The film crew didn't have the budget to afford this scene.
Johnny Cash paid a 14mm film crew to come out for this scene and paid for the concert himself, just to give the episode the strong start that the writers wanted, but couldn't afford.
    Seriously good man, this guy.

D A, yes, this last line of Columbo touched me deeply, when I saw "Swan Song" for the first time many decades ago. I became a Cash fan instantly. However, I have to say that Columbo may have been mistaken. While his "bible spoutin' hypocrite" wife was insufferable, Tommy Brown was a pretty bad lot 😉 He didn't just coldbloodedly murder his wife. He also accepted that his underage ex-girlfriend Mary Ann became a collateral victim. I call this pretty wicked. The only redeeming thing is, that he gave his wife a chance to loosen the stranglehold she had on him, when he talked to her before he decided to proceed with his devious plan.
Anyway, I really thought that Johnny Cash was a very decent actor!

However, Tommy became very concerned that the search for the bottle would also produce the damning evidence that he had used a parachute. Therefore he returned to the crashsite in order to remove the parachute. But the allegedly planned search for the thermos bottle was a ruse. Just like a blind man I wandered along
Worries and fears I claimed for my own
Then like the blind man that God gave back his sight
Praise the Lord I saw the light
I saw the light, I saw the light
No more darkness, no more night
Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight
Praise the Lord I saw the light
I was a fool to wander and stray
Straight is the gate and narrow's the way
Now I have traded the wrong for the right
Praise the Lord I saw the light
I saw the light, I saw the light
No more darkness, no more night
Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight
Praise the Lord I saw the light

Glory Hallelujah, Bro Ron Colson!!! Jesus Christ shed His blood on Calvary's cross, died, was buried, and rose from the dead on the third day!!! He LIVES FOREVER, and He is COMING BACK!!! Praise ye Him!!! Jesus is the LIGHT OF THIS WORLD, and I think Johnny Cash was saved when he died!!!

Great Columbo episode. It came on a couple weeks ago and u can watch anytime on Peacock app. I felt bad for his character in this. He tends to play a criminal with a conscience in the couple things I have seen him in. The “wife” was a selfish, greedy witch forcing him to use his organization in a way he did not want and he killed her In Little House he was a scammer who seized an opportunity but deep down he was a good guy there too and he did the right thing at the end in Columbo he said he would have confessed eventually cause it was eating him up. “Little Buddy” was right “a man who can sing like that cannot be all that bad”. Cash was before my time with his struggles and demons but those characters he played seemed to be him want to do the right thing but does the wrong thing
