  • A baby African Elephant slips into the Harpoor Dam in the Addo Elephant National Park. The family unit then spend 90 minutes attempting get the baby elephant out of the waterhole and rescue it from possibly drowning.
This is the second time that we have witnessed a baby elephant falling into this waterhole in the reserve, and t is fascinating to watch the herd dynamics as the family unit work together to rescue the baby elephant.

Baby elephants are so vulnerable. It is beautiful to see the family assist the ellies rescue. Waterholes and the mud are treacherous. I guess you shared the ordeal for the full 90 min. Nice!

Yes, we were there for the entire time. Batteries ran flat on one camera and them ended up using a drone, hand held, for the last 40 minutes. Most frustrating, as the herd exited and walked away, I hadn't pressed the record button in my excitement and relief.

@@NatureTalksMD Amazing experience. Many years ago, at dusk in Zimbabwe, we watched a big herd of elephants making their way to water. All generations in the herd. I didn't even think of a camera. Magical to watch. I can still play it in my mind. Cheers from the Netherlands.
