      @@RobMacKillop1 of course! By the time I came around he was essentially retired but never stopped playing. He always had a musical partner and had lots of gigs in and around the Bronx neighborhood where he lived for 50 years. I was into theater when I was young and sometimes we would play and sing together at family events. He was active and independent and playing guitar until he passed at 95. He had a really funny dry wit and was surprisingly modest about his career. It wasn’t until after he passed and we went through his archives that we discovered just how incredible it was.

    Rob, I watch/listen to all your posts and greatly enjoy them, including those related to music and instruments that are beyond my field of knowledge. It's always especially nice, though, to find you with an archtop in your hands, as this is my particular area of minute study. When I saw "Hy White" in the description, I was just thrilled, as he's one of my favorites, who -- I agree -- is an unsung great, deserving of far wider recognition from today's archtop enthusiasts. Many thanks for this beautifully executed rendition of his lovely composition -- as well as for the blog spot spotlighting Hy. His _Guitar Digest_ inspires me to brush up on my reading, so I can tackle other entries. It was the Herman band's "River Bed Blues" that brought his playing to my attention, as you might expect, many years ago. The Eastman sounds wonderful, despite my never having cared for flats, sonically or in tactile terms. I'm sure the Charlie Christian pickup will make a fantastic addition/swap -- I hope you'll keep us updated.

      Thanks, TE. I sold my Elferink because of hand problems, but this guitar is easy to play, and the acoustic sound is not bad. Not quite the Elferink acoustic sound, but not bad.
      It will take a couple of months to get the pickup replaced. Looking forward to it, though.

      @@RobMacKillop1 A darn shame about that beautiful Elferink -- and I recall your first mention of the hand problems. On the bright side, though, your playing does not betray these digital difficulties; you are able to make any guitar sound like a top-class instrument.

    Beautiful playing Rob. I own an Eastman AR503CE ( Classic ) and they are, indeed, outstanding instruments especially at ( but not just because of ) the price point. I am so impressed by the quality of craftsmanship that I will definitely be investing in another one soon. I am hoping to buy the T59V or perhaps the T486. I will have to try them both to see which one I prefer but they both look, and sound, wonderful. Hope you are enjoying the festivities and all the very best for a blessed 2020.

    I'm having ago at this nice tune now plectrum style but being a classical player I am a little confused.In the score there are chords fretted and fingered for four or five notes ,how do you strum these and not hit open strings not notated?

    • @RobMacKillop1
      @RobMacKillop1  7 месяцев назад +1

      You have to lean back your left hand to mute any adjacent strings that should not sound. Plectrum players do this a lot. Sometimes you even see string 1 and 6 to be played together, but just quickly play the 6th first then the 1st, as fast as you can. These situations are extreme and not common. But chords with a ‘dead’ string in the middle are quite common. But there is another technique you could use of plectrum and fingers of the right hand. This is known as Hybrid Technique, and it can get you out of the occasional tricky situation. Good luck! Rob

    Hi, Rob, wonderful execution. I downloaded from your page the "Guitar digest" album. I saw you changed the fingers for the C13b9, F6(9) and following chords. I think the intention of Hy White was playing them to the 8th fret, 7th fret... Eb13b9 at 11th

    • @RobMacKillop1
      @RobMacKillop1  3 года назад

      Hi Silvio. Understood. I could see what he wanted, but that C note at the end of the fourth line, first bar, has to be on the 5th string for the chord that follows. If I'd played the preceding F6/9 chord up at the 7th position, it is impossible to sustain the harmony while moving the 3rd position for that lone C, which leads into the next bar. I just saw a way of sustaining the sounds better. But, file that under interpretation. I don't think much harm, if any, was done. Cheers, Silvio, Rob.

    • @causetti
      @causetti 3 года назад

      @@RobMacKillop1 No harm at all and thank you for the explanation! As you say it is related to own interpretation and guitar gives the possibility to choose several ways to do the same notes. Best regards, Silvio.,
