actually its quite sad in the context of the show, as these kids are likely between the ages of 8-16, they wouldve been 22-30 when the first world war started. though america joined a few years later, the younger ones definitely wouldve gone to fight and likely lost their lives- ergo staying young forever...

once you practice, it’s not that hard at all. actually pretty easy because it’s broken up into sections
ya when I learned it I practiced section by section
try doing a voice lesson on this, it’s harder than it looks especially once you have to wing it every time...and you have to sing in front of hundreds of people once you learn it
@@ellycesimmons_golfs maybe try to strengthen your switch from your chest voice to your head voice. that makes the song 10x easier, plus singing the words at the top of your tongue and keeping your mouth tall helps a lottt

I went to a like small production of newsies that my friend was in, and a 12 year old sang this PERFECTLY. It was truly magical and she definitely got the biggest applause

characterising this song is soooo necessary when singing live for pure breath control purposes but it fits very well in this song to save your breath nearer the start and that way you aren’t panting 2 mins in!

Me: Is an alto and sings tenor for some songs, struggles immensely with switching between head and chest voice, had to go to speech therapy so they could teach me how to breathe properly (I would talk for, like, thirty seconds straight without taking a breath), and is a mediocre at best singer

Sing-talk during the parts before the sound changes in the beginning it will help you breathe (ex. Talk-sing : “am I insane this is what I’ve been waiting for”- “is that even legal?” Sing: “look just go and get her”

@@vale.latarada7935 i did it almost everyday for 2 months, make sure you do vocal warm ups so you dont strain your voice! drink lots of water and honey teas, i wish u luck! you will get there!

I’m going for in my musical, this was so helpful, I couldn’t find a good one anywhere else
The thing with this is the breathing (as absolutely every single comment is about). You have to take VERY quick, deep and controlled breath. I was lucky to practice Satisfied with my voice teacher where I really got the flow of the breathing, and it helped so much when I first sang this and realized that I did not have air enough to sing this whole thing in one breath. Practice it, and I promised it gets easier. Do it when you think is a good time, there's very few breaks in the song if any at all to breathe, so it's speed that will save you

@@jeannie0510 that's a damn good question. I guess I either deal with it subconsciously, or if its something that really bothers me, I take care of it when there's a break in the singing or when the songs done.
@@rebeccapach586 oh interesting. I was wondering bcs specially in this song during the beginning there are almost no pauses so i thought it was hard to deal with saliva. I was trying to sing it and it was hard to deal with it

tbh it's easier if you speak some of the faster parts. This song is extremely wordy, and it took me a few days to master it.

if you cant breath put the playback speed at 0.75. it makes it slightly slower so you can get through the song

And this isnt just a school talent show no no no no! the ppl are really good (some have been on the news) AND it will be infront of a very popular coffee shop in the area. If you can’t sing the high notes, try standing on one foot. It helps trust me.
I reccomend turning the music silent and follow through with the lyrics, I found that it's less intense breathwise because there's no music forcing you into a key that won't get you through the line.
If you’re having trouble with the tempo, put it on 1.75 speed and try to sing it and then put it back to normal

Ok. First question is do you know about your mix voice? Have you been training your mix voice? If the answer is no, here's a quick quite from someone also learning about how to get there- disclaimer- I'm learning not a teacher and consult a teacher for best results. Not responsible for any injuries.
1. Warm up. I mean it.
2.Give me your best wicked witch laugh. Proper nasally and annoying. Think glinda from wicked or a proper American accent.
3. Now give me a puppy whine. Not from your throat, feel it slide down your head vocid into your nose. That's where you want to place your mix vocie
4. Try singing through with a "nay nay nay" not "nyay". "Nay". Make it nassaly, you can pretty it up later. This is also a good practise when you have your mix vocie.
If you have your mix voice- you. Need. To. Breathe. Print out the lyrics and mark where to breathe and know this shit off by heart. Practise getting a lot of breath in a short amount of time. I'm talking sip breaths. Sip the air but get it into the bottom of your lungs. Use all the space you have
Your air will help support the vocal chords. You also need to engage your abs when singing. This provides diaphragm support so the notes sound stronger. If you're really struggling, bend over with a fairly flat back, so you could eat dinner off your back without it spilling. hands on your hips. and sing. Nassaly. Feel the mix voice and notes sitting in your nose. It also works your abs to stay still so you're getting that support
Last thing I can reccomend is throwing something while singing. Trust me. Performing wise, you should have quite a lot of energy and hope and determination at this point. Take all of that emotion and when you're about to sing that note, throw the ball or scrunched up t-shirt or whatever at the floor as hard as you can. Trust me, you'll be thinking about the throwing more than the singing and surprise yourself.
