Thank you very much for enlightening us.I'm very interested as I'd like to buy a permanent live aboard with the scope to go deep sea. I've skippered a fisher 34 before, 11 tonnes but after something bigger with a better layout.
Do you have a bow thruster?

Sorry for the delay, yes there is one and while we don't use it much it's very helpful!

Always liked these but never been aboard, would you feel secure taking her across the Atlantic? Such high center of gravity, does she roll excessively? Luv your music !
    Cheers,

Great questions! We bought her specifically because she was designed for blue ocean cruising. We've done a few trips across the channel in varying conditions and have always felt very safe. In terms of roll it's no different to any other sail boat I've been on.
From a center of gravity perspective it's quite low as the engine is at or below the waterline along with the keel so while there's a lot of boat above the water, there's plenty of weight below. Total weight is around 17 tons, compare that to say a First 40.1 at ±8 tons. With the fixed rail, higher displacement etc. it feels and sails like a much bigger boat than it is. If you're thinking of buying one then just ping me a message and we can organise a day trip sometime in the new year.
Hope that helps. Thanks re music :-)

Regarding your boat speed vs RPM at 4:58. I am familiar with an N42. It has the EVEN bigger engine as many seem to have. 4LH-HTE 130hp continuous 140 for a bit.
It does 5kt at 1,000 RPM. Owner often uses 1,200 for those no wind days when passage making, I forget the speed but it is about 6kts. Now whether this is good for the engine is another question 🙂
    This para EDITED.
I wonder if your propeller is optimal? "My" boat has a maxprop 3 blade with 24 inch diameter and set to 16 inch pitch - now confirmed (possibly really 600x400mm). Original fixed pitch prop was definitely 23" dia x 17" pitch.
Now this is NOT a recommendation. Maybe your apparently finer pitch prop will be better for those times when you really need it? In a howling gale and rough seas when against a lee shore.
    Also-
The pre-purchase survey reported - "A maximum speed of 8.7 NM’s was recorded at a max
2900 rpm." "[after] the removal of the crustaceans below the waterline, the vessel recorded max revs of 3,150"

Thanks for the video, very good boat! But it seems storages on the deck is not so big as it wanted, is not it?

Great question. So the deck lockers are not deep lazarettes.
We've not found to to be much of an issue as there's an abundance of storage inside the boat. We hang spare sheets/lines in the anchor locker and we also have granny bars for in-use lines.

Hi just come across your channel and now subscribed. I currently own a etap 32i but will be looking for a live aboard yacht soon . The nauticat motorsalors are up there high on my list of ideal boats along with the island packet yachts. What year is your yacht ?

Hi hi! That's very exciting! Ours is a 1998.
The Nauticats generally have two types of model. The pilothouse sailors which is what ours is as well as the traditional motor sailors which are a bit more boxy. I also like the Beneteau CC's they're pretty decent ocean boats.

@@ChasingMermaids thank you for making your review video - really helpful - as I've been trying to find out more about Nauticats as thinking of buying one and looking at both kinds - the more traditional motorsailors and the newer pilothouse models. Just wondering - have you ever sailed on one of the trad style Nauticats and how do they compare with your Pilothouse sailor model for just sailing/no motor?

I noticed on the stern you have what looks like a Sat dome I assume that's an fb150 system how do you find it?? I am currently looking at purchasing a Nauticat soon either a 441 or 42 in the new year.

We actually moved all the sat phone gear off when we bought the boat. We're planning on putting a strut supported Rutland 1200 in its place.
For internet we now use a commercial grade 4G LTE router that's mounted on the Comms post and gives connection 5-15nm offshore.
For longer term, isatbroadband have a plan that's much better value, alternatively wait a little longer for Mr Musk.
If you have any questions feel free to get in touch. Have a small WhatsApp group of nauticat 42 owners.

Yeah sorry it's a bit difficult. There's a layout here: www.nauticat.cz/obrazky/planky/big/42%20big.jpg I've also just got a new camera which should be able to take 360 shots so I'll see if I can put a few up :-)

Ever heard the saying ship shape...??? Holy ship what a mess ....that's a major Safety Hazard......not to mention looks like shit. You sure you didn't steal the boat from a real sailor. I want to go on but why bother....
