But as far as coldest places I've been in the winter would have to be Boston I went to the US for Christmas ( I live in the UAE) and flew into Boston it was blistering cold!! My dad and I had to wait outside the airport for the hotel bus to pick us up and there had been a snowstorm a few days earlier. I Soo cold!!

    Advisors really need to be clearer about “access to EU/Schengen zone”. You are only allowed to live/work in another EU country if you have an EU citizenship. A residence permit in an EU country will only allow you to travel for the 90 per 180 days visa-free, which is easy for most nationalities anyway without needing an EU residence. The only difference Schengen makes is the lack of border controls meaning you can try to fly under the radar if you like.

    • @OffshoreCitizen
      @OffshoreCitizen  Год назад +1

      Yes this is accurate. In practice if you've got a Schengen residency you're not limited in your time in other Schengen countries but technically you're under the limitations of your country of citizenship

    Great Video Michael. I can attest to the bureaucracy- friendly atmosphere in Estonia. And the society being calm and peaceful. Just about everything is done digitally,and since the Russian hack, stored in servers quite securely offshore I believe. Just a word that Estonia is very much on the frontline of tension between NATO and Russia at the moment. Anyone looking to invest in Estonia also needs to consider what they believe the geopolitcal climate might well be 3-10 years up the track. Obviously such a time frame is anyone's guess with a war going on in Ukraine at the moment ( which the Estonians are supporting majorly). I would also recommend that anyone considering living in Estonia think seriously about supporting the Estonian Defence League, which is the home guard of the nation. Estonians are not going to let anyone from the east walk all over them again, as happened in 1940.

    • @OffshoreCitizen
      @OffshoreCitizen  Год назад +1

      Fair points. A few thoughts here
      1. You don't really need much if any geographic exposure to Estonia to take advantage of this. The company needs to be based there but a company is just an entry on a ledger. You could be building digital assets on servers not located there producing profit held in banks not located there so risk is extremely minimal
      2. I think talk of Russia expanding the front of the war are highly overblown and not very rational. They are having enough trouble in Ukraine without looking abroad and demographics are against them. If the far turned nuclear clearly that's bad and there would be fallout into Europe but again you don't need geographic exposure through these programs.

      @Offshore Citizen Hi Michael! Excellent comments, and you emphasise a key point of your presentation, that residence is not essential (= sorry to go off message! 😊). I do agree : Russia is stretched and aside from bullying threats, is unlikely to invade the Baltics anytime soon( we hope). The point I was trying to make was that geopolitics should be part of any risk assessment. A point I'm sure you won't disagree with! Thankyou for your excellent content, considered comments, all delivered in a modulated ? Canadian accent! Beats whiney American East Coast any day- no names, no pack drill...😉

    An Estonian residency doesn't give you Schengen/EU rights. Only an Estonian citizenship would. This seems a bit misleading. It gives you rights within Estonia.

    I was initially thinking of getting residency in Canada because I love northern nature but lately people have been complaining so much about Canada (including comments on this channel) that it's making me consider Northern Europe instead. Sweden, Finland and Estonia all have great nature and would all be perfect for me but Estonia's taxes are much lower.

      Born and raised in Canada. The current government has ruined it here. It's very very expensive so look carefully into the cost of living. For example where I live the average income is 67k yet the average cost of a house is 697k.
      I am 50 years old and have several friends that have left and we are right behind them.
      I am a mortgage broker of 20 years and two average income people cannot afford the price of an average priced house.

      You need to do your homework about these countries you are deciding to live in, a lot of these countries are importing mass amounts of third world immigrants, yeah yeah racism. although a lot of those countries you mentioned are primarily homogeneous society's they are under increasing pressure to import more low wage earners, if you don't know what that means then you may be better off staying where you are.
      Do your homework, primarily in the areas of violent crimes and the sad part is this information is being suppressed so that news agency's can't report on these stats.

    Estonia is caught right in the jaws of the nexus between NATO and Russia. How can it be a safe option as a residency visa?

    • @OffshoreCitizen
      @OffshoreCitizen  Год назад +4

      1. You have to believe there will be war there, personally I don't think it's likely. Russia is quite impotent & can't afford to expand further. This of course could be false
      2. If you're not living there anyway and just getting the residency permit what difference does it make?
