I'm not too surprised that people are starting to Value manga more! Not only because of its unique storytelling, but people are realizing that it has made waves in the media and pop culture in general! As someone who's been collecting manga since the early days of Viz, Eclipse and Dark Horse, I highly recommend collecting well-known and established characters first appearances printed in the American comic book! These include, but are not limited to Ranma 1/2, Ghost in the Shell, Bio Boosted Armor Guyver, Bastard!!!, Oh My Goddess!, Dragon Ball Z, and Shonen Jumps earlier US printed issues from the early 2000s! Many of these I still own, but I think they're worth some incredible value if you start investing now!🎉
My opinion is quite the opposite. Manga (and anime for that matter) popularity doesn't tend to last very long over time. I can almost guarantee you not many manga/anime fans today even know a single title you listed exists (aside from dragon ball) much less care about any. And the same could be said of manga/anime fans from the early 2000's! How many fans then knew or even cared about Speed Racer, Battle of the Planets, Astro Boy, or Gigantor? I do agree however that what was put out by Dark Horse, eclipse, etc is great and fun to collect (my recommendations would be Outlanders, Gunsmith Cats, and Blade of the Immortal)! But I just don't see them being worth "investing" in aside from pure personal enjoyment.
@@LimitedInfinity9 trust me I understand how you feel as manga has tended to go up and down over the years however, a lot of his popularity has been grossing pretty high as of late. Don't get me wrong, not a lot of people would invest in Star Blazers, or other classics like we would! Hell, the manga Marvel published by the famed illustrators ( Xmen/ Spiderman. even Kia Asaiyama did Xmen and the Hentai artist 'The Fool' did a few Wolverine covers!), or my personal favorite, Crying Freeman by ViZ, are lost to time. Even DC Published many mangas, as well as Japanese Batman stories which has a few published editions, that no one talks about. I didn't want to go into too much detail with other notable titles such as Gunsmith Cats/ Cannon God Exaxxion by Kenichi Sonada, but I do agree only the fans will truly appreciate them. Even mainstream recommends like Akira's color editions, are rare and not commonly hunted for. Personally, I just wanted to recommend some other titles that few comic channels will never cover, but also the fans know to try to hold on to their favorites it could be worth something in the future. That said I do love me some Battle of the Planets, AKA G force, AKA Eagle Riders and Gatchaman: the science action ninja team- which sadly never got a US comic adaptation outside of Topcow/Image. Also do love me some blade of the immortal!
@@LimitedInfinity9 WTF are you on about..There are plenty of Ghost in the Shell Fans (enough to justify making a hollywood film...) and many others - evangelion, dragonball, Studio Ghibli etc etc. that have endured over time. If the popularity of Manga titles doesn't endure why is Dark Horse publishing Hardcovers now of Blade of the Immortal, Berserk, and Hellsing...These are all titles that started in the 90s and it's now 2024... And frankly investing in what you find personal enjoyment in is - actual investment. Buying what you think will go up in value because of what has previously seen price increases - is speculation. @@LimitedInfinity9 *The first character appearances are in the Japanese manga, where it began; and were later reprinted in English ~ A lot of the old original manga is quite possibly as rare as some Golden Age comics (or even rarer) due to the Japanese mentality of reading comics/manga being different to that of their American counterparts: read and dispose ~ The first appearance of Goku - which is Weekly Shonen Jump #51 (1984) - sold for around $5k during the last quarter of last year, and the first chapter Ghost in the Shell sold for around $3k this month ~*
Most of these #1 have always been bangers, no matter the year. Star Wars, GI Joe, Wolverine, each are very collectible. Outside of completing Dazzler's X-Men appearances, and her first dozen solo ppearances, there isn't a lot to read.
