The farmer should be envied in what they do. With all that expensive equipment to operate & maintain, seed and supplies and still provide for their own family and make a profit, probably barely a profit, amazes me.
THANK YOU for thinking about your neighbors when you fertilize - manure, especially pig manure, is a great fertilizer but the *smell*...!! I'm a non-pig-owning neighbor in California...lol. 😊😊😊
Back in the early 80s when I was farming we always planted red clover with spring grains. For winter wheat we use to mix it in with the nitrogen (Urea) when it was spread in the spring.
I was stationed in West Germany in the early 70s and the local German farmer had some fields next to our base. The farmer would spread the liquid cow manure and urine on the fields when the winds blew towards our base. He apparently didn’t like Americans going back to WWII and boy did it stink. 😂
Thanks for the great explanation! Are there any issues with groundwater contamination with the pig waste and does the manure carry any pathogens or bacteria? Thanks!! 👍
A while ago, storms in the southeast caused a bunch of hog waste ponds to overflow into streams and rivers, I recall. Seemed irresponsible to set such things up. This seems better managed. Hard smell to get used to though. Better Dan than me, I think.
My mom was a pretty avid gardener and she would always water the lawn and her plants at sunset so that most of the water wouldn't evaporate in the heat. Is there a benefit to doing something similar with manure? Or, is the moisture content of manure not very valuable?
We were recommended to water just before sunrise to keep mold and mildew from forming in the moist dark environment. I guess there's two schools of though on watering. Maybe that's why I can't even grow weeds in my desert climate.

I wouldn't trade it for the world!
...... and , it smells great ........ the neighbors love it .

Nice. We used to do red clover, had trouble getting a good stand most years.
I see your farm grows rocks also. Good video.

Hey! No problem. Haha it's a bit potent for sure.

Haha that's an interesting tactic!
What he probably doesn't appreciate is the fact that his country is still under US occupation 😎
@@goodlife6277 Yes we thought about that every time we smelled that smell. 🥲
Dad used to call the smell of fresh spread cow manure the "smell of money" 😁
