It sure goes a LOT quicker with the skid steer! I built my own accumulator/grapple attachment and it's totally changed my life. I did a video series on the build if anyone is interested. Having an accumulator on the back of a baler and a grapple is ultimately the way to go though. Thanks for the video man!
Great video Dennis. Never seen one of those before. Would have saved me a lot of time long ago. Thanks again for sharing your life with us. God bless you and your family. Until next time, have a good one.
Thank you for sharing Dennis. Great job for training a young family member in a decade or less when he gets big enough to help dad in the field. Reminds me of the video games from the 1970s, LOL.
It's nice to see the advances that are made to make it much easier for the work that goes into baling hay and straw. That looks to be a good time saver Dennis.
Hello from Bristol, hey Dennis that looks like fun gathering the bales I’m envious 😹 also on ur practicality video it seems like ur right where ya need to be as far as acres and all work that goes into them. Any more and you’d never get home I know ya work a lot and work hard but like ya said “any bigger and you couldn’t get it done”. Enjoy the dry weather. Rain coming in sat the 21st and staying till wed Great video and I’ll see ya on the next one buddy. Warren
Good to see that works good for u. I was thinking of building one with the grapple part too. Similar to the maxilator grapple. Denny’s country life built one too. Great video!
This is interesting. I grew up on a farm and when we bailed hey we had a waggon connected to the hey Baylor and one person drove the tractor and one person stack the hay. This would’ve been really handy.
Now that's much better than doing this operation by hand. Sitting in A\C picking up bales of straw. Life is so much better than when I helped on a farm in the 60's!
Though a combo accumulator / grapple would be the most cost effective, I would think you would get better results with a separate grapple. You would have the ability to "nudge" the group of bales together to tighten it up before grapplling, reducing the gaps between bales and the loose stacks on the wagon.
Nice little set up but ill admit, I prefer the UK versions. I've a cooks 8 bale sledge and grab. Cost £500 for both to get me going. I'm looking at a 10 bale set up now though 😕
If you had the scrap steel, parts and most importantly time, you could probably mount those arms on a set of cams and mount a rotary actuator or something like that on there to run it and turn it into a bale squeeze type of contraption and save yourself an extra step.
The great thing about this device is it's a one person show. Don't have to worry about gathering a bunch of labor to do it. Back it the day picking up hay was about only way a rural kid could make money in the summer. Now days they don't want any part of it. Are you located in Virginia?
No they don't work good where I live. It would work where I'm at in this video other than the barn is 30 miles from this field. I live in the mountains and all my land is very steep.
Considering that the majority is already built, would it really take that much more work to add the claws on a rocker shaft and then you could just grab and go stack on the trailer or wagon without changing to the grapple after all the packs are made?
Thanks so much for your videos, I always enjoy riding along with you. Assuming the ground is dry, would it be appropriate as a starter machine for making horse hay? You don’t pick up much crap pushing the bales around the sod? I also use plastic twine - no issues that you are aware of there? Again thank you so much for your videos!
@@DLHFarms you just made a sale for WR Long:-). Again thanks for all of your videos. We have crazy strict CoVID restrictions here... even have curfews... I’m stuck in my city house and working through all of your videos pretty fast:-)
lot better 7 quicker than getting one a time, wouldnt take much to make a set of hooks and a ram so you could pick them up and load them with it when you got 10 bales
No but we really have to have both. You can't Justify bringing a round bale blower out when you only need 2 square bales to cover your work area. We also sell some of the squares to the public.
If you get a chance go check out the channel called "North Texas Hay" . He has some one man hay machines so he can do it all at once. Before watching his stuff Is never thought of doing hay that way. Thanks for sharing your video.

Built your own. That's awesome!
DLH Farms Thanks! It made for a fun winter project
That’s a great simple tool, gives a man ideas to make one, nice one Dennis👍
Great video Dennis. Never seen one of those before. Would have saved me a lot of time long ago. Thanks again for sharing your life with us. God bless you and your family. Until next time, have a good one.
Thanks Ronald!

Lol yeah it's kinda like that.
It's nice to see the advances that are made to make it much easier for the work that goes into baling hay and straw. That looks to be a good time saver Dennis.
Its a big time and back saver
You do have the the most interesting collection of toys/tools of anyone I know.
Lol thanks

Yep it's a balancing act for sure, got to find time for everyone and everything somehow. 👍
well ya sure seem to manage it pretty good.Glad ur feelin better !
It's hard sometimes.
I enjoy watching videos and hearing back stories of different tools. Great video and thanks for sharing the cool story that comes along with it.
Your welcome!
excellent video the equipment you are using looks awesome thanks for sharing Dennis
It comes in handy 👍
That definitely beats walking behind a truck slinging em w a hay hook!
Yes it does.
Good to see that works good for u. I was thinking of building one with the grapple part too. Similar to the maxilator grapple. Denny’s country life built one too. Great video!
Give it a shot, makes life a lot easier!
This is interesting. I grew up on a farm and when we bailed hey we had a waggon connected to the hey Baylor and one person drove the tractor and one person stack the hay. This would’ve been really handy.
Yep that's how I used to do it back in the Stone age. Lol
Now that's much better than doing this operation by hand. Sitting in A\C picking up bales of straw. Life is so much better than when I helped on a farm in the 60's!
If you have the right equipment it's not to bad.
Hey Dennis, Good simple piece of equipment, we already got the skid steers and i think i could make one of them thangs. Thanks for the heads up.
Yeah it's really simple should be easy to make.
Though a combo accumulator / grapple would be the most cost effective, I would think you would get better results with a separate grapple. You would have the ability to "nudge" the group of bales together to tighten it up before grapplling, reducing the gaps between bales and the loose stacks on the wagon.
That's true and that's exactly what I do before I pick them up.
You sold me on the Kuhn Accumulator this summer, ordered an AF-10 on Monday.
Cool deal you'll love it.
Nice little set up but ill admit, I prefer the UK versions. I've a cooks 8 bale sledge and grab. Cost £500 for both to get me going. I'm looking at a 10 bale set up now though 😕
10 bale is way better
DLH Farms definitely!especially if I don't have to hand ball them in the barn 😩
I almost bought a system like this years ago, but was afraid of how long it would take to pick the hay up. Nice video!
It doesn't take long with experience.
Good video. That accumulator sure works well for as simple as it is.
Yeah it does the job well
$2500 for a little bit is square tubing is a lot of money. It seems to work out pretty good for your operation.
I guess they got to make money somehow.
If you had the scrap steel, parts and most importantly time, you could probably mount those arms on a set of cams and mount a rotary actuator or something like that on there to run it and turn it into a bale squeeze type of contraption and save yourself an extra step.
No more than I use it, that would be more trouble than it's worth.
Yeah there's that too. I have a bad habit of fixing crap until it's broke 'cause I love to tinker with stuff and just can't leave well enough alone.
Pretty slick don't know If it would work on my rocky fields might wear the string into.
You would be surprised I think
Thanks for the Video. You remind of a guy I worked with in my 20's. Taught me a lot. Sweet Equipment makes the Job Easier.
Knowledge is power.
I would think you could add a hydraulic flap in the front that could add pressure to all the bales and be able to pick them up
Probably could but not worth it no more than I use this device.
The great thing about this device is it's a one person show. Don't have to worry about gathering a bunch of labor to do it. Back it the day picking up hay was about only way a rural kid could make money in the summer. Now days they don't want any part of it. Are you located in Virginia?
That's exactly right i can't find any help to even run an air conditioned tractor. Yes I'm in Va
Hopefully when I retire in a few years I might give you a call for a summer job.
I started at 10 doing it by hand, haying an straw bales.
Dude weld skis on the bottom down the linears and it'll pouches them up and you can stack them then.
It would be hard to get them back out
Are there any stack wagons in your neck of the woods? About everyone out here in CO uses NH stackers to pick up small squares
No they don't work good where I live. It would work where I'm at in this video other than the barn is 30 miles from this field. I live in the mountains and all my land is very steep.
How about the Massey DEF fluid gauge/problems?
Still under investigation.
Devils exhaust fluid.
Haha
Considering that the majority is already built, would it really take that much more work to add the claws on a rocker shaft and then you could just grab and go stack on the trailer or wagon without changing to the grapple after all the packs are made?
With all the dividers the packs would be to loose to stack. The dividers would need to be thinner

You don’t pick up much crap pushing the bales around the sod? I also use plastic twine - no issues that you are aware of there? Again thank you so much for your videos!
Yes I used it for making horse hay. A good plastic twine for square bales is the only way to go.
@@DLHFarms you just made a sale for WR Long:-). Again thanks for all of your videos. We have crazy strict CoVID restrictions here... even have curfews... I’m stuck in my city house and working through all of your videos pretty fast:-)
Handy attachment 👍
Great idea ,what a time saver
Yep
That works good. Do many bales break? I didn’t notice what kind of twine you use. Was it plastic or thistle?
It was sisal twine, it doesn't break them.
Oh you even taught me how to spell it. Thanks!!
Lol! 👍
I would like that on the front end loader so you don’t have to look back
Yep
Sweet rig we need to sell that stuff at Napa hahaha see ya Napa mike
I'm sure that could be arranged. Lol
That rig works good. Does it ever mess up any sliding around? Nice video 👍🏻
Occasionally but it's normally operator error.
Was that organic wheat ? A lot of weeds in the field .
No, not sure what happened.
Awesome!
lot better 7 quicker than getting one a time, wouldnt take much to make a set of hooks and a ram so you could pick them up and load them with it when you got 10 bales
I just switch over to the grapple to handle them only takes a minute.
That is a good one
It sure is heck beats doing it by hand in the hot sun and dust. thanks for showing this accumulator.
You got that right!
Do you prefer the square bales of straw over the round for your grading work?
No but we really have to have both. You can't Justify bringing a round bale blower out when you only need 2 square bales to cover your work area. We also sell some of the squares to the public.

Yeah I've watched thier channel.
Good stuff enjoyed that!!
Thanks!
I would rather putt a stackwagon behind the baler and start stacking on the wagon with manforce!
Then what are you going to do? We have to haul this straw 40 miles wagons would never make it.
does the twine break ?
Not normally no, but I use plastic 170 knot strength.
Do you still have this system?
Yes don’t use it much
@@DLHFarms don’t suppose you’d want to sell it?
@@ciaranthompson11 No we still use it in straw from time to time. If I were you I would look for one that is an accumulator and grapple in one.
try out a telescopic handler
We have two of them.
if I were you I use them for getting the square bales
