This was hands down the most enjoyable, easy to watch, informative version of this I’ve ever seen. Solid work dude! Camera angle, the way it’s worded, and quality was perfect.
Like my mother, I found you initially annoying until I realised that you know what you're talking about! Thanks for that clear and concise video - top marks.
Great video. You do a good job going step by step without being too wordy. Some guys draw out their instructions without actually giving any real information. Always cool to see some of the more basic mods. Helps to refresh your memory. One thing I might add: I like to replace a couple of the bolts with studs. It really helps line up the manifold so you don't shift it around on the RTV as you drop it down on the heads. Also, I like to put a very light coat of sealant on the bolts/studs that go through the water passage. It seems to help stop the very small amount of coolant that can weep past over the years and helps stop the threads for seizing.
+Dan Mallery Thanks man! YES - both of those are really good call outs. I wish I would have put at least two studs in to help line everything up. And I did put a little RTV on the bolts, just forgot to call it out on the video. Thanks for the feedback!
I have four 4-inch long studs I put in the corners to align the manifold so it goes down straight. Once the manifold is seated, I put in the other 8 bolts, and then replace the studs with bolts. No muss. No fuss. Also, the two center sets of bolts go into the water jacket ion my heads, so I put RTV around those as well.
i think most people are scared to just try something. like using a new tool. putting on new parts. ive always been handy, but in 2000 i bought 3 broncos to make one. i didnt know alot about cars and trucks then. as i tore apart and put together it was all trial and error. but now i can rip apart anything and almost put anything together. took me almost 3 years to "finish" my bronco. well we all know a bronco is never finished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! your doing a great job!
+jjt jp SERIOUSLY! Doing these videos has made me really pay attention to what I'm doing. I do so much research now. The best part is, I love doing it. Thanks for the encouragement
Thank you for all the Content I have a 79 Bronco and it's going to be my first truck so this is a big help for all my projects that I have to do with the truck
I'm glad that RUclips spies on me and recommended me this video as a great refresher for tomorrow's project that I actually forgot about till now haha great video!
From the factory no thread sealer was used, instead Ford used a washer under all the bolt heads except the two on the front and rear to seal from any leaks.
+Charles Harrison oh man, I hope you were seeing things, yikes! I thinks it's just hard to see, and I skipped past it. Just checked. It looks like it's there
Any problems since you didn’t apply RTV to the drivers side water port? What’s the reason for putting RTV on back ports if they are non functional ? thanks!!!
I for got the oil shaft to but all that happens is it drops in the bottom of oil pan you can install new one dont worry about the old one it will be in bottom of pan if you ever remove the oil pan lot guys laughed when i did that i had no clue lol nice build
well did u see the mess up he did he missed a water port and u dont have to put RTV around the water ports if u install it right and toq it down right then there no leaks from the water port
I really liked the video! I'm going to check out your others. I find it helps to use compressed air to blow off top of intake manifold before pulling it.
Thanks so much for this video! It's helped me a lot. You mentioned the rear coolant ports are blocked off by the manifold, the manifold I am installing on my 289 blocks the front coolant ports. Is this the same?
noticed you did not rtv the top of the gasket on the water jacket (seen (or not seen) at the 8:07 min. mark on the lower rt corner... did you get leaks? doing a 289 today - great video!
Super informative, thanks! What wiring harness runs to your distributor? I'm rebuilding a 73 ford boogie van from scratch really and am trying to figure everything out, first build for me.
David G. I've got a mine swapped over, you have to cut a hole in the floor on the driver's side of the tranny hump and just follow the directions that come with the shifter for the installation
I believe that the intake gaskets were installed upside down. head side up. the blue writing should be on the other side. from my interpretation. as well if you zoom into the image you can read it.
What year Engine is that? My 1985 302 has same egr valve. I would love to do this but SO MANY SO MANY vacuum hose and dumb sensors mine isnt running right because of all vacuum shit sounds like jet starting up sucks so much air idk what to do i aint going this far with this engine its a 1985 ltd crown vic or something like that its a boat ugly as shit but trans took crap in my ranger this is my only option or buy new one which i don't want to.
Did you use the stock 2 inch bolts? Putting a aluminum intake on my 302 and the stock 2” bolts feel short but maybe once it starts pulling down it will be ok. Thanks
Hey john awesome video I just went through the same process installing the same manifold. I was wondering though were you able to use your stock temperature sensor on the edelbrock intake? It seems that the threads are different on the sensor and the manifold.
+Chance Armstrong interesting, I didn't use the stock sensor because fitech sends a new one that works with their system. I didn't even realize my stock one wouldn't fit. Good to know.
I had an Edelbrock F4B which was basically designed and replicated the intakes on Shelby Mustangs on three of my old Broncos with a Carter 625 CFM back in the late 70's in Highscool. 289 bored 30 over w/ 10 to 1 pistons and aggressive cam and left mustangs behind in a cloud of burnt rubber... unfortunately the original F4B 's have become very hard to find them very expensive... building my fourth one and all though I would love to put fuel injection in it I'm going to keep it old school.... anyone know whether they know product or others are replicating the old F4B . Thanks... by the way that's not me that's my kid
Great video. My intake is leaking coolant from the front and back so I'm guessing the silicone seal is bad. I plan on replacing my manifold with an Edelbrock. I think you used the Edelbrock Performer 289. Is there a reason you didn't use the Performer 302? I didn't know if there was a fitment issue with your carb/FiTech setup. Thanks and keep up the great work.
"Less weight on the engine is always a good thing " .... Buddy it's and intake manifold.... It's not a moving part ... There for that makes no sense at all lol...
Haha true! I should have said less weight on the bronco. But really, how much difference, 5 pounds?!? That’s like saying my bronco will go faster if I drop a couple pounds 😂
This was hands down the most enjoyable, easy to watch, informative version of this I’ve ever seen. Solid work dude! Camera angle, the way it’s worded, and quality was perfect.
Thank you!
I am surprised why u don’t have much followers. Way more cleaner and calmer than many car guys videos with those annoying music stuff. Keep it up man!
Thanks man
well looks like he forgot one of the coolant ports with the gasket maker on top of the gasket lol
Like my mother, I found you initially annoying until I realised that you know what you're talking about! Thanks for that clear and concise video - top marks.

Very good guide. Covered the little stuff like making sure your distrib's all good and how to apply RTV well. Preciate it
Glad it was helpful!

Nice! Where did you get the studs in the corners? I think that’s what I need to do

I liked your video. NO BS, just the facts. Well done.
Thank you!

Awesome! Happy to help
Bought an Rx7 with a leaky 302 5.0.. first time doing this. Nice vid. Made it seem very possible. Thanks.!
Such a good video. Clean, clear, and concise ! Keep em coming!
Thank you!
I'm glad that RUclips spies on me and recommended me this video as a great refresher for tomorrow's project that I actually forgot about till now haha great video!
Haha! It’s so true man. They are always listening! Hope it helps with your project
I prefer a washer between the bolt head and the aluminum manifold. Actually, I put new grade 8 bolts in too.
You don't really need to remove the distributor on a Ford if you're careful. I didn't when I put new heads on! Great video!👍
Wish I had known this
I would have mentioned cleaning out bolt holes and running a tap Thu them.
No need. Just cross thread em and let the next guy figure it out... That seems like the mentality of most of my cars previous owners😂
Why remove the distributor if it does not go through the manifold?
It makes it easier to remove the manifold
what did you put on the bolts before installing them into the head? Thread Sealant? engine assembly lube? RTV?
From the factory no thread sealer was used, instead Ford used a washer under all the bolt heads except the two on the front and rear to seal from any leaks.
Is there a difference in power?
@ 8:08 you forgot to rtv a water port
Both on the drivers side
What kind of water inlet and temp sending unit did u use
Was i seeing things or did you forget to put RTV on top of the gasket on the front left water port?
+Charles Harrison oh man, I hope you were seeing things, yikes! I thinks it's just hard to see, and I skipped past it. Just checked. It looks like it's there
I saw the same thing.. I went back and checked.. it wasn't in there on the driver's side. Good video otherwise! Thanks.
+Mike Heytens yeah, now I see it. You guys are right
Any problems since you didn’t apply RTV to the drivers side water port? What’s the reason for putting RTV on back ports if they are non functional ? thanks!!!
Wow this is an oldie!! 😉😎
Haha! Going back!
I for got the oil shaft to but all that happens is it drops in the bottom of oil pan you can install new one dont worry about the old one it will be in bottom of pan if you ever remove the oil pan lot guys laughed when i did that i had no clue lol nice build

Awesome video, straight to the point and helped me out on my 66 Mustang, Cheers
Excellent! It’s crazy how similar the mustang, bronco, and ford trucks are
Getting ready to do the same on my 66 mustang. Thanks for the video. This will help a ton.
Great video..after u initially tighten down how long do u let it sit? Do u tighten again after it sits?
I usually just let it sit over night, but I don’t think you have to. The package should say
I really liked the video! I'm going to check out your others.
I find it helps to use compressed air to blow off top of intake manifold before pulling it.
Great video. What carburetor do you have? is it a 2bb? If so, going to that edelbrock that supports a 4bb, have you had any issues?
I went EFI. At the time I had the FiTech, now I have the Edelbrock ProFlo
Thanks so much for this video! It's helped me a lot. You mentioned the rear coolant ports are blocked off by the manifold, the manifold I am installing on my 289 blocks the front coolant ports. Is this the same?
You are welcome! I’m not sure on the 289. I would imagine it’s the same but I’m not sure.
noticed you did not rtv the top of the gasket on the water jacket (seen (or not seen) at the 8:07 min. mark on the lower rt corner... did you get leaks? doing a 289 today - great video!
I ended up pulling it and fixing it after I posted the video. No leaks, but I wanted to be safe.
Super informative, thanks! What wiring harness runs to your distributor? I'm rebuilding a 73 ford boogie van from scratch really and am trying to figure everything out, first build for me.
6:47 Its begging you for a Holly Sniper DFI
Great vids. My first comment and quickly becoming a huge fan. Love your style, great info and you show all the problems you run into
Thank you!
I might attempt this sometime this week. Wish me luck!
Good Luck!
I have a Ford cast iron 4 barrel intake 289/302
anyone know if I can put a Edelbrock 1403 carburetor on this stock Ford intake. I have the same one in this snapshot of this video
Another great informative video. Do you have any info on converting a 3 speed on the column, and converting to the floor? Thanks
+David G. Not yet, that would be a good topic to get later
So you didnt let the rtv dry befor you torque the bolts?
No i didn’t. I let it get tacky, but not dry
What kind of carburetor is that, the one he just took off?
Stock, 2bbl Autolite 2150
mrxray741 Stock, 2bbl Autolite 2150
hey, you didn't talk about that thing on the old stock manifold, it has a out ley coming out.

Another good video. I'm rebuilding the 2150 on one of my Bronco's now..
+BellyUpFish oh nice! Are you going to post a video about it?
Probably should have, but I didn't. Just wanted to get it done. LOL
+BellyUpFish haha! Yeah I get it
Hey john awesome video I just went through the same process installing the same manifold.
Same way with a 289 I presume? What size 4 barrel would you go with?
Same way. Any dual plane will work
I had an Edelbrock F4B which was basically designed and replicated the intakes on Shelby Mustangs on three of my old Broncos with a Carter 625 CFM back in the late 70's in Highscool.
Thanks... by the way that's not me that's my kid
eye dole brock?
someone know the presure and order to fit back the screws of the first intake manifold?
Same order but 23-25 ftlbs.of torque
What gasket did you use for the intake?
Felpro amzn.to/2GsZN6a
you forgot rtv on the front drivers side water port on the gasket side!
efi next, that will be great. you could mention cost of manifold and efi when you get to that. are you building a mostly street or 50/50 off road?
+ron wilson mostly street, not crazy power. But I'm thinking about doing an engine rebuild if I find a cheap 351
Same process as a 351W right?
I believe it’s pretty close, but can’t speak to if it’s exactly the same
No CAM change? WHY?
What do you use for all your video editing?
+Brian's Bronco Adventura adobe premiere on a MacBook Pro
Hi I'm putting the same intake on my 302 did you use the stock intake bolts that was on the motor already???
No I had to get new bolts. I forget which ones I bought
Nashville Early Bronco okay thanks
Aren’t you supposed to take the old heat shield from the old intake and put on new intake
I’m not sure, I need to check
Nashville Early Bronco I was just watching a TV show and they said you have to install it to stop splash ups in certain spots
Interesting. I’ll look into that
Great content. Thank you
dude, you forget the RTV on the front driver's side water port
Yep, I’ve since fixed it. So dumb.
+Massey Rodriguez no reason, I think they are basically the same intake
Good job John your moving along quickly . What do you have left to do ? I take it your not going as far as Matt with the body coming off .
+James Mitchell Thanks James! Yeah, Matt's going crazy, I'm not going that far 😜 but I'm still installing a new dizzy, fuel tank, and FiTech EFI
You forgot to apply rtv to the driver side front water port top of gasket.
You are correct! Someone else pointed that out to me 🤦🏼♂️
you forgot to put RTV on the right side water ports ... !!!!
I did! I’ve already taken the intake off and fixed it
Step 1 unhook the battery
Step 2 drain coolant
"Less weight on the engine is always a good thing " .... Buddy it's and intake manifold.... It's not a moving part ... There for that makes no sense at all lol...
Haha true! I should have said less weight on the bronco. But really, how much difference, 5 pounds?!? That’s like saying my bronco will go faster if I drop a couple pounds 😂
Talks to much and is silly.get to the subject
Smells like beef and cheese
your gonna be sorry you converted it
