Only an idiot would go with a single playmaker - as we saw vs Wales yesterday, it's a shitty, boring, limited idea not fit for a tier 1 nation. If Farrell plays 10 then you must have Slade at 13, or Malins at 15 - and Slade isn't in the squad. So the no-brainer is 10. Ford, 12. Farrell. Daly is quality, makes my team on the wing but he's not a 2nd playmaker. However Farrell has now got himself suspended, which means Ford must play 10. Which, by process of elimination, means Malins must play 15. Borthwick won't do this, neither will 90% of England fans, which is why you'll get the turgid shitfest they deliver and we deserve. Dropping Steward may seem sacrilegious but it has to happen. JvP's injury yesterday looked nothing less than a blessing in disguise, he's been mostly awful in a white shirt. For all that he should have been retired 4 years ago, Youngs seems to be the only option to start at 9.
My concern for England especially against the stronger scrummaging sides is our lack of depth of specislist tighthead locks or #5. From what i see all are more suited as 4's. This will work against lighter packs and offer a more more mobile player. But it looks like Borthwick is relying on the tighthead prop to get partity and relying that the ball exits the scrum quickly. Looking at how solid the Irish, French, Boks are in the scrum, their tighthead prop is locked in with a specialist #5 and is in a better position to dominate the loosehead and disrupt the opposition putin
Malins is someone who actually finishes moves and scores tries, something this team is struggling to do. Agree arundel pace is frightening and will get plenty on minutes but I want to see him of the bench against fatigued line will rinse them.
@@nathanreed5456 the point is you start your most destructive and influential players.. If a talent like Arundell gets discovered in New Zealand, they start him and give him game time and experience so you can develop into a world class talent.. England need to stop playing so rigid and safe.. This is why we are seeing absolutely zero from attack and no tries..
@@wilkinson83 true but Malins is a proven try scorer had fantastic season but team around him aren't aren't him into position and will be same no matter who pick. Get the ball and running head down into opposition won't get Arundell into the game either.
@@nathanreed5456 I agree and I’m not saying Malin is the problem, the whole strategy and structure is at fault.. but in my opinion Malins is a great talent and a well rounded player at club level, but for me is not quick enough at international level.. look at our main world opposition wingers like Penaud for France or Kolby for SA or Rees-Zammit for Wales.. etc
Cannot recall a world cup that seemed so uninspiring. Despite the amazing pool of players we have , how we should be right up there to win we dont have a “team” there has been no momentum in the last 12 months at all.
Personally I think you have to play lawes at second row with maro. Curry and Earl on the flanks with billy at 8. You need a second row that is feared and can do the dog stuff, I don’t think Martin is ready yet, lawes you can’t drop and neither Curry even though he’s struggled with injuries he has proved himself so many times. Earl is playing some of his best rugby ever, his carrying ability and tackle rate is something you can’t leave out. Willis is such an energetic player who is a finisher Imo
Exactly what I have been saying for years. STOP flapping about build a backline around Faz at 10 as he’s the best 10 we have. The back 5 in the scrum is so open which is a worry. Ask 100 people and we all differ so much.
Fiji, Tonga and Samoa go through so much poverty. If anyone is selected to play Rubgy for their Country, it MUST always be total respect. They chuck everything at their game. Fiji will be a contender. These teams have the determination England lacks.
I know playing Lawes at 2nd row gives effectively 4 back row players, possibly 5 if Maro can rediscover himself. Although that will limit Lawes somewhat, the Team is the big thing rather than the individual. I know this from my own time at school. With 5 back row players you then just have to claim the front row as a performing brick wall at set scrums. That’s all that’s needed from them, apparat from not giving away penalties. Behind the scrum? Who knows? They don’t know how to run incisive lines of attack, they haven’t done it for years. Without the ball playing ability of Slade, they won’t have a clue.
Hopefully England comes back, but not for this world cup, just hope England and Argentina knock each other hard.I believe my Samoa can shock Argentina and the strangest thing to me is that we haven't play the Argies in a LONG TIME,like what the heck.
I can't believe England dropped Alex Mitchell, he was their stand out player during the 6N. He changed the whole dynamic of the back play and his darting runs from the base created momentum. I can only assume he's carrying an injury or told borthwick to get f@çked.
Daly had a run for England where it was the worst run of games Iv ever seen from a England player. Great as a squad player but cannot start if we have any desire to beat big teams. Lawrence and manu no other option
@@thecuttingsark5094 ow mate his best position is for sure 13 and ye he had a crazy run for wasps that earned that credit in the bank. I’m just not sure he’s ever been any good for England really
I’m not convinced on Malins either but you can’t deny how much he scores for Sarries and considering the recent revolving door of England wingers, he has looked fairly decent
What I love about Scotland, is that they represent their Country properly, coupla Kiwis in there but they don't poach. Why doesn't England have that same Pride anymore?.
Scotsman here, you realise that 4 of our starting team this weekend we’re born in South Africa, one in tonga, and one in Australia(no kiwis). I consider all of them Scottish as they play for Scotland, but don’t pretend Scotland don’t have foreign born players
Hope they get knocked out at group stages so that someone might actually sort out the mess that is English rugby. Also just won’t have to watch the dirge that England play. If we fluke our way to the latter stages it will just paper over again.
Who starts in your team for the opening weekend in Marseille? 🌹

Malins is not got enough pace for an international winger, Arundell is absolutely box office and should start...
Drives me insane this. He finally got the ball in the 79th minute of the Australia tour, and immediately scored with his first touch.

Yawn
Playing ur props as ur main ball carriers is fine until u play teams like SA...or Argentina. Then they will get broken in the scrum.
This is true, we've not looked strong in the scrum for years. Need a big 5
I’ll settle for a team which can catch and pass and doesn’t make 22 unforced handling errors. Is that too much to ask from an international squad?
As long as you've got a WC red card milkman in Faz it shouldn't be a problem

Not sure. I would rather him than Martin.

So Mailins who’s no form on the wing gets in before Arundell the wonder kid!
I’m not convinced on Malins either but you can’t deny how much he scores for Sarries and considering the recent revolving door of England wingers, he has looked fairly decent
I can hear you breathing into the microphone ffs
None of whom matter under a coach who’s Eddie Jones-Light..
England was embarrassing against Wales after a month of supposedly intense RWC preparation!
England were massively dominant in that game and it was England's C team. 16 handling errors and no lineout were the issues.
Someone tell Tindall to stop breathing through his nose right by the mic! Sounds like a broken vacuum cleaner
the shirt + belt look tight😅😅
Farrell ha sto play, he can get away with anything!
How can you possibly pick a XV when no one knows what England’s game plan is? Big boys won’t cut it against the skilled teams!

England are non-starters for 2023.
Will never understand how people would rate Willis over Curry? Just not as good at rugby
I’ve watched him playing at Toulouse. If he can carry his form into the international stage then he would be a force to be reckoned with
