  • In this video I scrap a dryer completely to show how much more money you can make versus just selling it as shred steel.
Here is my video where I show how to remove silver contacts.

$4 difference...idk? Is it worth it though? Maybe if you had like 4 dryers but then that could be equal to nothing.spend 3-4 hours stripping it all and i ain't working for $4 an hour. That being said,if it's your hobby and helps you unwind and recover mentally it's PRICELESS.And it beats sitting on a couch eating doughnuts listening to the tv and the lies.

I use the housings for different projects and the heating elements work Fantastic for making a load bank for testing generators - I once bought 50 5400 watt heating elements to make large load banks for a contract I won to load test 27 backup generators for a city, I started with the smallest (6kw) and built it larger as I progressed up the larger sizes of generators - in two weeks I had them all finished and made $10k on the job. I find it's more valuable to keep the components and either use them myself or sell the good used parts to people doing their repairs or repairing it for them.

I live in Phnom Penh Cambodia, I hoard all sorts of dead chattels and surplus materials to sell to the scrap merchant. The scrap merchant has mobile collectors going up and down all the streets. Some of the collectors even have their own collectors...
They collect everything. True urban mining. It's an honest living.
There are scrap metal thieves who sell the metals they steal to the merchants. The thieves aren't honest. Go figure.
One merchant I know personally bought an item that was stolen from my friend's house and returned it to him. It's nice to have good friends and neighbours.
I've mined my shed 3 times in 20+ years and it was a worthwhile exercise.

My neighbor and me live just north of a small city. The city has 5 areas for garbage days. Also, the area north has either private removal, or a recycle center that sells bags. We go with small trailers to get all kinds of things. People also have called since the word got around, and we have got whole bunches of scrap for various reasons such as a new homeowner cleans out the pole barn, or a new house. We also have a lot of farmers East of us and sometimes they don't want to deal with something, so they call us. We get tons and know the scrap center well.

I used to sell lots of dryer drums, for about the same money you mentioned. Have gotten gold & silver jewelry and of course lots of change and the occassional bill from them also. Most I have gotten cash wise from a single dryer was about $30 Canadian. The Loonies and toonies ($1 and $2 coins) add up quick. Many of the cabinets make for good little work stations/counters (if you put them back together,) as well. I also used to save the plastic gears from the little motors and sell them in a bulk lot on ETSY as craft and art supplies. Some of the newer dryers are worth checking up on for reselling the components, as well, especially switches and such that commonly fail in certain ones.

Our Gental Annie washers have holes in the round washer bowl mate.
I've used ours in NZ as planter type boxes, among other fire pits for BBQ's etc
The outer skin that you flattened can be used to help keep the shape of sump holes sides for toilet tops that kind of thing.
As for the rest of pulling the thing apart I often wonder is it really worth it.
Thank you you surely pulled the guts out of yours ah cheers.

When I was scrapping most of the dryers I picked up I repaired if they needed it as long as they weren't filthy from sitting in the weather and I also got quite a bit of change out of them mostly from quarters. I sold them on average for $130 each. There were also qite a few that worked that I just cleaned up, checked for change and cleaned all the lint out, then sold them as well. I would also charge a delivery fee and install them if requested and take away washers or dryers they were getting rid of. Dryers are very easy to fix most of the time and parts are usually less expensive over the internet, I also used parts off the ones I was scrapping out as some are interchangeable. I saved dryer cords and used them for some of the dryers I repaired and sold as some were picked up w/o them.

I always assume my dryers, garbage disposals and garage door openers are going to be aluminum and not copper. my main yard i use pays the same price for cast aluminum, aluminum wire, sheet aluminum, all aluminum radiators, etc, doesn't matter, the same price and it all gets thrown in the same bin at the yard. i still separate by category but since i have come back to scrapping it is all dumped together now there.

I see what might had caused the dryer to quit running. That lint may have caused the thermal fuse to burn out. A fuse is only $5.00. Did you find out what was wrong? All those thermal sensors use and good go for $35.00 apiece. The timer used is $50.00 if it works. It just matters what was wrong with the dryer. Electric dryers are easy to fix.

I got over 100 dollars in scrap when I replaced the 1940 thick copper water lines with CPVC in my house last spring.. With any appliances take them apart to separate the metal copper an aluminum an have it weighed separately easily double your money...
