It's weird how the official Betty Boop comics made Sally to be bad at singing considering that being good at singing was the entire point of her debut in this short.
@@flewtheshoe7523 Actually, you've got the wrong moment-the lines are Don't wanna mosey around with Mozart, He wrote a symphony-so what? Don't wanna beat it out with Beethoven, I like my music and my biscuits hot!
Sally Swing is voiced by Rose Marie, who was, I think, about 16 at the time. She later turned up on The Dick Van Dyke Show in the sixties...her character in that was also called Sally. I wonder if she also modeled for the rotoscoped dancing performed in this cartoon by Sally Swing?
Thank you for your reply. It's hard to think of her as being that young, as her voice sounds very adult...but she can be seen in the 1934 comedy 'International House' singing as 'Baby Rose Marie' - elevenish, but dressed younger, and with almost the same throaty tones she's using here. Rose Marie died just recently, aged 95.
I still like her from what we saw in this short. She couldn't replace Betty, but it's kind of nice to give her a female friend that isn't a wacky animal or sumthin. Just a damn entertaining singer and performer to boot. One of the most under-utilised side characters in a cartoon I've ever seen, we should bring her back along with Betty seeing as this style has resurged in popularity.
What you could do then, is use a site like RUclips Video Converter. You could extract the sound from the video, then edit it down to just the song. Let me know if it works, otherwise I could do it for you.
Why this is so clean, I’ve noticed things I haven’t seen in the others! I never noticed the words “science is golden” above the hallway to Betty’s office! Edit: and that Sally’s stage is designed with bookshelves!
This cartoon was posted elsewhere on RUclips and someone commented that Sally Swing, the bobbysoxer was supposed to replace Betty Boop, the flapper. That never happened. Ms. Boop appeared in a few more cartoons before her series ended but is still remembered. Ms. Swing appeared only in this one cartoon and was forgotten.
This cartoon introduced Sally Swing the bobby soccer who was supposed to replace Betty Boop, the flapper, in Fletcher Bros cartoons, but it was not to be. Betty Boop would go on a few more cartoons before being retired. Sally Swing was never seen again.

6:20 cool shot of the crowd and the leg/dance Edit: 3:59 and the fact it's not just the front/1 view and it got some side view/2 view makes it even more real like/immersion. As if this is a real concert, a real room. Surely they did some rotoscoping for Sally's dance.
Did you know Sally Swing was supposed to replace Betty since she isn't popular anymore after 1934,since Max Fleischer planned to do a spinoff series of musical cartoons starring Sally until his brother Dave cancelled it in favor of the Stone Age cartoons.
Well, that was the way the Fleischers loved doing their cartoons. It wasn't until they did Gulliver's Travels that they had to learn to animate lip synching to a pre-recorded track.
