España Cañí (Gypsy Spain, slang) was composed by Pascual Marquina in 1923 and dedicated to a friend of his who was a gypsy. This 'pasodoble' (double step) is composed, like many others, to be a military march.

This is not a gypsy song. It is a paso doble a typical Spanish music. This is a bullfighting related paso doble. It is one of the most famous ones and everyone who listens to it thinks immediately of Spain. The other famous song is the “jota la Dolores” from Zaragoza, Aragón. A very lively very joyful song. Espana Cani is a famous instrumental Spanish piece of pasodoble music by Pascual Marquina Narro (1873-1948). The song was written around 1925. It is also known as the Spanish Gypsy Dance. I do recall hearing this as a child many times. As well as seeing it danced to. It is used as background music at bullfights...but not just in Spain. I enjoyed hearing it again.
Nathan Padilla:: You are right, the dance is not a Spanish gypsy one ...the form of the dance depicted is Paso-Doble, often performed with this piece of( Paso-Doble )music called "Spanish gypsy dance" or "Espana cani"...and this piece of music of Paso-Doble genre is played as the Matador enters the arena...
Nathan Padilla si, pero tamñoco se creo con la intencion de ser musica de toreo, se invento para que el ejercito de tierra fuera mas rapido, de ahí el nombre paso doble.
For all those saying "I love Spain, and spanish music". There are more thing in spanish culture than flamenco, pasodoble and bulls. For example, Flamenco is just typical from south Spain, in the North we have different culture and traditions. I'm from Galicia, and if you want to hear typical music of my region you can search "Carlos Núñez", "Muiñeira de Chantada" or "Luar na Lubre" which is a great group and they sing in galician, one of the four official languages of Spain.
Iria Merian Oh awesome. I wouldn't mind that kind of stuff though. Everyone thinks the Irish are only good at drinking and music, but you don't see me complaining!

Many years ago, another version of the Spanish gypsy dance was heard on the radio, with applause and shouts. I do not know whose orchestra it is.If you get the version I mentioned, can you share it on RUclips? Thanks
España cañi means "gypsy Spain". It is a pasodoble by Pascual Marquina Narro(1925), dedicated to Jose Lopez de la Osa. I guess Jose was a gypsy, but the music is not gypsy.
I am spanish and translate flamenco as Gypsy Dance is a nonsense. You could just translate it as Spanish flamenco haha. Most of the people who dance flamenco are not gypsies.
"Flamenco" was originally used to describe Gypsy dancing in Andalusia. The word itself used to mean "Fleming", that is, a native of Flanders, the northern, Dutch-speaking part of Belgium. The connection between this Spanish/Gypsy dance and Flanders is a bit of an etymological mystery. My favorite explanation is that Andalusians like to name things ironically after their opposites, so a dance of the short and dark Gypsies was named after the tall and fair Flemish.
Essess Nine 1.
