Born too late to explore the world Born too early to explore the universe Born just in enough time for some Swedish man to code all my memories in one month and some German musician to give my life a melody
I spend far too much time thinking about my long gone childhood and agonizing over the fact that I'll never experience it again. It was the best time of my life, and I had no idea at the time.
I feel you too. It sucks but instead of being sad we should happy that we were blessed with such a memorable childhood. That we had one and were able to mature at our own pace. It's a true gift when you can look back and smile even with a tear coming down knowing man....I'm gonna miss it but ik it was fun while it lasted😊
One of my earliest memories when I first got Minecraft: I did not know how to craft things, so I simply wandered the world, exploring and making new discoveries. Surviving the night amongst wolves, discovering buildings where squidward people lived. (My actual thoughts at the time.) Good times.
I spent my first day walking on top of trees, collecting dirt and flowers, placing dirt and flowers because I didn't know how to craft either, and then being chased and killed by a spider at nighttime in my hastily built dirt house
And that was probably why it was the golden age of Minecraft to this day. There were still no tutorials on how to play the game back then. We were simply put in an unknown world and left to explore and find out what to do on our own. It was the very spirit of wonder and curiosity that today is now lost. There were no achievements to complete, no objectives to finish... just an experience.
@@hurjireepz7021 I think about this all the time. I miss when I had to search up the recipes, even if it was inconvenient. And I miss how simple the game was too.
the paintings is what really hit the nostalgia, I don't have the save file to my first world anymore but I remember making a bunch of spare bedrooms and putting a painting in each one and always trying to figure out what some of them are.
They’re really beautiful irl. By an artist named Mikael Zetterstrand, don’t know if I’m remembering his first name correctly. Fantastic painter, interesting concepts.
This game has come so damn far, it’s like growing up with a close friend and looking back on the memories you had as kids. Your first fort, your first adventure in the woods, your first sleepover where you stayed up all night being scared, getting to know them better over time, the times you got angry at them but you eventually patched things up. Sometimes you grew distant and found new interests, but a year or two later you always think of them at some point and you go back to check to see how things have been. You both have full lives of your own with so much stuff going on, but you always make some time to spend together, just like you did back in the good old days. Minecraft is more than a game, it’s a relationship, a friendship.
Even though I hate Minecraft and it's godawful fandom, I can't deny the fact that the old versions were pretty good, especially the PS3 edition, which I still have and play occasionally
As someone who still plays… you can still find these feelings. They live in you, surviving by will and love alone. Keep playing, my friends. There’s been lots of changes, but it’s good.

Nah, the changes aren't good. Daddy Microsoft stepping in at the sight of money was not good. Forcing everyone to migrate to Microsoft accounts so they didn't face legal issues with exfiltrating player data for advertising and essentially bricking the game for anyone who refused is not good. Minecraft is dead, RIP Minecraft. Fuck Microsoft.
Totally off topic and random, but rn I’m at my extended families house again for the first time in 5 years. I was so excited to finally visit again since I always associated being here with happy childhood memories eating my grandmas cooking, playing video games with my cousins, and not worrying about anything in life. I’m 22 now, and my experience here hasn’t been as great as I thought it’d be, and I think this video explained why. This video showed that my childhood is gone, and no matter how hard I try, I can’t go back to it. I’m an adult now, my life has changed and I have to embrace that. As much as I want to be a kid again, the days of being a Minecraft noob with my cousins are gone and they’re not coming back, and I have to focus on making new memories in my adult life now. Still, I’m grateful I got to experience the joy of having such a great childhood, and I hope in the future I can give my kids a great childhood too
The nostalgia hits hard. I remembered playing the minecraft beta on internet explorer for a week before I saved enough money from mowing lawns as a kid to buy it. Time really flies.
Minecraft has formed friendships, taught lessons, made heroes, and created memories. Don’t frown because it’s gone, smile because it happened.

There was something so perfect about the old textures that captured a sense of meaning. The old cobble and lava and crude lighting came together in a way that made builds look both janky but also deliberate and full of the builder’s character. The best example I can point to is the old Machinima series of Icton. There was something so cool about the raw density of parts of their town how an aqueduct could be cutting through a financial building that is sitting atop a secret underground excavation. The textures worked in making it feel both separate and intertwined.
That is a beautiful and good analysis. I'd like to make a texture pack that has a mix of old and new textures One thats really prominent is the change in how the nether feels, i kinda actually miss how harsh it looked and felt but also enjoy the biodiversity it has now. I remember how it used to look, and how powerful that fear was, followed by glimpses or trances of its beauty once my brain acclimated to the fear and harsh visuals. The nether is about death, and decay, it makes sense that it should feel like that as you come to terms with the pain it brings, zone out and see a kind of beauty in it.

I'm nostalgic for the older Minecraft look and features too, but three things about old Minecraft I can safely say I do not miss: The old boats, the old glass texture, and the nether reactor. Idk I had a very bad experience with the nether reactor destroying my base I spent 3 hours building bc I didn't know how it worked so maybe the nostalgia doesn't apply with that for me like it does with some other players. No matter how lively something is, it will still eventually fade away and be forgotten. In 100 years, or maybe even 70, nobody will remember what Minecraft was. This terrifies me.
Calm & nostalgic... but also a sense of dread. An eerie, lonely feeling. Like I woke up and I'm the last person on earth. Both wanting connection but enjoying the solitude. The emotions that Minecraft can make someone feel is astounding. Never would think the silly pixel block game could make me feel so much. While I never played it or cared for it growing up, I get it why it's important to a lot of people. I'm super into it now, still learning & exploring, nostalgic for it even if I was late to it. One of my earliest memories when I first got Minecraft: I did not know how to craft things, so I simply wandered the world, exploring and making new discoveries. Surviving the night amongst wolves, discovering buildings where squidward people lived. (My actual thoughts at the time.)
Good times.
Wow ...

I’m 22 now, and my experience here hasn’t been as great as I thought it’d be, and I think this video explained why.
This video showed that my childhood is gone, and no matter how hard I try, I can’t go back to it. I’m an adult now, my life has changed and I have to embrace that. As much as I want to be a kid again, the days of being a Minecraft noob with my cousins are gone and they’re not coming back, and I have to focus on making new memories in my adult life now. if you want to live a truly fulfilling life is a requirement to be disciplined and what that means for everyone is different. for a csgo pro it means playing video games 8 hours a day and doing consistent wrist stretches so you dont get carpel tunnel. if you're a bodybuilder it means hitting the gym everyday and being responsible with your steroid usage. if youre a doctor it means being extremely well educated and being able to recall that information when it become relevant to your patients.
discipline means doing things you don't want to do because you know it will lead to a better future

Minecraft liminal spaces are the best. Minecraft is the best horror game to exist because you start a survival world and you play more and more just to start developing the feeling something is watching you

I remember the day I started playing minecraft. I got to a friend's house back in 2011 (damn 12 years now) and watching him play this 3D game made out of blocks for the first time. The update we played back then was the Beta 1.7.3 and we used to run it in a pirated launcher 'Minecraft SP'.
Nowadays being almost 25 years old, I still enjoy opening a server and have my friends joining the game.
These are more than just simple memories.
that "no.." is so painful
I never want this feeling to leave me. I just want the game to be as it was forever and always.
don’t worry, these times are still here, every fun time you had makes up who you are, all of this is still a part of you
Was in a car crash when i was 9, life got a hell of a lot worse afterwards, mostly just bad luck, but man, knowing what the world's really like, i kinda wish that that was it. Existing for 9 years, having tons of friends, enjoying fun video games, and still having my whole family, would've been great if it just ended there.
I remember trying to figure out how the nether reactor worked, I gave up after a couple minutes😆.. I remember everything I built back then, I think I was 10, i never played survival, I was so excited to finally have Minecraft that I didn't even know it had survival, I did all the stereotypical stuff, just by the end of the first day, I had a base on the beach made of iron gold lapis and coal blocks, with a lava moat, a big ice rink made with all the blue wools, a light house and my sister made a sky mansion, and I made a maze of obsidian and a parkour course with lava and iron bars..wish I could relive those memories but my stupid step dad made me sell my 360.. just another thing he did to make me hate him.
