Thanks Lydia for this video. I find myself a lot of times under bidding customers, and having to go back over someone else's work. That's where I lose money. I paint interior and finish also, but one of my problems is I am only one guy, and a lot of times there is more work than I started out with. Thank you for the insight on a few of these points. Drywall Solutions and More
spot on - all points. My brother is self employed, my wife is freelance graphic design. it's hard going it alone. really hard. The thing no one talks about it - when you're a W2 employee for a company - the employer and the employee split the bill on the social security contributions. If you're self-employed, you pay the combined employee and employer amount. This amount is a 12.4% Social Security tax on up to $168,600 of your net earnings and a 2.9% Medicare tax on your entire net earnings. on top of that... health care, retirement accounts like a 401k Everything Lydia said is right... you gotta bid it like you mean it because going it on your own you dont get the 4% 401k match, no health care split cost, no social security split. all this is baked into your bid. i get it why companies don't want to put people on the payroll. - it's EFFING expensive. hats off to the folks that go it on their own...it's hard work. dont bid it like you just need to eat - bid it like you want to retire some day.
