Posted 4 years ago but still giving ! Never thought about checking the oil level until I found this. My jack seems to gradually creep down so I will now try topping the fluid up. Thanks
I have had the exact same jack now for 15 years or more, i have treated it very badly over this time and it still works brilliantly to this day. Great bit of kit
I have a similar jack and I flushed all the old contaminated fluid out before refilling with fresh fluid. The best way to insure that your cylinder is full is to stand the jack vertically with handle down and fill until fluid is level with fill opening. Lower the jack back down and install the plug. Also, you can use the long handle to open and close the valve rather than a wrench on most trolley jacks.
Just in case you did not know you can use the end of the jack handle to unscrew and tighten the release bolt when letting the jack down. Thanks for the video, I have 2 of these and always wondered how I would service them.
HI there, the handle trick works well, but the screw on mine has become a bit worn, so if it is very tight I have to take a spanner to it. I think mine has a broken seal somewhere, because it has needed filling again, thanks for the tip.
I don't know if you know it but inside the Jack handles a little pin or you can stick it on that bleeder to let it back down with you don't have to use a wrench anyhow
Could it be that the other, red, cap an screw could be some sort of "control hole"? To actually see inside or see better? I have really bad translated manual for my trolley jack (probably translated via babelfish) but haven't had the guts to actually meddle with the other cap / screw.
Thanks for this I have the same halfords jack 20 years old.same problem.i filled mine up with hydrolic steering fluid seems O. K.now saved me buying a new one.i couldent figure what was wrong with it.its not leaking just needed topping up.thanks
Lube the filler plug. Then try pushing straight down on the cap with a fair amount of pressure. Might be you'd angle it in first, then press it in firmly from there.
great video, gonna go ahead and see if this will fix my cheapo $20 jack :D i have a much bigger 3 ton one, but sometimes something short and sweet is much better (:
I have a bigger heavier one as well, but it is heavy to lug about. the little one is nice and clean, but it is still losing oil, I have to do this again.
There's no need to tighten the valve quite as tight as you did with that adjustable.... I cringed every time. Apart from that, thanks :-) very informative.
I have trolly jack am fill the jack oil it take good pressure work but after lift up car then am down the jack the screw thread out alot then pressure release slow why
The seals in the pump and the hydraulic cylinder that does all the lifting are good, but not perfect. Over time (usually many years) the hydraulic oil will gradually 'leak' out and end up as 'gunk' on the underside of the jack.
Do not put dirty tissue or put your funnel on the floor repeatedly then use it as this could lead to grit getting in the cylinder, also leave fluid level 10 m/m below fill hole.

I think you’ll find that a trolley is used to move groceries in a supermarket. A trolley jack is so called as it is on castors. Good luck in your pursuit of alienating other nations on the basis of slight differences! And thanks for watching the video. I hope it helped.
Why, does it annoy you that this is not a tv quality production? How could I guess what I was going to do if I hadn't done it before? If you don't see mistakes how will you see what can go wrong?

interesting! Which way do you stand it up? Do you mean with the handle end to the floor or the other end to the floor?
handle end down toward the floor. Lift pad will be in the up position.

Awesome description
Thanks for the purpose of offering many of these awesome subject material.
You write like someone with a fake account “Matt Seals”. 🤔
Thx for sharing..give a clue for somebody with no point like me..thx sir.
IT “rose” up.👍
Thank you very much! I followed the instruction to a "T" with same results! 😊
You are welcome. It is worth keeping your tools in good condition.
You did well, I have the same problem. I will give it a try. Great accent!
Thanks buddy, this jack needs it every 6 months or so. keep it country!
Could it be that the other, red, cap an screw could be some sort of "control hole"?

It was the same with me, the jack had just become lazy. thanks for watching and for the comment, glad it helped.
Is steering fluid OK? I have some handy but no 'jack' fluid.
@@Tibs562 good question! I'm wondering the same thing. 🤔
You should use jack oil. Power steering or transmission fluid will eat at the seals in the cylinder.
@@kaiserwillie67 Like it does in a car? NOT.
The handle is designed to loosen/tighten the relief screw - no need for the adjustable wrench.
Thanks buddy. The end of the handle on my one is very worn.
o.0
€3.50 for jack oil? That’s brilliant. It’s at least four times as much in Australia 🫤
brilliant wee video and commentary.
Thanks buddy, XD
Ok, it helped me a lot, thanks a lot
no problem Buddy!
It's from Halford's mate! If there isn't oil under it, there isn't oil in it!
I love it! LOL
Old Jaguars are the same.
mooi filmpje om te zien, hoe ik mijn krik kan vullen met olie etc...
Where did you get the funnel from, I can't find a small size like that anywhere
any home store? Hardware, ironmongers, drugstore large supermarket?
Use a large syringe or a squirty bottle with a long thin spout.
this guy does not know where the >filler plug< is ! but makes a "how to" video anyway ?
And you watched it! Thanks for the comment!
That is the filler plug. There are two more screws they are for adjusting pressure. Pressure valves
TY!!!!
my first jack it is the same one as this and i have had nothing but trubel with it
try topping up the oil
oh trouble!
Thanks for the tip, but I’m dammed if I can get the little rubber filler plug back in.
Lube the filler plug. Then try pushing straight down on the cap with a fair amount of pressure. Might be you'd angle it in first, then press it in firmly from there.

Got it cheers
Nice thank tou. Very helpfull.

Good to know, thanks!
Hope you are ok.
Hi my jack dont have a filling screw, how can I fill it with oil
Magic? Make a wish? Or send me a link to a video of it or a mdel number or photo and maybe i can help?
You could run a tap through the hole to cut threads for a bolt. Just make sure you put grease on the tap so it catches all the metal filings.
have you ever tried to lift 25 Tonnes?
Should have put you're camera on top so viewer's can see what you're doing
Very helpful, but would of been better not making vid next to a motorway.
In my trolly jack presure release but not down jack what is problem in this jack
Sounds like the pressure doesn't actually release?
I have trolly jack am fill the jack oil it take good pressure work but after lift up car then am down the jack the screw thread out alot then pressure release slow why
Why no brake fluid?
I have not found a perfect answer, other than 'might not operate as desired' with nothing specific that would go wrong.
And people wonder why lions eat their young......
Where does the jack oil dissapear to in the first place?
France I think, but it might be Thailand?
not what i meant lol
Lol, I am just trying to veil my lack of knowledge with humour!

Eco warriors have it.

I made this video years ago and it was the last time I filled the Jack. This is how I did it and it works as well as ever
Need to jump the camera around more. A lot more.
I tried Bob, I really tried.
Does it have to be filled 100% ?
It doesn't hurt.

Maybe you should watch this video!
Probably shouldn't tell people how to do things if you're not a 100% sure of how to do them.
I didn’t tell anyone anything. I show people what I do.
Next video you make sound off like you have balls. Your tools sounded louder than you did..Other than that you got the point across.
Nothing
Wow, why do a how to video when YOU don't know how to! , lol
Lol, you should see my other videos, lol! I rarely start out knowing how to!
Don't think you should be messing with this or cars you have not got a clue what you are doing
no idea.
you must be a brit only a brit would rename a floor jack to a trolley jack do you really belive this is for lifting up trains
I think you’ll find that a trolley is used to move groceries in a supermarket. A trolley jack is so called as it is on castors. Good luck in your pursuit of alienating other nations on the basis of slight differences! And thanks for watching the video. I hope it helped.
you mean a grocery cart thust named grocery cart why would you call it a trolley you must be brit as well
Lolz. Nah. Not British. Not even with a lower case b.
floor jack named floor jack because its used on the floor , where do you use a trolley jack?
i wouldnt use a capt b for brit as i did not say British did I
Prepare for the video or edit mistakes, please.

i've only got brake fluid. drat
