What amazing photos- l’m drooling likes those giraffes- would love to be there. Your blogs are always inspirational- thanks for the glimpse of your photo excursion.
I had to watch this one again after getting back from the Mara in August. It was a lot greener when you were there. We had a great time in Africa, would love to go back sometime.
I'm glad you were able to vlog in Africa. It is truly wonderful to see. Also, if you need to drop the go-pro to get the image, do it, I'm sure that most of your subscribers, being mostly photographers themselves, understand completely. Glad to see your videos again. If you are still in Africa, enjoy.
There are many YT photographers who are sensational but your amusing gaffs and go pro mishaps makes me feel like I too may someday overcome my inexperience. I understand a true artist makes it look easy but thank you for all the beauty and kernels of wisdom!
You are such a great teacher Steve. The whole video was wonderful but for me the leopard going up the tree was the best . I'm going to try to copy that with my tabby back here in Wyoming.
Thanks Steve for sharing this, really needed this as I am craving this so much. Been there for two times(2018 & 2019) and not been able to go back since.
Oh my! Thanks for sharing this drive with us. Cheetahs are my favorite Safari animal. For as fast as they are they are so elegant. Daniel did a great job! Beautiful shots!
Brilliant, its soooo difficult to vlog and nail the shot. I have been a few times, but still want more. Never happy and need to manage my expectation. Thanks for sharing
Hi Steve, a wonderfull oportunity beeing alone in a car with a excelent driver, great video, good pics! Been there july 1992, with a Nikon F3 and a Fe2, a dont know the brand anymore 100 - 300mm and a 500mm mirror lens. And Kodachrome 64 ;-)) Should try to digitalise the slides now with the best tech on market... Wish i had the possibilities of now then ;-)) We did a 2 month trip, Kenia and Tansania, Safari, treking, Mt. Kenia and Mt. Kilimanjara, diving, having a great time... And sincwe so me tie i think about going there again... You make the feeling bigger! Thanks a lot!
Steve. I can relate to that big smile on your face. Getting great shots puts a big smile on my face too… along with goose bumps. Thanks so much for sharing your special shoot with us. I felt like I was there with you. I’m patiently waiting for your next video.
Steve, yes was 1 of my all time favorite videos of yours. The photos and the experience were priceless. Thank you so very much for sharing this amazing adventure.
too tired for a short drive in the afternoon? When you are there? You wouldn't have been so lucky with me! ;-) Fantastic sightings! Thank you for sharing!! More more more...
Thank you, thank you, thank you! It is such a treat to see you doing what you love best. And the results are truly amazing! Wishing you a safe trip home, and I am looking forward to see more of your Africa wildlife photos!
AWESOME!! And painfull LOL!! I took my wife and three kids there in February 2018 for 9 days and I recognize some of the areas you showed. One of my daughters still has the Kenya bead bracelet on that she got there, it NEVER comes off!!! Gotta do it again!
This day was like striking gold! Thank you for taking me/us along for the ride as I would have liked to have been there grabbing shots as well. That Cheetah...boom!
Thanks so much. I probably will never get the opportunity to go on an African safari so it’s wonderful that you share yours. Great stuff. Look forward to more. 🦁🦒🐆
I went to East Africa Dec 24 2001/Jan 24 2002. I had a 2.1 MP Kodak camera at that time. It wasn't really possible to crop in post. It had digital zoom, and you didn't have to worry about changing lenses, because you couldn't. :) Some of these deer-like critters (deer, elk, moose, bison...) curl up their upper lip so some scent particles land on an extra scent gland - particularly if a female-in-heat is nearby. You probably already know this, but the male giraffes are not just being friendly - they are sniffing the posterior of the female (her urine) to judge if she is in heat yet. If she was, they would be bashing their heads against each other to see who would be her 'boyfriend'. Cheetah like to find a high spot so they can see longer distances. Leopards do of course. I have also seen lions climb acacia trees as well - big males maybe up 2 meters. They do have difficulty climbing down though. I am jealous. I may have to go back soon.
This is just awesome! Thank you for sharing part of your adventure. All of the pictures were wonderful, but that cheetah on the termite mound was amazing.
Hi Steve, an amazing video! I really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing! Mask Mara looks like an amazing place with an abundance of photographic opportunities. Maybe someday I will get to experience it, but for now I’ll live vicariously through your blogs!
This was absolutely amazing! I am planning to go to Tanzania in June. Still undecided what lens I’ll bring. I’ll have 2 cameras for sure. One for closeup, the other for wider views. Hard choice between heavy, big, sharp and creamy background or versatile, light, small and busy background. Nothings perfect!
Great video. I am planning a Safari in Tanzania as soon as I can… I can’t afford a 400 and a Z9, but my 100-400 plus TC and my Z6II (waiting for something new) hopefully will be good for that
Some great captures and video! Too bad for your clients who missed this opportunity. When they see your footage, they'll be kicking themselves. 🤦🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️
You made some excellent photos but I especially liked the giraffe photo with just the neck of one sticking up in the foreground. Thanks for squeezing us in. Wish I could have been there if only to handle the GoPro for you.
You need to come to South Africa where its not so Crowded like Masaai Mara and far more Diversity. Steve if you can afford Mara you can afford Mala Mala and Londolozi etc in Sabi Sands and Ngala in Timbavati and there is Tswalu in the Kalahari Biome and the Eastern Cape has Shamwari = Malaria Free not to mention Madikwe
🤯Fantastic!!! Thoroughly enjoyed it. How did you film and photo the leopard climbing the tree at the same time? It must be breathtaking being there, your photos certainly were stunning👍👍👍👍
Brilliant to see first hand experience of shooting in the field in Africa. So glad you made the vlog… I’d be very interested to find out if you managed to get the 400mm f2.8 lens hood in the Gura gear bag.
This is so good! Hope for more like this. You should also put a gopro on top of the camera for a POV shot so you don’t have to “dick” around with the camera during the shots. Still keep the off camera gopro please. 🙂
What amazing photos- l’m drooling likes those giraffes- would love to be there. Your blogs are always inspirational- thanks for the glimpse of your photo excursion.
Thank you so much!
I got excited and thought this video was 150 minutes 😂
Ha!
😅

Thank you sir 🙏
@@SteveMattheis you’re welcome!
I feel so fortunate to have been able to go on a safari in 2016. I have been on a lot of vacations, but nothing tops a safari.
I'm glad you were able to vlog in Africa. It is truly wonderful to see. Also, if you need to drop the go-pro to get the image, do it, I'm sure that most of your subscribers, being mostly photographers themselves, understand completely. Glad to see your videos again. The less-than-perfect shot of the cub was perfect and the cheetah images were amazing!
There are many YT photographers who are sensational but your amusing gaffs and go pro mishaps makes me feel like I too may someday overcome my inexperience. I understand a true artist makes it look easy but thank you for all the beauty and kernels of wisdom!
Haha thank you 🙏
Great!
Just. Stunning. Thanks Steve. Thanks Daniel.
Glad you enjoyed it👍
Simply Awesome! I don't know how I missed this, but I'm glad that it popped up!
You are such a great teacher Steve. The whole video was wonderful but for me the leopard going up the tree was the best . I'm going to try to copy that with my tabby back here in Wyoming.
Thanks! And good luck with that... 😂

Are you planning another book from all of your Africa work? I hope so!!
Books are sooooo much work and I can't find the time...

What an experience! Thanks for sharing the adventure.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yay, African vlog!
Thanks for the vlog Steve, that was a great experience. Love the cheetah photos
Nice! Question: do you guys ever have problems with thermal distortion when shooting from inside those vehicles? Thanks.
Not from the vehicles, just from the mid day heat...
That was fun! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just yesterday I was thinking, when will Steve be back and share his adventures with us... And wala... You posted today... AWESOME stuff man...
Glad you enjoyed it!

They turn off the vehicles
🤯Fantastic!!! Thoroughly enjoyed it. How did you film and photo the leopard climbing the tree at the same time?
It must be breathtaking being there, your photos certainly were stunning👍👍👍👍
Two cameras👍
Was getting ready to write a comment at the end and then that sunset made me start crying...
Magic 👍
Super video and great images!
Thanks!
Brilliant to see first hand experience of shooting in the field in Africa. So glad you made the vlog… I’d be very interested to find out if you managed to get the 400mm f2.8 lens hood in the Gura gear bag.
Yes no problem 👍

Awesome, really nice experience, lucky you!!!
Yes it was!
Great footage. Awesome photos

This is so good! Hope for more like this. You should also put a gopro on top of the camera for a POV shot so you don’t have to “dick” around with the camera during the shots. Still keep the off camera gopro please. 🙂
