    I like the Melbourne tram videos. A lot has changed in the last 40 years. Today wide plattforms at the tram stops in the City. In the old days very small safety zones for people.
    On 857 kilometers to Sydney. I think it will be a to long trip every day if you live in Melbourne and work in Sydney 😄

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  Год назад +2

      You will be more than surprised at how many tram stops have been removed from the city centre, and with both directions on the same side of the cross street, it can be a long walk from one tram line to the stop for the other street. Anyway, is it next year you are coming to check it out?
      It would be a very slow trip to Sydney by tram. Take your sleeping bag.

      Yes i am planing to come in March 2024 to Melbourne. I must fly from Frankfurt to Singapure and then change a plane to Melbourne. There is no direct flight from Frankfurt to Melbourne.
      It will be a lot of change in Melbourne. When i last lived in Melbourne the Docklands where no part of the City.
      With trams they only have the W Class and the Z Class.
      Oh man i think l am getting old😉

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  Год назад

      Okay. I’m not sure if I will be down there in March. Wait and see. There should be a few W8 class doing the city Circle Blut they crawl around these days, as they are governed to about 30 km/h. Nearly all the Z3 class are still running, the rest are new. Docklands you won’t recognise.
      As for Frankfurt airport, last night on TV news we saw it was a good place to go swimming, as well as a UBahn station doing the job of an efficient drain hole!

      @@tressteleg1 Yes the airport in Frankfurt was closed for about 8 hours. On Thursday there was a lot of rain along the middle of germany. Here in Coburg (North Bavaria) the train station was full of water and was also closed for a few hours.
      I'm watching a lot of videos about Melbourne. I do want to see a lot in my 3 weeks in Melbourne and this must be good planed before😉

    Loved it! My favourite tram route. I think if I’m ever to live in Melbourne again, I would certainly be a Brunswick hipster 😂
    Now to a technical question… @9:59 mark, the tram stops but cars are already blocking the way from doors to the footpath. What’s the driver supposed to do? I know if cars are running beside a tram and then a stop is approaching, the car driver must stop behind the tram to keep the way clear for alighting passengers. But this is a special case where drivers could not foresee the tram approaching.

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  Год назад

      That sometimes did happen anywhere. The tram driver would probably have some idea as to how long the lights would remain red, and if likely more than a few seconds would open the doors anyway. Otherwise he would keep the doors closed until cars beside the tram and moved away, and following cars seen the hazard lights on and stopped. Then he would open the doors.

    Why was the lonsdale st stop removed?

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  Год назад +2

      Just one of many removed in the city when the raised platform stops were built. I suppose if the truth be known, they got rid of them just to save the cost of construction, but in a few cases, stops were too close together such as the King Street stops in both Collins and Bourke Streets which were just a few hundred metres from the Spencer Street stops. In Swanson Street, when they removed the Victoria Street and City Baths stops and moved the Latrobe Street stop to the southern side of that intersection, it was an awful long way from Queensbury Street to that stop. But I suppose the long-suffering public knew that protesting would be a waste of time.

    • @justinwright4833
      @justinwright4833 Год назад

      @@tressteleg1 so I'm guessing its also why there are numbers skipped as well right? Coz it goes like stop 1,3,5 or whatever it is

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  Год назад +2

      @justinwright4833 Generally when a number is missing, a former tram stop is missing. The only exception is when two lines may meet and join a single line, like where the 70 joins the 75 at the back of the old Hawthorne depot, Riversdale Road will run in sequence with the numbers of 75 or 70 so one of those routes is sure to have a different number of stops so one of those routes will suddenly jump numbers.

      When I was a kid, the older folk would tell me ‘you can please some of the people, some of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time’. I miss those simpler days. The 1990’s visiting Melbourne. The 2000’s visiting Sydney as well. So much has changed, I sometimes wonder how much good some of the change has been. Your videos allow me to remember my childhood, for which you have my thanks. I’m only 32, but due to health issues I can’t recall things that occurred barely 5 years ago. These, and other videos like it remind me.
