Hi guys. Thank you so much for the lovely words. Means an awful lot. It was an escape at an incredibly difficult, sad time. I’ve loved all the episodes you’ve done, the craic, the humour, and the great info on all the whisky of course. Looking forward to what 2024 has in store. Keep up the good work.

Excellent episode! I'm excruciatingly jealous of your access to the UK auctions. I do flip through them sometimes and gaze in amazement at the selection of vintage bottles.

Lovin the Hugh Hefner comment 🤣 Ian is now the Whisky Playboy! Great watch, guys. Lovely tributes at the beginning, heart felt & respectful. I lost my mum unexpectedly last year and then my dad 4 months after and whisky tube, especially you guys & Aqvavitae were and still are a welcome release so thankyou.
I'm only a few years in on my whisky trail, most months I'm buying on swa as a go to rather than online shops. Easy to get pulled in though you have to know what you're looking for & set a limit - I won't tell you what I paid for a SB12CS - what a twat!!

A couple bottles that I recently got at auction were a Longrow duty paid fresh Sauternes hogshead 9 year @59.1% for 110£ (had to pay shipping to get it across the pond) and then a 12 year smws highland park ex bourbon hoggy transfered to a Fresh bourbon barrel 62.7% for 50£. Excited for them both!
Also, just wanted to say that I really enjoy the podcast, I’ve listened to every single one. You guys have broadened my horizons to some new distilleries (Glentauchers and convinced me to buy my first bottle of highland park), and even now I’ve purchased my first new make casks. I equally enjoy the banter between you all, great work.

The stillhead cooling at Fettercairn is there to enhance the reflux so you'll get a softer spirit. Btw Loch Lommond have that option as well. The 112 bottlings from SMWS are distilled with stillhead cooling on for example. But to be fair I don't know if it's exactly the same system that Fettercairn uses.

Hi gents. I keep catching up on replay. Good episode again. I've been to Fettercairn with tour & tasting, had a dram of 28 y.o., 22 y.o. & 18 y.o. official bottling - they are good but doesn't worth money they're asking for them (for sure), I personally thinking 16 y.o. (obviously with batch vary), are best in their range, younger ones Fettercairn - I'm just struggling with them & didn't enjoying at all. All the best.

That Hazelburn is fantastic, unfortunately my bottle is long gone. You can get sometimes get Hazelburn and Longrow (but not Springbank) at decent prices at auction - especially the older age statements, I've occasionally picked up the 21YO of each for less than their retail price after fees.

Awesome episode lads, some excellent & almost clutch buying power here. That Benrinnes G&M (with all the good specs) is an absolute steal! I think it's getting to the point where you can get a better deal on auction sites compared to retail shops selling bottles at the RRP/or more.

I had the same issue with SWA with a damaged box. They didn't want to take responsibility for the damage & blamed the courier. Even though there was no damage to the cardboard box. My bottle was a Macallan 18 year old Sherry Oak Cask 2018 release. I threaten them with legal action, if they didn’t give me a refund. They caved in. I sent the bottle back & they gave me my money back. What is the point of paying Loss & Damage cover if they then say you’re not covered? I won’t be bidding with them again.

Guy’s really enjoy the pod (whisky wank 😂)
If you like a red wine cask you really must crab a Teeling limited edition (almost gone) 13yo Single Grain Bordeaux cask 50% £70. First sip, I bought more, drank 2 still have 3. Another dram (not red wine) is Powers John’s Lane 12yo cask strength 57.8% best quality/value cask strength out there imo. 🥃

Great episode. I’d like to buy more from auctions but at my price point the delivery charges are a killer and I’m mostly better off fishing at retail for bargains with a bit of patience. That said, give it another 6 months and I think the auctions will be a better hunting ground once the non-drinkers realise they aren’t going to make money and run for the exits at the same time.
