😂❤
The hug, the laugh, I honestly thought that Voldemort was about to dance too when I first saw this scene
In other interviews, Ralph Fiennes really personified and stuck with Voldemort being Voldemort, even making a child cry because of how he looked as V, as much as the great Alan Rickman stuck to Snape being Snape, both snob, scary, unpredictable and whatnot and maintained their frightening persona on and off cam, that’s why Draco and other children casts were actually nervous/sort of afraid of them making everything more realistic.
RIP Alan
I saw an interview he did where he was gleefully chuckling about the little boy that burst into tears on seeing him made up as Voldemort. I always thought it was funny how you had Alan Rickman talking about how much he loved kids, and even ate lunch with a group of fans while he was in character, and then you have Jason Isaacs talking about how much respect he has for the young cast members, and how he still has a father-son relationship with Tom Felton… meanwhile, Ralph Fiennes is like “yeah, f-- them kids.”
(I mean this jokingly, I have a lot of respect for Fiennes as an actor, and not everybody has to like kids. Don’t come after me).
A more fitting and perfect encapsulation of Voldemort’s side can’t be found.
That one “aunt” you’ve never seen before who used to “change your nappies”
and has scratchy facial hair
Love the part when Voldemort stands up, says “it’s Voldin’ time” and begins annihilating everyone
So that's why that hug looked so awkward 😭😭
@muhelectionwasstolen7253 Spoil rich kid in the end realized how screwed up all this was. It changed him for life. Potter and Malfoy would probably never be friends but they would more respect each other.
@@RabbitsInBlackMalfoy owed his life to Potter. He would indeed have a reverence for Potter since that regardless of how their past relationship was. At this point he is no longer the spoiled brat he was throughout the series.
HE-HE!! 😂😂, Voldemort's laugh is crazy.I think that's when Tom started to worry!😂😂😂
In voldemorts mind I think he was trying to portray comfort to try and lure students over even though it didn't come across that way. Don't forget he didn't want to kill full blood wizards.
Brilliant bit of acting
Draco was well acted in later films. In earlier films/book adaptations he is a lot younger and also material less edgy and not so much for him to work with, but in the end he captured character perfectly .
Yeah, I actually think Tom Felton is the best actor out of all the young cast members.
That bts knowledge is amazing. What a great actor that man is
I feel like Voldemort went from “THE Lord Voldermort” to “Here comes goofy old voldie”
It was very in-character for Voldemort that Ralph Fiennes chose to do that. Voldemort doesn’t understand love or affection, and probably never hugged anyone, so he wouldn’t be normal about how or when to do it. When the actor threw it into this scene, it made Tom Felton react awkwardly just as Draco would’ve done. Perfect improv moment.
This is such an iconic scene
Voldemort saying: 'Ohh' 😂😂😂
You would think he’s talking about Voldemort, but he’s actually talking about Ralph Fiennes
I love Ralph Fiennes.. couldn't ask for a better actor. Tom Felton looks so amazing with that platinum blonde. Hope we get to see that again.
Voldemort with nose doesn't exist, he can't hurt you.
Voldemort with nose:
Have you seen the HP rap? Voldy's laugh is used as the intro 🤣
What is called
Its hella funny
I can never unhear it 😭
The lyrics with his laugh was just hilarious
Ill start "one of the most wizards most Rudimentary skills is levitation the ability to make objects fly" "your a wizard harry"
Its actually pretty showing that Voldemort doesn't know love, or friendship, or hugging.
but Voldemort trying to mimic these emotions/behaviors by hugging Draco just adds another layer to his psychopathy, & Ralph Fiennes nailed it 🙌🏽
Imagine being Draco in that moment. Voldemort is obviously feigning compassion to disarm the crowd of his enemies. He's putting on a show, pretending he's not all bad and rewards his followers, but he's dreadfully awkward at it so it's clear he's faking.
Do you hug back? If you hug back, knowing who he is, do you think he can hold back his "how dare you touch me" temper? He's an unhinged maniac. It's like walking on egg shells on the best of days. Now he wants a hug in front of a crowd? So, yeah, just stand there like a board and let him woggle his arms around you like a weirdo.
Ralph Fiennes is a national treasure.
The hug is somehow still very Voldemort, a mocking of his parents right in front of them
I read in Tom Felton’s book they did like fifty takes of this each time getting something different & than the one they ended up using was the hug.
That's one hell of an aging spell Voldemort cast on Draco
ikr bro is the oldest 36 year old ive ever seen 😂

That hug was a perfect addition. It explained a lot about the fact that Voldemort is incapable of actually caring/loving.

That's a certified >patpat< on the back moment
The hug was brilliant. It really drives home the statement Harry made to Tom in The Order of the Pheonix.
"You are the weak one. You'll never know love ...or friendship. And I feel sorry for you."
so the awkwardness of that hug was REAL lol .

All I see is incredible acting. The improvisation is amazing, he made the scene greater than it was originally with just a awkward hug, showing the power he had on this scene. This is why Ralph was perfect for voldermort.
Im almost angry i saw the alternate version of this scene lol (In the alt Draco throws Harry his wond when he jumps up to help him) Just such a better conclusion for his character
I saw it too but I'm glad they didn't put that in as it didn't happen in the book
I’m happy for the hug but I’m upset at the deleted scene in which Malloy throws Harry his wand. That would have been an epic moment!

It gate it that perfect thing it needed. It made the scene seem that extra weird specially since no one would of thought of Voldemort as someone to hug.

That hug was such a telling moment and made the scene so much better
It did look awkward tbh😅
I love when an Actor doesn't get in the way of the scene and is able to stay in character and use their natural emotion in the moment
Could perceived as great improvised acting of a character.
Could also be perceived as very weird sexual harassment.
Eh fu(k it it was great improvisation.
The fact that it was so unexpected made it so perfect
He didn’t say he hated it. Hate this generation. Just blanket statements, or false headlines that just become “fact” to the viewer. It was meant to be awkward and chilling, so the fact the actor even felt that makes me love Ralph even more. He is the only Voldemort ! No one else could’ve done it like Ralph !
"this generation". Something tells me you don't mean generation X who popularized this sort of stuff. Anyone younger wasn't in charge before it tickled down to the small channels

Yeah, the title is clickbait. Somebody commented that Tom is “afraid of improvisation, and that’s why he never succeeded as an actor”. Which is silly, because 1) he improvised a lot of his own lines in the films, and 2) he’s telling this story for dramatic effect because it’s a funny story.
People take things too seriously.
The hug solidified the amazingness of not only this performance in the scene (the whole movie tbh) but for the surrounding characters as well. I’m saying the hug was perfect for Voldemort. And the awkwardness and chilly feel was perfect. 👍

I think he was commenting more about how the scene felt overall rather than his personal feelings about it.
Ralph Fiennes was so goated as Voldemort, I think I hadn't actually fully noticed how good he was until this explanation. Looking back, he killed every scene
