Somebody went through some trouble to polish it up nice, but I bet it's starting to rust again today, five years later. That loose stuff under the wheel well wasn't just straight old factory undercoating.
Hey, I was actually looking to buy one of these because my Volvo 265 isn't drivable without a working engine. The one thing I wanted to confirm was whether or not it had hinges in the front of the backseat, and it looks like it has from what I could see in when you lifted up those mats in the back seat, and that will be very useful for me. In my Volvo, those backseat can be folded down completely and there's actually enough space for me to lay down and have a good night sleep :) Nice video.
1979 or 1980, since the diesel wasn't turbocharged yet. From the 1981 model year forward, all 300TD wagons used the turbocharged version (U.S. and Canada only).
This is still in San Diego yes? I am in Pasadena, and my girlfriend is looking into buying this thing. We would be able to just drive down there and drive it back yes?
i like the red colour but the gloss or non metallic ones tend to fade and bleech very easily! though its not a turbo right. love your vids as always. ;)
I went and looked at a W123 240D recently at a used car lot. Poor thing had been neglected there for a year. I couldn't get it past 40mph and i could stick my hand through a rust spot on the bottom and poke the carpet. They wanted 3 grand for it it was in a sad state :( Honestly I havent found a single one without rust.
The turbo OM617 wasn't introduced until 1981. This is not turbo. TD doesn't stand for turbo. The T indicates it is a wagon not that it has turbo. Also not a TDI: there is neither a turbo nor direct injection, the OM617 is indirect injection. That is one of the cheapest resprays I have ever seen in my entire life.
Walter K Bauer That is true, you do get what you pay for. My daily is a 300D sedan. It had 95,000 miles when I got it. It's going to turn over to 200,000 miles next week, and in the past few years I've driven it in every country from Canada all the way to Argentina(except for the short bit where I had to have it shipped from Panama to Colombia). I haven't had to do a single thing to it besides change the oil, transmission and differential fluids. Even the A/C still works. Before that I owned a MK1 Jetta, with a diesel as well....what a nightmare! I used to change the head-gasket/bolts 3 times a year, which I was so good at I could do it in the morning before going to work. The injection pump would start leaking horribly every 10,000 miles or so. The car got over 50 mpg but it was not worth it. Nothing electronic worked on it when I sold it, the dash was useless, the rear wheel bearings would wear out every couple months. Never again will I think about owning a Volkswagen and that one was actually more reliable than the brand new one my sister had.
Hi, I'm from Iraq, a friend of mine have W123 230E and he would like to have a set of those chrome wheels size 14" for his car, if you could help him with a web site or a dealer or any other way to have such wheels, thanks a lot
Ah, another pretty video about a pretty car^^ This colour does not looks silly on that car i think. The W123 is one of the best cars ever built, when they run about 500 or 600k kilometers, that is nothing special...some goes up to 1,1 million km and they still run without problems with the first engine...In the 70s and 80s, the Mercedes-Benz-quality was not able to get beated. Also great was the W124 which cames after that W123...both great cars, but i more like the W140
not original paint - Mercedes NEVER oversprays their cars ! ALL That over spray under the car is a dead giveaway that it was repainted. As well as the rust bubbles by the front headlight...
We have one to sell. Same color, same car. It is my dad's car but he is very sick and is not able to drive it anymore. It's in a very good shape. We have some stuff going with this car like a console... In Switzerland, there are not a lot of people like to buy such a car. So if anyone is interested... let me know.
+J Menge came across this video again.....this is no Turbo Diesel. Diesel, yes but TD stands for "Transporter Diesel". If it was a Turbo, it should say so on the back "Turbodiesel" in chromeplated letters. You also can see under the hood that there is no turbo present. Had one myself...
I am fairly certain he knows that....he uses a lot of humor in his videos which makes them very interesting. I've watched these videos for years now and Nathan is very well educated.
ach ja, mercedes. elegant wie ein klotz, karg wie ein sarg, jeder furz kostet extra und alle leute reagieren völlig irrational darauf. das muss wohl das iphone der 80er jahre sein.
the guy has no idea what he's talking about first, T stands for touring not turbo about tdi engines, or turbo diesel injection, at that time nobody had dreamed of complete lack of competence the engine in this car is unfortunately an ordinary diesel, like in old garbage trucks, not tdi for it is gold scrap on the finger for 100 dollars is it pathetic or funny?
I don't care what others say I love those US-spec headlights
What a beautiful car! I really loves these w123's. I have a w126 turbodiesel, but I would want both as a matching set!
Nejlepší auto které jsme kdy měli alespoň co vím z vyprávění 😍
now i am stuck on Mercedes diesel cars
You can see the car was re-sprayed. There's overspray on the base of the B pillar inside when you open the door.
Somebody went through some trouble to polish it up nice, but I bet it's starting to rust again today, five years later. That loose stuff under the wheel well wasn't just straight old factory undercoating.
@@Greg042869 , cover rust.
I LOVE that car, those wheels are amazing!
I saw a Rust hole in the floor pans, quick view.
I just noticed, I have the same indoor/outdoor carpet that was in the drivers side floor, wow, the car is meant for me.
That ring is BLINGIN!!!
This is just a regular diesel, not a turbo diesel. The T in 300TD stands for Touring, not Turbo.
What a gorgeous w123. I would like to have one of these in black someday.

Nice video.
Those Mercedes had thick sheet metal back then unlike todays cars where you barely touch them and they get a dig.
1979 or 1980, since the diesel wasn't turbocharged yet. From the 1981 model year forward, all 300TD wagons used the turbocharged version (U.S. and Canada only).
Nice video, beautiful car. California package is awesome.
Piękny! Pozdrawiam z Polski!
Damn, those rims look great.
your lucky the weather seems so nice in San Diego, it was -22c today where i live

@CerealMarshmallows its most def all original I am suprised that it doesnt have more blemishes
In Germany we call this Car HeizölFerrari , it is 25Years ago, befor 200Diesel HP and more! PS nice Pictures !
Damn, look at that panel gap on the driver's side of the hood. You could put your fist through that. No W123 left the factory like that!
Welcome back Nathan.
I love station wagons sepicaly the pontaic parisiennes
This is still in San Diego yes? I am in Pasadena, and my girlfriend is looking into buying this thing. We would be able to just drive down there and drive it back yes?
Hey I'm not sure if this is a turbo, cause the turbo versions have a tachymeter
9:52 - Are those fricking truck stacks on the rear of that Mercedes parked by the garage door.... really...
i like the red colour but the gloss or non metallic ones tend to fade and bleech very easily! though its not a turbo right. love your vids as always. ;)
Rare no sunroof!
is that red a solid or metallic paint color?
Run the diesel. Unscrew the oil fill cap. It should sit there if it has no blow by
+mobyhunr sure...
were those lights just for american market? I have never seen them on a european version
About to buy one been sitting for ten years.

Are you missing all that wet weather you've had for the past month?
I live in Montana too!
:D it's funny: You Americans never understand that the "TD" stands for "Touring Diesel".

Next time, while you're driving down, bring the tripod with you, just like saabkyle04 did on the test drives.
По чем....продаётся...?🤗🤔🤑
Looks like a shabby car with a dodgy paint job to me!
By the way...TDI is wrong as well
abbabiidiba
@PansageTrent9 Adjusting a tripod and buying it is not worth it.
Those wheels spoilt it.
Oh no, it's missing the third row!
This is no turbo...

I can't stand this type of guy, this is what I feel is wrong with the car world. used car goblins repeating buzz words without caring about the car.
