Good show again, Julie. Timeless is my Go-To show for a cheerful host, insightful analysis and an inspiring message. The Good Samaritan parable does seem like a simplistic story, as you said, but it contains some interesting undercurrents.
Samaritans were considered to be filthy or "unclean" and thus were legally prohibited from touching a Jew. Doing so was a Capital Offense. Think Brahmins being touched by Dalits aka "the untouchables", in India's social hierarchy. Or, a poor 19th century black slave touching a southern plantation white ingenue. The Samaritan rescued the beat-up Jewish traveler at a risk to his own life.
Then the Samaritan took the Jewish man to an Inn for convalescence. The Inn Keeper would have known that the "unclean" Samaritan had touched a Jew and could have refused admittance. Next, the Samaritan committed to repay the Inn Keeper for future convalescent expenses ... "when I return". So, what is going on here?
Jesus is the Good Samaritan who risked His life - gave His life - to help others, to bless others, to assist Earth's beat-up travelers. We are the Inn Keepers to whom God directs / leads / entrusts those in need and we are to assist in their convalescence.
We will not be repaid for our expenses, our inconvenience, our time until He returns ... which means the Millennium aka the Second Coming ... which means not during this life, but in the next life. You and Dennis have commented that God watches and notates the assistance we provide to those who come to our Inn (our sphere of influence) so He can correctly determine our Inn Invoice which will be payable upon His return.
The Jewish traveler was the victim of others' Free Agency to hurt him; his wounds were not self inflicted. Sometimes one's wounds are the result of unfortunate, random circumstance, not due to intentional mistreatment. These are they for whom we should reserve our resources to help, since our resources are not limitless.
When a person self-inflicts injury, we should be more careful distributing our limited resources, as Sue Prager says about giving money to pan handlers.
Those people who help to heal the wounds of others, that were inflicted by random circumstance or by criminal mistreatment, are the Inn Keepers of whom Jesus speaks. They are promised a gigantic Inn Accounts Receivable Payment "when I return". THAT is the message of the Good Samaritan parable.

Julie -- Dennis Prager said if there's no God, then merrderr (sic) is just an opinion; for this, as you noted, Dennis was chastised immensely. Well, correspond what Dennis said to Luigi, the alleged killurr (sic) of Brian Thompson. Specifically, note that many are justifying what Luigi (ostensibly) did. Thus proving Dennis is correct: If there is no God, then merrderr (sic) is but a point of view.

Murder was wrong even before the 10 commandments were given. Consider the story of Cain and Abel. Cain killed his brother Abel. Cain consequently was cursed by God.
Genesis 4:10-11 (ESV) And the LORD said "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the ground. And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened it's mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.
