I was searching for another Tiziana and found this one. Never heard of her before. She is fantastic...exactly the kind of spinto that I adore. Every phrase is fully voiced and expressed...and her equalized power from top to bottom, with no weak spot anywhere, is absolutely thrilling.
If you enjoy her, please check her Traviata recording. She is fantastic there, I think also around 1993. She has fantastic intonation and she does infuse emotions into her singing. Her handling of the passagio is remakable at the end, she can freely move into and out of chest voice on that note, very few can do that at such large volume. It shows her technical acuity and heightens the dramatic climax.
Thanks to Yutube I have been able to compare many singers siging this moving aria of Andrea Chenier - among the many Callas was the best! But I was amazed from Tiziana Fabbricini's performance , who apparently has listened Callas's performance so many times to memorize all the dramathic parts of it. Brava, but alas Maria Callas is stil unbeatable.
Unbelievable!! I'll take an occasional off note (I didn't hear any by the way) because I remember the names Tebaldi and Callas -- yet these singers were deemed spectacular. (and they were!) This lady brings excitement and passion to an aria and isn't that what opera is supposed to do for you? (I love all these armchair "expert" critics who love to hear themselves criticize. It's their fun in life!)
I don't know much about Fabbricini other than that Sony recording of "Traviata" opposite Alagna at La Scala a decade or so ago. Judging from this clip she's making quite a name for herself in Italy as a lyric/spinto repertory.
Could someone tell me when was this taped? I rather doubt it is recent - I thought Fabbricini has retired. She sang Violetta with Muti in La Scala back around 1989 and I thought she sang some Lucias in the 90s and then retired. If she sounds this good now, I would love to hear her. The lower tessitura of this aria suits her - great chest voice....
There's nothing whatsoever "ugly" about this voice! (unless you're hearing-impaired maybe). It's a beautiful tone, full-bodied and perfectly phrased for this aria. And why do some people always have to make such predictable (and unsupportable) Callas comparisons??? Jeez, let Tiziana be herself! If you must compare, try Milanov instead.
Not sure what Palcofunesto wants out of a spinto soprano -- macche, qual "flatness?" Maybe he needs a new sound card or new speakers. A thrilling performance by a singer who by rights should be poised for a great comeback very soon.
