      @@Stormhold09 Given how Yujin even admits he forgets case details that happened nearly the day after (he left his poor partner out when recollecting the case on the SS Grouse after the trial!) it's pretty clear Holmes is pretty forgetful and tunnel-visioned when it comes to solving crime.
      Here's my take on Holmes. When he and Yujin partnered for those 6 years, they did their back and forth profiling witness, victim, and perpetrator alike as they did on the Grouse. Given that Holmes wasn't famous in this version of the world until Yujin's notes were made public by Iris, one could say them solving crimes together was how Sherlock made his name known to the Yard and the English people at large. Sherlock has always demonstrated a bad habit of taking his stellar intellect and hyper-observation to notice all but the last detail and then derailing the entire case because of that. His partner kept him from stumbling and he knew to then rely on Yujin. When Yujin went back to the Japan Holmes started struggling by himself until he met Ryuunosuke.
      One could say he is meta-aware the entire time given his keenness to keep Kazuma alive and deduce the assassination exchange, but bear in mind he was communicating with Yujin by wire during that time. Yujin might have been more involved than Holmes gave him credit for...probably because he simply forgot.
      Conan Doyle's Holmes didn't need Watson to solve his cases except in instances when he needed a reliable friend to be near the case and let him observe without being seen (see Hound of the Baskervilles). I suspect the DGS writers wanted to hamper his intellect to show everyone working in harmony to cover each other's weaknesses, otherwise Holmes would, out of pride, make a big reveal at the end that he knew all along, as he always did in the short stories.

But then again, there's evidence suggesting that it could be taking place some time later, or considerably earlier. Holmes isn't by any stretch of the imagination dumb, but he's prone to entertaining dubious conclusions WAY before he gathers all of the "correct" information. Runo tends to not interrupt him, correcting his deductions after the fact, whereas Mikotoba, being Holmes' "Watson", is able to do this on the fly, in their Dance of Deduction. "Watson" is the "careful observer", who notices small oddities in his surroundings, where Holmes extrapolates the solution using these observations.

    I feel like this proves that during the entirety of the first two games up until this point, Holmes' deductions were purposefully wrong in order to "train" Naruhodou and Susato in their deductions as well.
    After the final deduction that you do with Holmes as Naruhodou (the Iris one), he tells both Naruhodou and Susato that they "mastered the art of deduction."
    Then, in this proper final deduction involving Holmes and Yujin, we get to see the true power of the great detective Sherlock Holmes...and his trusty partner of course, Yujin Mikotoba.
    It's truly a magnificent tale.

    • @tangeek42
      @tangeek42 Год назад +41

      Yeah I agree. Before doing the second game, I legit thought Herlock was a "smart doofus". You know, by no means stupid, he can hold his own, but just not up to his portrayal in Iris' books. He can deduce fine, but needs a partner to make sure he has the right facts to begin with. I already loved that about him. He was already my favorite version of the character because of this.
      Knowing now he was steps ahead of us the entire time, I love him even more. He truly doesn't care if people think he's an idiot, he sincerely wants to elevate people to better themselves, which I think can't be said about the original Holmes. The original Sherlock doesn't care about his reputation, but question his intelligence and he will flip, he's a show-off even in the books. Herlock is not. He loves the spectacle, sure, but not himself.
      You could disagree, it's up for debate, but man, there's no question Herlock Sholmes is an amazing portrayal of the character. I'm amazed some people could feel insulted that "Japanese writers dared attack such a classic" (actually read that on reddit and such). He is awesome and you can totally see the writers are legit fans of the original books (the "wrong" deductions are actually all from the books themselves, it's a humurous nod to the fans, how can that be anything but fun ?)

    Nice, this song was great. I was recommended this and I have just finished TGAA2 (which I'll say the game as a whole was a tad disappointing, especially by the end) so it is slightly bittersweet to hear this. While I may not have like the whole "Dance of Deduction"/"Joint Reasoning" as a mechanic, the last one in the final case was great when this music played. Only thing to make it better would've been if they had synch the dance with the music.
    Now on to the extra escapades!

    • @pindagreat

      I've been writing about the game for a video I plan on making, and I concur 100% on the ending being disappointing.
      Sholmes and Iris literally inventing holograms overnight to livestream the trial to the Queen of England was a massive copout.

    • @cintokrator6672
      @cintokrator6672 2 года назад +15

      @@pindagreat Ikr? While my disappointment isn't strictly limited to the ending, as I don't think any of the cases were as strong/fun as cases 3-5 of TGAA1 (I know that case four is a contentious one), the ending was a big sore spot. What worse is that I think the game had everything it needed in the courtroom to make for a really good ending without having to do what it did.
      I feel as though that when the gallery demanded that the trial should go on, they should have insisted to form a "makeshift" jury on the spot. Seeing as they were already insisting to make the trial continue, this would have helped hammer that in better without having to rely on the gallery murmurs. If you did this, then Stronghart's whole point about how everything that was revealed during the trial should be swept under the rug for the sake of the country could lead to a Summation Examination with the jury agree to keep everything a secret. You could then have the players press all the statements and go into a discussion about what the law/government is supposed to be/what it exists for, everything wrong with this cover-up and convince the jury to change their mind. This would give the ending more of a "the will of the people" (sort of like a checks and balances dealio) moral and effectively address the whole "bring forth meaningful change to the legal system" that the AA series has been trying (and kinda failing) to handle for years.
      Whats more, is that this would have lent itself to the "theme" of the ending. Phoenix's arc in T&T was about him becoming a lawyer that doesn't need to rely on those around him to get shit done, where as Naruhodo had to rely on those around him to get shit done. Showing that it is a collective effort to bring about "justice".
      A part of me has to imagine that this was at least considered in development, as it seems like a natural conclusion to make with all the things there... but they wound up going with the cop-out that they did for some reason. Maybe it was technical limits or that the game was rushed in some way. After all, the game did feel rushed and poorly thought out in a couple other (minor) areas, too.
      Honestly, I'd really like to hear the story behind the development of this game. As of right now the game is sort of in between "Takumi" and "Yamazaki" territory and I am not sure how big a hand Eshiro (the producer of all Yamazaki's AA games and TGAA2) had in the development of TGAA2.
