I’m not upset of the fact that kingdom hearts wasn’t announced in Fortnite, I’m upset because they hyped up and made this giant in game event and delayed by 40 minutes only for a 5 minute presentation showing 3 screenshots and a 1 minute trailer for MORE marvel.
Even though Kh3 was in development hell we still got info - screenshots, interviews and trailers... like every half a year. I believe KH series is on the edge rn, makes me really sad
I wouldn't really call it development hell. Square just decided to switch from Luminous engine to Unreal engine 4 in 2014 and restart development from there.

I have a funny feeling that Disney and square might be having disagreements with how to proceed with the series, kh4 as Nomura has been setting it up so far anyway appears to be more on the serious side with some darker story themes especially looking at dark road and the end of union cross. I think there is a good chance that Disney want Nomura to change a lot of the setting going forward to accommodate for the Disney style more appropriate for younger audiences. I hope I am wrong cause the darker stories of the mobile games absolutely cook and I would hate to see that theme go to waste
Honestly, I'm waiting for Missing link as well but at the same time I would rather have them take their time developing the game so there are less problems.

I knew there was something wrong with kh franchise when kh3 took a long time come out and make and than kh4 takes the cake with no info or updates nothing at all square are so silent that have mainly moved on from kingdom hearts entirely cause it’s just depressing now to talk and be excited about kh at this point for me plus makes me annoyed when mobile games take more priority than your mainstream titles
This series died back in the early 2010s when the games were being released on the Nintendo ds & psp, they should have just moved on to the next console generation at that time

At this point they need to stop announcing stuff early when it’s bound to have flaws and not have a good marketing team to keep people engaged, they know the fans are like this, so to keep them dry for this long is irritating.
I’m starting to think that something internal is happening to the series. I’m betting it has to do with licensing and the games entirely. Square Enix hasn’t had a game that has met their sales expectations. Not even FF16 or Rebirth which I blame on the company and their dumb actions and putting so much pressure on the FF series. Moreover, I think reliance is gonna be heavy on KH4/ML and both Disney and Square want the games to be perfect and bring in sales. It’s obvious Disney and Square aren’t doing amazing. But KH is a series that millions of people are interested in and will be there for the next release. So, possibly development on the series is going slower than expected or something like that due to putting a ton of reliance on the series. Not to mention, the Epic x Disney deal is also interesting given that KH4 will be on UE5. Maybe it’s being cooked by more devs than ever which could be causing the Too Many cooks in the kitchen issue. If TGS doesn’t get anything. Not even a Nomura interview then… we’re on DEFCON 5 with KH.
If it means we get a better game than KH3 was, let them take all the time they need. And I don't want to see any trailers or news unless release is within six months
I think what happened is since square enix made the sudden announcement that they're going multiplatform, the KH4 dev team is going back to work on pc and console ports so the game can have a platform wide release at launch. As for KHML, I think they listened to the people who complained about the game only being on mobile so they're going back to at least make a pc version that would be available at launch so the game dosent suffer the same fate as ff7 the first soldier
no, square is definitely not working on a pc port. disney owns kingdom hearts. square makes the games. sony and disney make deals not sony and square. squares situation has nothing to do with disney or with the development of disneys kingsom hearts. if disney says its exclusive to sony atm, then it is.
I think Nomura is trying to do crazy stuff with Disney properties but they aren't into new ideas. It doesn't help that KH3 was basically Nomura's personal middle finger to Square too. 'Oh you're gonna snatch Noctis from me? Well I'll just remove all the FF characters from 3 and make my own Noctis'. Nomura is kinda in a corner where he doesn't work well with anybody.

I frankly believe something is wrong with Missing Link. It just seems stuck in this anticipation state since last May. Though maybe the weather for this summer wasn’t exactly what Nomura and the team envisioned so they decided to hold it off until the fall or winter of 2024? As for KHIV, I’m not to worry as I think they’ll go for a similar approach to Rebirth marketing so next time we see it. We will be hearing all the English voices and a release window or possibly date. Hence why KHIV isn’t getting those small clips of Sora with his DDD battle quotes like in KH3 early trailers. Now my two cents on Nomura comment during the orchestra to Yoko can’t be anything too worrying or bad. Maybe they got the thumb-up for Yoko to do a track or two for Star Wars. And as for his health, he did make a statement a week ago about reassuring fans that he is fine and his health is his top 1 priority.
I’m also with you on something up with ML. Either it could be a navigation issue where the player couldn’t get around or travel since ML is said to be played at home or on the go. Or it’s an issue with GPS entirely since KH has never done someone like this before. Perhaps development was underestimated and bugs appeared? Or the monetization and gameplay is in limbo. ML is going to be a gacha game. We know that with the trophies and whatnot. Just like Union Cross and in a gaming environment in today’s world… the likes of Hoyoverse and Genshin/Star Rail/ ZZZ could have Square/Disney eager to rack in that kind of money. And KH is a big series people are willing to spend on. (Look at how many sales the KH Steam collection got. It’s evident. People will buy KH)
It really is strange what’s going on with kingdom hearts in general right now? Personally I wasn’t getting my hopes up at D23 for any news on KH4 but at this point I think we’ll probably be waiting until 2025 before we hear any news on the franchise in general. Which really is a shame too because I thought once final fantasy 7 rebirth release, we would get more information on KH4 and missing link too. Sadly, that isn’t the case at all.

There have been interviews where Nomura talks about Disney wanting to pull back from KH and Nomura wanting to pull back from Disney. It's the entire reason for Quadratum, Yozora, etc. I don't think they'll change direction when both companies want KH to continue without the existence of several pre-existing characters. (Donald, Goofy, etc., will always be important to the plot so they likely won't ever remove them entirely and they were in the only trailer we've gotten for IV.)

I’ve been working on five stories for almost four years, but I’m almost done with the first and second story, sometimes though it’s hard because you realize you want to add or change apart of the story and the it starts getting crazy. But the even though of working on a story for 22 years I would definitely be in though for a long time for what will happen next in the story.
I see a lot of comments talking about how SQUARE ENIX and Disney are disagreeing on the story wtv. There is nothing Nomura can do , he has no control whatsoever . SORA is like 90% Disney , 10% Square if not 100% Disney . Sad part is Disney doesn’t need KH and still most likely won’t sell it , it’s either how they want it or it’s not . At this point really its all good. I’ve accepted is a weird priority series, but is also Nomuras baby, and every KH game, has to be perfect, even if they arent, thats okay. Im not waiting anymore, we will get new trailers, when we get new trailers, we will get the game when we get the game. Its no use in fighting when half the fanbase, assumes they have a whole life ahead of them to wait on a game. I enjoy squares other games.
They should have not made any sort of announcements for kh4 if they weren’t going to release it within the next 2-4 years. After the horrendously long delays of FFXV and kh3, you’d think Nomura would know this by now.

This may sound kind of dark but one of my issues with the franchise is that they take so long to release new pieces to the story and a bunch of the actors that brought characters to life (both in English & Japanese) throughout the series are now no longer with us so they never got to see the story fulfilled.
RIP Leonard Nimoy(the best Xehanort) Also, the gaps between games were slightly shorter in the beginning, mainly in Japan, but overtime the game releases got stretched out much further.

i feel like alot of you forget that Disney owns Kingdom Hearts. while Nomura has alot of influence over the story etc, he does not infact have control over marketing or ports of games. that's disneys decision.

To summarize: Nomura is getting piled up in the office. If Nomura is juggling all the games he's running WITH inner-politics changing things up on his teams, it's kind to just wait but continue showing our interest.

Theory 1: shift to mainline story focus, resulting in restructuring level design and pacing. Essentially little to no disney worlds, all in on the KH story for phase 2. Hot take but one I wouldnt be against. Theory 2: internal arguements between square and disney over whatever or other, values conflict in today's world between western and eastern devs. Theory 3: development hell, get ready for another 10yr+ wait time. Theory 4: scope and scale have become larger than originally thought and needs waaaaay more time to cook. That's best I got for KH4. Missing link tho I got no idea
I've been thinking things said in the video are true like the change in the direction of the series and also at Square Enix. The new CEO doesn't like showing more of a game after being announced until a year or less before release, which is not next year for KH4. I think the whole story of Missing Link will be out before KH4 because it's important to the story. Also if it's coming out on Switch 2 they might be waiting for that to be revealed first. Maybe even the next Xbox. I hope it's not as far off as PS6, but we'll see...
Personally as someone who has been a life long fan of Kingdom Hearts from the beginning, a big part of the essence of the Kingdom Hearts franchise as a whole has always been lots of waiting between main game releases. Being left in the dark by Square Enix is something I’ve already become so accepting of because this is how it’s always been. Keep fighting the good fight, against impatience 🫡

I do think KH4 is staying the shadows until Missing Link is up and running. I'm sure there are story beats in that game that are need-to-know for KH4; thus, Missing Link needs enough time to do it's Gacha thing before then. I also do wonder if the Remake trilogy is taking up more priority than originally expected. We've had some major hits come and gone such as Crisis Core Reunion , FF16, FF7 Rebirth, and the DawnTrail expansion for FF14. You'd think it would be time for Kingdom Hearts to get some limelight. I can understand if they want to keep their games underwraps, but it's just so weird to not leave any passing remarks on development. Overall, I'm just hoping that when some light is shed on KH4 that it means development has been making great strides. Plus, I do hope for all the good health for those working in Square Enix.
I think there's a lot of shaking up in the dev teams. I'm taking a step back and think that it's a complete restructure and kicking out activists. There might also be some other geopolitical BS. The Japanese stock market crashed, and with Disney being involved..... we'll. I think they might be at odds with IP's and characters Disney holds. Crazy as this might sound, we could end up having a game with only ff characters and the main crew and Disney characters.

They’re probably just stuck on story issues. You remember the ending of 3, right? Where they just wrapped up all the loose ends in a very unsatisfying manner? Trying to avoid that mess may be difficult. This is evidenced more by their delay of 3 for so so long. Hopefully we see something more, soon.

No one waited for 13 years. Kh3 wasn’t even confirmed to even exist until 2013. Prior to that there was never confirmation that kh3 was ever gonna be a thing.
I mean, if you wanna get *technical* nearly 100% of the community in the mid-late 2000’s already knew a third game was for sure going to happen(mainly due to the number titles) and because of the teaser for BBS at the end of 2 - no way were the Dev’s going to leave the game’s stories incomplete - that is beyond disingenuous and delusional, considering the *many* theory threads and discussions about this particular fact in the 2000’s.
I mean given disney's current state, i'm actually not surprised nothing was announced. who knows what the state of their video game division is like at the moment. plus japan is going through a bit of an economic tumble right now so, who knows :/
KH Missing Link is the series' biggest anamoly, and development is probably goin through the wringer (maybe due to GPS issues). Anyones guess there. For KH4, I believe things are fine. Can't speak on Nomura's 2023 orchestra comment, but don't think he'd let an inkling of bad news slip by with no PR proctoring him. Most likely thing happening is not only SE restructuring, but also the desire of SE and especially the KH team to not drip feed and overhype (and overspoil) KH4 after lessons learned with KH3. Lack of news would ideally mean that the game is aiming for a 2026 release and they want to get as close to then before marketing (like touching the year and roughly 12 or so months until release). FF16, FF7 Remake & Rebirth, and now DQ III HD-2D (now with I & II within the next year) all look to have done this for their heavy marketing cycle. In fact, Remake AND DQ III HD-2D went on a 3+ year silence until coming back to the public eye in force (late 2015 - early half 2019 for FF7R & 2021 - 2024 for DQ III HD-2D). It's a stretch, but they could very well wait until next spring/summer for marketing to begin (3 years). If it does, that's fine as long as the product is quality and can meet 2026 comfortably with no rushing. If we get past June 2025 and still hear absolutely nothing, THEN that's the time to start worrying.

I can understand 4 taking a long time in development, but missing link, what are they doing to it? That’s taking this long to release? This better be one heck of a mobile game. I’m also really concerned about how there’s been no other games even mentioned. MOM was supposed to be like the stepping stone into Kingdom Hearts doing other types of games. Other than this possible Fortnite collaboration, there’s been nothing. And that’s a real shame. I for one was looking forward to Kingdom Hearts trying new things. It’s sad to see that they’ve been quiet on that end.

When he said that, it got resolved. It has nothing to with that suggestion. All of that was said way before the Fortnite deal. Literally KH has always been the money maker and still is now as of 2024 with the Steam release

You are thinkg too much about it. Nomura actually made a comment about people saying he was sick during last Reynatis interview and said he was perectly fine and has alot of work to do. Same with Dev hell. The biggest problem I can see is UE5, since it's not all there, but they also have support from epic. The real reason were not gonna hear about KH4 this year is beacuse it's not marketing period for it. This stuff get's decided way before they start showing off the game. As for Missing Link I have a hunch it's gonna show up at TGS and were gonna get it a week later. Same thing happened with Ever Crisis and same conversation was going around about that game too at the time. Basically just play Rebirth for the rest of the year and wait.

I’m starting to think that something internal is happening to the series. I’m betting it has to do with licensing and the games entirely. Square Enix hasn’t had a game that has met their sales expectations. Not even FF16 or Rebirth which I blame on the company and their dumb actions and putting so much pressure on the FF series. Moreover, I think reliance is gonna be heavy on KH4/ML and both Disney and Square want the games to be perfect and bring in sales.
It’s obvious Disney and Square aren’t doing amazing. But KH is a series that millions of people are interested in and will be there for the next release. So, possibly development on the series is going slower than expected or something like that due to putting a ton of reliance on the series.
Not to mention, the Epic x Disney deal is also interesting given that KH4 will be on UE5. Maybe it’s being cooked by more devs than ever which could be causing the Too Many cooks in the kitchen issue.
If TGS doesn’t get anything. Not even a Nomura interview then… we’re on DEFCON 5 with KH.
If it means we get a better game than KH3 was, let them take all the time they need. And I don't want to see any trailers or news unless release is within six months
I think what happened is since square enix made the sudden announcement that they're going multiplatform, the KH4 dev team is going back to work on pc and console ports so the game can have a platform wide release at launch. As for KHML, I think they listened to the people who complained about the game only being on mobile so they're going back to at least make a pc version that would be available at launch so the game dosent suffer the same fate as ff7 the first soldier

I think Nomura is trying to do crazy stuff with Disney properties but they aren't into new ideas. It doesn't help that KH3 was basically Nomura's personal middle finger to Square too. 'Oh you're gonna snatch Noctis from me? Well I'll just remove all the FF characters from 3 and make my own Noctis'. Nomura is kinda in a corner where he doesn't work well with anybody.

I frankly believe something is wrong with Missing Link. It just seems stuck in this anticipation state since last May. Though maybe the weather for this summer wasn’t exactly what Nomura and the team envisioned so they decided to hold it off until the fall or winter of 2024?
As for KHIV, I’m not to worry as I think they’ll go for a similar approach to Rebirth marketing so next time we see it. We will be hearing all the English voices and a release window or possibly date. Hence why KHIV isn’t getting those small clips of Sora with his DDD battle quotes like in KH3 early trailers.
Now my two cents on Nomura comment during the orchestra to Yoko can’t be anything too worrying or bad. Maybe they got the thumb-up for Yoko to do a track or two for Star Wars. And as for his health, he did make a statement a week ago about reassuring fans that he is fine and his health is his top 1 priority.
I’m also with you on something up with ML.
Either it could be a navigation issue where the player couldn’t get around or travel since ML is said to be played at home or on the go. Or it’s an issue with GPS entirely since KH has never done someone like this before. Perhaps development was underestimated and bugs appeared?
Or the monetization and gameplay is in limbo. ML is going to be a gacha game. We know that with the trophies and whatnot. Just like Union Cross and in a gaming environment in today’s world… the likes of Hoyoverse and Genshin/Star Rail/ ZZZ could have Square/Disney eager to rack in that kind of money. And KH is a big series people are willing to spend on.
(Look at how many sales the KH Steam collection got. It’s evident. People will buy KH)
It really is strange what’s going on with kingdom hearts in general right now? Personally I wasn’t getting my hopes up at D23 for any news on KH4 but at this point I think we’ll probably be waiting until 2025 before we hear any news on the franchise in general. Which really is a shame too because I thought once final fantasy 7 rebirth release, we would get more information on KH4 and missing link too. Sadly, that isn’t the case at all.

There have been interviews where Nomura talks about Disney wanting to pull back from KH and Nomura wanting to pull back from Disney. It's the entire reason for Quadratum, Yozora, etc. I don't think they'll change direction when both companies want KH to continue without the existence of several pre-existing characters. (Donald, Goofy, etc., will always be important to the plot so they likely won't ever remove them entirely and they were in the only trailer we've gotten for IV.)

I’ve been working on five stories for almost four years, but I’m almost done with the first and second story, sometimes though it’s hard because you realize you want to add or change apart of the story and the it starts getting crazy. But the even though of working on a story for 22 years I would definitely be in though for a long time for what will happen next in the story.

At this point really its all good. I’ve accepted is a weird priority series, but is also Nomuras baby, and every KH game, has to be perfect, even if they arent, thats okay. Im not waiting anymore, we will get new trailers, when we get new trailers, we will get the game when we get the game. Its no use in fighting when half the fanbase, assumes they have a whole life ahead of them to wait on a game. I enjoy squares other games.

This may sound kind of dark but one of my issues with the franchise is that they take so long to release new pieces to the story and a bunch of the actors that brought characters to life (both in English & Japanese) throughout the series are now no longer with us so they never got to see the story fulfilled.
This isn’t true. Prior to kh3 there was a new KH game almost every year from the beginning up until 2020 when it just stopped

Theory 1: shift to mainline story focus, resulting in restructuring level design and pacing. Essentially little to no disney worlds, all in on the KH story for phase 2. Hot take but one I wouldnt be against.
Theory 2: internal arguements between square and disney over whatever or other, values conflict in today's world between western and eastern devs.
Theory 3: development hell, get ready for another 10yr+ wait time.
Theory 4: scope and scale have become larger than originally thought and needs waaaaay more time to cook.

I've been thinking things said in the video are true like the change in the direction of the series and also at Square Enix. The new CEO doesn't like showing more of a game after being announced until a year or less before release, which is not next year for KH4. I think the whole story of Missing Link will be out before KH4 because it's important to the story. Also if it's coming out on Switch 2 they might be waiting for that to be revealed first. Maybe even the next Xbox. I hope it's not as far off as PS6, but we'll see...

Personally as someone who has been a life long fan of Kingdom Hearts from the beginning, a big part of the essence of the Kingdom Hearts franchise as a whole has always been lots of waiting between main game releases. Being left in the dark by Square Enix is something I’ve already become so accepting of because this is how it’s always been. Keep fighting the good fight, against impatience 🫡

I do think KH4 is staying the shadows until Missing Link is up and running. I'm sure there are story beats in that game that are need-to-know for KH4; thus, Missing Link needs enough time to do it's Gacha thing before then. I also do wonder if the Remake trilogy is taking up more priority than originally expected.
We've had some major hits come and gone such as Crisis Core Reunion , FF16, FF7 Rebirth, and the DawnTrail expansion for FF14. You'd think it would be time for Kingdom Hearts to get some limelight. I can understand if they want to keep their games underwraps, but it's just so weird to not leave any passing remarks on development.
Overall, I'm just hoping that when some light is shed on KH4 that it means development has been making great strides. Plus, I do hope for all the good health for those working in Square Enix.
I think there's a lot of shaking up in the dev teams. I'm taking a step back and think that it's a complete restructure and kicking out activists. There might also be some other geopolitical BS. The Japanese stock market crashed, and with Disney being involved..... we'll. I think they might be at odds with IP's and characters Disney holds. Crazy as this might sound, we could end up having a game with only ff characters and the main crew and Disney characters.
I think there are problems between sqaure and disney and that most likely they dont agree on the direction of either game soo we get infinite delays untill either one of them will break or the game will be officially canceled

They’re probably just stuck on story issues. You remember the ending of 3, right? Where they just wrapped up all the loose ends in a very unsatisfying manner? Trying to avoid that mess may be difficult. This is evidenced more by their delay of 3 for so so long. Hopefully we see something more, soon.

KH Missing Link is the series' biggest anamoly, and development is probably goin through the wringer (maybe due to GPS issues). Anyones guess there.
For KH4, I believe things are fine. Can't speak on Nomura's 2023 orchestra comment, but don't think he'd let an inkling of bad news slip by with no PR proctoring him. Most likely thing happening is not only SE restructuring, but also the desire of SE and especially the KH team to not drip feed and overhype (and overspoil) KH4 after lessons learned with KH3. Lack of news would ideally mean that the game is aiming for a 2026 release and they want to get as close to then before marketing (like touching the year and roughly 12 or so months until release).
FF16, FF7 Remake & Rebirth, and now DQ III HD-2D (now with I & II within the next year) all look to have done this for their heavy marketing cycle. In fact, Remake AND DQ III HD-2D went on a 3+ year silence until coming back to the public eye in force (late 2015 - early half 2019 for FF7R & 2021 - 2024 for DQ III HD-2D). It's a stretch, but they could very well wait until next spring/summer for marketing to begin (3 years). If it does, that's fine as long as the product is quality and can meet 2026 comfortably with no rushing. If we get past June 2025 and still hear absolutely nothing, THEN that's the time to start worrying.

I’m also really concerned about how there’s been no other games even mentioned. MOM was supposed to be like the stepping stone into Kingdom Hearts doing other types of games. Other than this possible Fortnite collaboration, there’s been nothing. And that’s a real shame. I for one was looking forward to Kingdom Hearts trying new things. It’s sad to see that they’ve been quiet on that end.

I’ve got the feeling that Disney has focused on gaming and see ‘’more values’’ to put more money in Fortnite than Kingdom Hearts, because it makes more greens. When he said that, it got resolved. It has nothing to with that suggestion. All of that was said way before the Fortnite deal. Literally KH has always been the money maker and still is now as of 2024 with the Steam release

Same with Dev hell. The biggest problem I can see is UE5, since it's not all there, but they also have support from epic.
The real reason were not gonna hear about KH4 this year is beacuse it's not marketing period for it. This stuff get's decided way before they start showing off the game.
As for Missing Link I have a hunch it's gonna show up at TGS and were gonna get it a week later. Same thing happened with Ever Crisis and same conversation was going around about that game too at the time.
Basically just play Rebirth for the rest of the year and wait.
