Thank you for this Mr. Tolle. I had someone a few days ago "tell me how it is." I remembered from your teaching something like: no need to get upset -- it's just the pain body. "Now, obviously people do not want to think that they have no purpose, so they invent various purposes for themselves. Eventually, their real purpose will have the possibility of emerging and when it begins to emerge, they will realize that they have a responsibility to accept change that is necessary and to instigate change that is necessary. They will also realize that they have a responsibility to maintain themselves in good health, to become aware of their strengths and weaknesses and their favorable and unfavorable tendencies, and so forth. The emergence of purpose will require change in their thinking, behavior and perception and in their relationships with others as well. Often people become very lazy here because they are waiting for something to change them. Then if it goes wrong, they have someone else to blame. “Hey, I was just there and it changed! Don’t blame me!” But to take full responsibility means that you are cooperating with life in bringing about the necessary adjustments as you proceed." ~Wisdom From The Greater Community Book 1~Provoking Change~

Responsibility: our ability to respond 🤯🤯🤯 Wow!!! It's amazing how native speakers of a language (English, in this case) just don't hear the roots of our own words until a non-native or bilingual speaker points it out. This completely changed my understanding of "responsibility"! So astute, Eckhart. 👏
I remember this clip. What a wonderful question this man asked. The answer really hit me about 10 years ago and it has become truth to me since. I love this teaching so much. Thank you both.
None of us are responsible for the thoughts we receive or the behaviour and actions of others as we have absolutely no control of either, but we are all responsible for our own words, behaviour and actions and the way we treat and talk to ourselves and others. Be kind as often as you can be at any given time, and on those occasions when you simply can't be kind then simply resist the temptation to be unkind to yourself and others 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I feel your words pierce my ego, and it tries to escape them in sick ways , but I want to embrace them . Thank you for all. This responsability can be overwhelming, but I know its truth and I take it as such ❤
I think this topic is like looking into a mirror facing another mirror (that endless reflection. Before too many reflections, you can't tell which one you're looking at.). Our conscious experience literally emerges from the subconscious (a murky, irrational 95% of the brain we don't have much access to; something that can carry trauma, anger, shame -- "conditioning" and produce a skewed sense of experience into the 5% conscious part of the brain. The "deep-seated dysfunction."). This emergent experience even occurs a little late (about 1/2 second after the fact). The 5% conscious part (the emerged experience) makes sense of it all like it's real, rationalizes it, complains that it should be better, fussy about it all like it's _not_ emergent. ("I'm doing this! I'm doing it all!"). IMO, the only responsibility we have (or the primary responsibility) is to realize the above, and exist with more realization (i.e., "make it real") of the above. Truly distrust what's emerging, put some space between it and the moment, veto whatever's not neessary in the moment (don't over identify with it). It has a delay emerging into us. We can practice a delay before reacting to it. That small space is where we can observe it and choose not to identify with it as much as we do (when we just run with it like it's real, and "I'm doing this! It's all me!").
I must add few strong words and Im truly more than sure dear Eckhart knows that (its obvious) but I hope he reads it too and maybe touch that point in some speech. . I think about this a lot, I was also pretty active, currently im not so much active (in helping t solve these most important issues). Consciousness and taking responsibility is empty if not bringing action!! We live in system, we live in many systems. Systems govern our lives (political, economical, health systems, educational systems etc etc etc). Majority of these systems are csuch that they do bring havoc and destruction and , lets say, generate suffering, or what not. Well, as we live in such systems, if we re conscious, we MUST cause disturbance to them. FIght against those systems and building new ones. What I want to say: its not just individual action. It is, but thats too little, or action on individual level. Like, OK, ill save water, Ill not litter - and I take care for earth :o You know at what pace this would solve environmental problems??? People who are conscious MUST take stronger and unified, group action(s) I believe this cant be stressed enough as I see too much illusions around me, among "spiritual" and "conscious" people. Who think world will change if they change and "work" o their consciousness. If its not followed by action, its not some special "!consciousness". An if its followed just by small, personal action, n personal level - again - in my strong opinion - its pretty limited consciousness. People must lose their impracticality and their inertia and illusions about consciousness that will miraculously change the world (yes it will, but through action, unified, group, energetic, strong, articulated, smart action, which of course has t have start, and its not tomorrow) - and must act upon their knowledge. Thats consciousness - real knowledge. You must act, and sometimes you must sacrifice something too. some free time etc, to act. YOu must learn how the world in which we live functions (speaking about those systems) and act intelligently. (in this day and age, its always some sort of group action)
I have been fretting about the slowness of humanity to wake up and become responsoble for looking after our planet. I am hearteed to see Eckhart speak about this so eloquently.,a subject that l know greatly concerns many humans. I love Eckhart's teaching and directness. No riddles, nothin. Btw if anyone's interested, the quote he mentions in the video is Mahatma Gandhi's. Not a huge fan of his, but some of the information imparted by him(like the quote mentioned here) is helpful.
Thank you so much for this brilliant understanding of consciousness. Since I was a child, I have had difficulty understanding how people could believe the things they said about others and how they treated other people. I did not realize that it was the consciousness of people which did not allow people to see what they were doing. Life is not going to get easier. That is okay.
Consciousness is evolution. Knowing this alone can help us return to a space of compassion for all humans regardless of their stage in their evolutionary journey. For how can one measure evolution? Based on which point of "arrival"? Based on whose point of "arrival"? Different people are at different stages in their conscious expansion and each person needs to go through his/her own unique life experiences for them to arrive at the next level of consciousness. No level of consciousness is more elevated than the other for at every level the person has something to learn.
THANK YOU ECKHART! We need to understand that what we must take responsibility..it is the way of the Spiritual Warrior! I take responsibility for EVERYTHING right or wrong in my world no matter who did what to me (and trust me I've been sh*tted upon and left out to dry), what the gov. did etc. did I blame my genes, the doctors etc. when I had an "incurable" disease from birth? No, I cured myself instead...doctors couldn't, Reiki, diet acupuncture..all that stuff couldn't because it was "genetic" and "incurable"...only I'm cured..no steroids/immunosuppressants in over 5 years...we MUST take responsibility for everything we say, do and even think..... we are all connected through energy and presence, EVERYTHING we do matters. Namaste!
I realized that strong or at least new emotions activate the conscious mind to a degree. The more you get lost in a repetitive thought pattern or ineffective activities, the bitter you become from my experience. So does this transformation Eckhart is speaking about mean „communication“, like sending out energy to the universe while at the same time receiving energy?
Eckhart puts it well here, as always, mirroring my own thoughts. or I suppose we stem from the same font of knowledge. On the road to understanding the power of intent (how our awareness creates our reality), one thing that I've learned is that one can intend one's own reality, but since each awareness has sovereignty over its own reality (and the Earth is an awareness unto itself), it is impossible to intend for others (such as by taking responsibility for things that are not of one's own making). Other humans, all other lifeforms (awarenesses) and the Earth are exactly what they are supposed to be for maximum spiritual growth (i.e. the increase in awareness). It is not for the spiritual apt to interfere in the fate of others, or Other, and any attempt to do so "dumps" the personal energy that is needed to live one's own life effectively. I believe that the Earth isn't terra firma in the way that we typically think it is. The Earth, a vast and primordial being, acts as a 'hub' for all awarenesses that are connected to it (and therefore incubated by it). The Earth, through the geo-magnetic system, takes in all the separate realities of all the disparate beings connected to it and 'rebroadcasts' this as the consensus reality that we all experience together. But this system is vast and all but unintelligible to our minds which are rooted in carnality. The upside is that life can be whatever any awareness wishes it to be (with enough awareness and focus), and so life can be a paradise for one awareness and a hell for another awareness all the while existing within the same physical construct. We must free ourselves from too much concern about other aware beings that can also determine their own fate when they're ready to do so.
I would add that once you take responsibility for yourself then everything you do will take responsibility for humanity, living beings, the world, the universe, etc. Once you've taken responsibility for yourself, then everything will flow from there regardless of whether you pump water or cure cancer. However if you try to do the latter with a corrupted state, then whatever the "cure" is will be imperfect at best and possibly worse than the problem. To being able to do things with pure self is key. I personally think money and seeking money is extremely corrupting. Same goes for power, fame, etc.
Why is it so easy to say, "be the change" and so difficult to actually do it? As I am listening, I think to myself, yes I can do this. I can be the change. But the moment this video ends and I go out into the world, my mind will revert to its normal state.
it's so hard because it isn't an intellectual exercise. It isn't so much a "doing". It's BEING. It is important to grow our self awareness. Becoming more aware of our particular conditioned patterns and automatic habitual ways of reacting/thinking. Growing our capacity to be aware of these automatic habitual patterns without enacting them, is very important inner work and it tends to be a long, slow and ongoing, challenging process. We must face our inner wounds and bring love, compassion and acceptance, without judgement, to them. Most people are completely enveloped in their conditioned state which is a mixed bag of compensatory mechanisms, defensive mechanisms, ways of suppressing and repressing parts of our experience, unquestioned assumptions, judgements, beliefs and conclusions. This is what people call "I". We are each responsible for doing our inner work but that isn't possible without a certain level of awareness as Eckhart said. Many carry trauma from childhood so it's important to face these wounds and accept fully that traumatic events happened but recognize what happened has "nothing to do with who I am" and the ones who did seeming harm were unable to do any different. This is a tough one for most people.
Yes I feel the same way … and wonder what it will take .. what degree of suffering will it take!?! As ET ended this short clip … it’s this dysfunction he talks about that’s in humanity … and I need to unleash my power to override it … I think it’s fear of failure that stops me … but I can also feel the edge of that … and know that I will jump soon and not let the past win! Good luck, get over that edge and be a contribution to our futures! Perhaps!?! Lol
Death to self (ego identity that exists apart from connection to and complete immersion with ‘God’ - however one conceives of the fundamental force behind and permeating all creation) is the only way one can overcome the inherent dysfunction that defines the human condition. THIS was Jesus’ message, and other guides to the divine - not the rest of the dogmatic nonsense taught by the various institutions. The challenge then is how to achieve this state of connection and immersion with God and to remain there. Thanks Echart for this wonderful signpost.
For some reason, I have always found this guy interesting. I like the Integral Mashups audio thingy with him and have read some of his books. This guy is weird but in a good way 😎
5:50 pm When the questioner asked about responsibility, I thought he wanted to know, because I do, about activism and maybe peaceful protest??? I love Eckhart very much, but I do struggle with being peaceful when so much violent chaos is world wide and there is so much need and suffering.

Why didn’t he talk about our actions?

Based on which point of "arrival"?
Based on whose point of "arrival"?
Different people are at different stages in their conscious expansion and each person needs to go through his/her own unique life experiences for them to arrive at the next level of consciousness.
No level of consciousness is more elevated than the other for at every level the person has something to learn.
Amazing lesson on being unconscious: forgive them Father, for they not know what they do😢
THANK YOU ECKHART!
Thank you 😄!
thank you xo
Thank you
🙏🏽
I would add that once you take responsibility for yourself then everything you do will take responsibility for humanity, living beings, the world, the universe, etc. Once you've taken responsibility for yourself, then everything will flow from there regardless of whether you pump water or cure cancer. However if you try to do the latter with a corrupted state, then whatever the "cure" is will be imperfect at best and possibly worse than the problem. To being able to do things with pure self is key. I personally think money and seeking money is extremely corrupting. Same goes for power, fame, etc.
Thanks 🙌❤️😁
Muchas gracias
Perhaps!?! Lol
That’s the work. One step at a time. You can do it!
I tried doing what happened to Eckhart when looked at everyone with love after his existential "I can't live with myself" moment. It's hard though.
This guy is weird but in a good way 😎
"we are the sickness of the human mind". 🙏🙏
That was really funny at the end! ❤
beautifully said❤
5:50 pm When the questioner asked about responsibility, I thought he wanted to know, because I do, about activism and maybe peaceful protest??? I love Eckhart very much, but I do struggle with being peaceful when so much violent chaos is world wide and there is so much need and suffering.
Amen ❤
