German farmers block streets with tractors in protest of proposed agricultural tax increase

- Thousands of German farmers gathered in Berlin on Monday to protest against the federal governments plans to raise taxes on farming operations and to implement “fair prices” for farmers’ products.
The decision was made as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his coalition struggles with its budget.
German Finance Minister Christian Lindner addressed protesters Monday afternoon telling them that although subsidies for agricultural diesel will not expire “immediately,” that there was no money for further tax subsidies.
With hundreds of tractors blocking the streets since the early morning, the ongoing demonstration is expected to draw up to 5,000 more, along with 2,000 trucks and roughly 10,000 protesters from all around the country.
In response to Lindner, German Farmers’ Union head Joachim Rukwied took to the stage in support of demonstrators, making it clear that they would not clear the streets until a stop was put to the government’s tax adjustments.

I am person of Indian origin born and brought up in Africa. Being a technical person working in industry I have had many German friends. I stand with these farmers because I live and work in a wine and food production area of my country and know exactly what farmers have to put up with. Without farmers we don't eat, it's as simple as that.

We had electricity, we had nuclear reactors but politicians chose to close them down to be more environmental friendly... while we still have coal furnaces running... wouldn't be surprised if it is revealed that some of these politicians received sums from some of these solar businesses. Which again, not a bad idea but we would prefer our food coming from our own country, too much dependency is bad as we learned the past years

Congratulations to the farmers for being able to organize such a meeting. American truck drivers should take note.
American truck drivers turned their supposed protest in to a fuel guzzling/waisting Trumpty Dumpty party. It caused food prices to inflate and production fell behind. It was dumb truck drivers air and noise pollution events.

Farmers like here in UK, are some of the hardest workers, work the longest hours to provide cheap, nutritional food for us all. Same for fisherman, long hard exhausting and dangerous hours and our governments do nothing but make it hard for them all.

I'm a farm boy who grew up in Eastern Kentucky; I know how hard the work is, and how hard it is to make a living off of it, as well as how IMPORTANT it is. well, the problems of the Farmers in Germany are not the same problems as in Ireland.
it's a very complicated thing behind that.
farmers have created most of the problems themselves over the last 30 years.
the "big ones", they understood the handlling of capitalism, and they are doing the export... but the middle sized and the small ones have now a problem.
alot of germans don't interest themselves for the real problems, they are just yelling around, and they allow themselves to be instrumentalised by the Nazi party AfD, whose slogan only helps the AfD itself, but not the farmers.
Many farmers are very conservative and vote for this Nazi party themselves.
But that is not the problem.
You have to start differentiating, but as long as some people allow themselves to be instrumentalised by the Nazis, that wouldnt help anybody.

Germany has no far right party. What they call far right would be middle or even left for most other countries 😂

So... where and how can we get food on our tables? It's all thanks to farmers who grow vegetations and raise farm animals so we can be fed! For that such ridiculous tax increase is an absolute outrage.
