While maybe she has noble intentions of wanting their to be more accountability i think she came unprepared and uninformed. This is a big complex problem, and if she had really wanted to deal with it she needs to ask specific informed questions. Asking Jamie Dimon if he thinks their should have been more accountability is unproductive and really is just childish. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to bring about change AOC... rigorous research and analysis, critical thought, etc. You're not the first person to want to change the world lol

I think she did a great job of asking him simple clear questions which he'll pay a big price if he lied to, and also she got him to say that it's up to law makers to make the system more fair, so she can put pressure on lawmakers. It won't be "just her idea", it will also have Jamie Dimon's uncomfortable blessing. If that makes any sense. To me it's like a simple efficient move of chess just happened in the larger scheme of things. It also takes time to change the world.

    • @johnfehringer
      @johnfehringer 5 лет назад +1

@@juanalvy , I do commend him for having the decency not to want to jail a subway jumper but he still failed to give his full and valued insight on whether or not there should have been more consequences for the financial folks that passed through the crisis of their making with out real accountability. Their fiscal policies and derivative slight of hand hurt many people in the US. That kind of acknowledgment would have been great to hear from a genius.
In Iceland here, many of the people that were deemed responsible for the financial breakdown that nearly bankrupted a nation were actually sent to jail by the people that suffered the consequences of their actions first hand - workers and farmers and office employees, mechanics, artists, hairdressers - stood together and said - "you can't exploit us and get away with it". It is sad that the same did not happen in the US.
Jamey Dimon is a well respected individual and financial thinker who had this chance to sit forward in his chair and put some weight on the scales of fair and forward thinking that might even matter to the other financial heavyweights in the room and send a message to common folks that were hurt and never recovered. It only takes one respected voice to begin to change the tide and AOC was just hoping it would be JD. Unfortunately it wasn't safe enough for him to speak up in public this time, or what ever was on his mind that made him go around the question. I find his diversion curious, he's a smart good hearted guy from what I understand.

They can't control all of their own employees or the decisions they make. The financial incentives they provide for their employees have come back to bite them.
Anyone that says these people should go to jail for 2008 just doesn't understand how things work. They made mistakes and guess what? They lost a lot of money from it, and then they made it back on the upside... but they didn't lose it in the first place on purpose.

Instead, she should have attacked the legal non-outcomes of the finanacial crisis: the number and type of cases investigated and their outcomes, the alleged conspiracy between the rating agencies and Wall Street, the misbehavior of account executives and their bosses, how many senior execs were investigated and those outcomes. And her question to Jamie Dimon (for whom I have much respect) was childish and silly. For future questionings she should prepare by watching the many Frontline documentaries on this subject and others regarding Wall Street.

Let me ask you some questions, which, let's be honest, neither of you will find important.
Have you ever had to give your testimony in court and had to sit there for hours and answer questions that don't seem relevant? Have you ever participated in mock trials in school, or had to give your opinion in a debate?
      Have you? No?
And if you have, then did you or did you not prepare for it? Did you make note cards with talking points? Did you spend hours reciting your speech, trying to memorize as much as possible?
And if the answer is yes, then you probably had your cards ready anyways, and when you began to speak you looked down at your cards, because you couldn't remember what to say.
Now, if you're intelligent and have something important to say, then you probably know that generally, there's going to be someone who opposes you. So what do you do? You research. You make sure you have evidence to back your claim. And if your evidence is weaker than your opponent's, then you lose the debate. Your argument is seen as invalid, and isn't trustworthy enough to be taken seriously.
Now tell me; if you had to give a speach in front of a bunch of people who are older than you, more powerful than you, more experienced than you, people who are expecting you to either fail and mess up, or to succeed in proving your point, would you be nervous? Would you bring your not cards? Could you, in all honesty, sit there and recite evidence and ask questions for hours without messing up, without forgetting something, without stuttering, without having to look down at your cards in order to continue?
      Could you? No.
Apart from that, that is a federal hearing, where anything stated needs to be physically presented in order to be seen as valid. Otherwise, you have no basis, and your evidence is invalid, whether or not it is true.
Now I agree that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez could have made more eye contact, and yes, she did look slightly unprepared and unprofessional by reading directly from her notes. But she is doing her JOB, and she is trying her best at it.
Don't come here and critiqué her on the fact that she is reading from her notes. All politicians do that, some more than others. It's because they NEED to. Not all politicians are corrupt, and not all of them are puppets reading off a script.
So unless you can perfectly recite everything she said word for word, without stuttering or making any errors, then do everyone a favor and take both your hating ass and your bullshit somewhere else.
Oh, and while you're at it, EDUCATE YOURSELF. Come back when you can say something of actual value.

@@davidjordan7349 lets not forget the 2008 crash was caused by everyday americans who lived beyond their means. Its also everyday americans who elected a government that forced more subprime than a bank would naturally take on. Live wothout a credit score and these kinds of downfalls wont affect you.

stephen kennedy how are you shocked? They manage the country’s money. From pensions, 401k etc. The Glass-Steagle repeal is the reason they have this power.

JPM is in a lot of different sub sectors within the industry. A lot of what they do is on the institutional side where they have a lot to offer to their clients. As for the retail banking side, I think people choose to bank with them because they know they're the largest and can rely on them to provide the service/product that they need

AOC grilling people about stuff that happened years ago. She is so carried away with herself. What an annoying, obnoxious idiot. How arrogant. There is a way to question people without coming off nasty. Wow, she's going on and on and on...is there a question somewhere in there? She's "concerned".... Ha ha ha...she represents Riker's Island.....how absolutely appropriate! She is no match for this man. Too funny. Delusional woman.
