Just shows how much of a change a speaker can make. Huge! Now in a mix, mic'd at volume things may change, but in your demo, I give the nod to the ET65.
Dead on with the greenback maybe not the 1st choice for this amp, or open back combos in general. They sound great in 4x12 sealed cabs, but I've never liked them in open back scenarios.
if you want a mid dump amp, get a clean fender. The midrange is where the magic is for matchless. The changes give it a fender tone. Save $2000 and buy a used vibrolux ri, or even a blues jr.
I've never met a green bag that I actually liked I can't stand them but great video and I was curious what you thought about the master volume which kind of is a phase control in the in the way to the power tubes.. they use a weird like face between the push-pull and I was wondering if there was something else that you would do on the master volume
I got the much later designed spitfire head version with the matchless 1x12 cab. It was interesting to hear the amp not running so hot after the mod. Matchless obviously subscribed to the hotter is better at the expense of tube life vs tone. It makes for a interesting comparison subject. Do I mod or don’t I, Matched Power Tubes are $70 Mod $150 Is the Tone difference negligible to a non user vs a user. (Cause once you here it you can’t un-hear it.) $300 for me to find out. :) The speaker improvement in that version sounded immense, my cab has a proprietary speaker, Maybe it’s just a re-labeled greenback?
hi,id like to know what primary impedance for the output transformer,i read 4 k on the forum, but for me its a non sense so a push-pull class A , 6bq5 this is instead 8 k .Effectively 120 ohm on the cathode its low low so150 0hms is correct.thanks
I never understood the greenback and Celestion worship. Then again I've had a 1983 Laney PRO-TUBE, pre-AOR, 4X12 loaded with Fane speakers which is the best cabinet I've heard but that's my ears and my opinion.
Totally agree w sonic difference of greenback , slightly unpleasant- maybe in mix of band it would sound good much like SVT alone is mid - centric but sounds great in mix - do you need those lows ( ha is it apparent I play bass ? Dislike fighting woofy guitars !😊)agreed sounds way better solo so prob would translate to ensemble in good way maybe dump some lows
I'm all for "tight lows" speaker when appropriate, but this GB is so mids-forward it just sounds kinda nasty. Knowing the owner and what he plays, I don't think he knows what he's been missing from the amp.
Beautiful voice too!
That's an excellent sounding amp. Right up my alley. I'd bet pushed right to the edge of breakup and slightly beyond it's wonderful.
I think I went with a 120pf in my spitfire clone build after trying it with the 180. Heckuva great sounding machine.
love my WGS ET65, great speaker!!

I have one in a Peavey Bravo combo (open back) and it sounds fantastic in my opinion, different strokes i guess haha
Same experience here. Try the Blue!

Love my WGS G12Q’s.

ET65 is the most versatile unit I've ever encountered. #phwoarphuckyeah

What value did you change the cathode bias resistors to if you don’t mind me asking?

Fane know what they're doing!
I made their 15" rear loaded horn into a massive 2x15 with nos Fender Utahs. Perfect for both guitar and bass.
G12H30 Anniversary should be another better speaker than the GB correct?
That's what Matchless uses in a 1x12 configuration.
Ah... a 150 ohm Dale. My money was on a 160. I owe you 10 bucks
Thank you for saving my eyes! 😂
See/hear whatcha mean😉😎👍
So, how does someone go about licensing your pedals? Like I would have to pay you a certain amount for your pedals to have company build/sell them?
Solder smoke, that’s where my money goes
Do I spy a Kay Value Leader? Bonus points and a subscribe.
The Am; sounded good through your speaker, but not with that particular Greenback.
Well, yeah. Everything sounds better with a Creamback style speaker.

Ps really enjoy your channel!! Thanks for it !!!
I liked the greenback better =)
