Kevin does this for a living and Dave went for 6 months because he saw it as a money grab. (Because this was back in 2009 and it led to him being on national talk shows)
The only difference between him and Timothy Treadwell is these lions are born into captivity. despite being in captivity can be ferocious, especially near their cubs. It just takes an expert like him to know how to handle these big creatures. Now, Timothy Treadwell on the other hand, his friends were all basically wild bears. Any chance one of them can just rip him apart and well, we know that happened.
Dave needs to call Anna Breitenbach. And make it much more easier, kinder and faster. Animal communication is what will help. His methods are very.... unnatural. He is definitely a showman. There are two men in this video. One is an egotistical (he admitted it himself) idiot "lion tamer" trying to make lions be calm with tourists by shouting at them. The other has worked in the conservation of lions for decades having a sanctuary for poor lions that have been kept in captivity by morons. This man is a man of the bush who has studied every aspect of lions, even their "language" which him mimics pretty flawlessly. He has never been a lion "tamer". This is Kevin and it's very obvious that this video has done him a big disservice lumping him in with that clown Dave. It's obvious because so many commenters thought it was one man. 60 minutes you can do better than this!
Dave has nerves of steel. Imagine his heart rate everytime an aggressive man eating lions approach him without anything for his security. It is one thing to deal with lions that you know since childhood other to tame the deadliest full grown lions that you never had any interaction before
UPDATE: You'll want to read replies to this comment. It's safe to assume that it's not safe to assume! Do research on both of these individuals. The Lions are in a very tough climate right now and we don't need any new Grizzly men trying to save a new cause. Albeit, there may be some good coming from the folks trying- there is more to the story. Thanks Lazey and Mel for the insight! I stand corrected and appreciate the info! Original Comment I posted: Two Stories and Two Insanely Different Lion Activists/Trainers/Guides I suppose: Kevin seems wise and very genuine, but he also has patience- we've seen this guy for years doing this work with animals that aren't wild. Dave seems like he's just trying to make tourist money and he might learn the hard way, scares me how that guy doubts himself. It's because he's not fully secure and safe. To be honest, Dave needs some spray, backup gun, taser, ass scent or something to deter lions- just in case. Maybe he does have proper gear and safety protocols, but the way he acted when he was doubting himself when that one lion was charging him... You can tell that he's learning as he goes but you can also tell that he kind of has the Showmanship like the Grizzly Man... I'm pretty certain that Kevin knows way more and would be way safer to be with around Wild animals. He'd at least know what they are capable of and probably knew that Dave should have backed up off the quad from the get go, maybe masked his scent or did certain things an expert or professional might do. I don't know, I'm just saying if anyone is reading this and you're ever in a dangerous situation.. in that situation, if you see your guide or whoever is leading you start to lose their grip or confidence, always look into that because it's not always about knowing what to do, sometimes it's about knowing not what to do too. You can make up stuff as you go but faking it till you make it in a dangerous situation is very risky! If anything, Safety first and all things come second when dealing with mother nature! This may sound stupid but there's going to be some kids out there one day watching this and one of them is going to read this and remember what I said. Nevertheless, I wish well to both Kevin and Dave and hope they both thrive!
My brother was a wildlife conservationist in Namibia and South Africa for many years. Wild animal trainers such as Dave Salvoni are not ultimately interested in the welfare of the animals. There is a lot of cruelty involved in training wild animals and that's why this has been banned in many countries.
Dave Salamoni used to work at the Bowmanville Zoo and uses the same abusive training techniques that earned that zoo such a bad reputation... He is NOT a good guy. Richardson's experiment has gotten a woman killed when he lost track of one of his lionesses in 2018. I think the lioness was killed afterwards but it's hard to find articles following it up so I can't confirm it- he has more invested in PR than actual conservation. There's a reason why so many legitimate conservationists are speaking against his methods- they don't work.
@@lazeywinde6113 wow. That's interesting. Thank you for sharing. It seems like I was wrong with assuming Kevin's history and now it is pretty apparent that these lions are in much more challenging times. I feel like I need to do more research before commenting too soon about things.
In 2018 a woman was fatally mauled to death by one of Richardson's lionesses. The woman did nothing wrong, if Richardson had not taught the lioness to be so accustomed to humans the lioness would have avoided the woman.
It is pretty amazing because he’s a human joining a lion pride and considering he using tactics like running away from a lion when lions chase their prey because it’s there natural instinct to see a animal as food when their prey runs from them. But I still find it hard to believe because this short documentary doesn’t show us actually who he joins a pride of Lions besides showing us from the beginning witch is still hard for me to be convinced because progression like that should be shown at the end of a documentary. No wonder this documentary is considered controversial.
Thank you Kevin and Dave for helping preserve Africa's big cat numbers and shedding a light on the issue of their dwindling population for decades now. ❤😊
Beautiful. Thank you for being so good with these magnificent prides xoxo I also think that even if a lion is aggressive towards humans, it does not justify killing the animal. Take it up with the people who showed them ruthless abuse, poaching and killing for sport.
Lions usually aren't aggressive to humans unless the lion is hurt, sick, or had an egotistical moron like Richardson teach them to ignore their natural fear towards humans. You can't blame animal abusers, poachers or hunters for the 2018 incident involving one of RIchrdson's lionesses and a woman who never hurt a lion in her life.
@@lazeywinde6113 where did you get that info. Lions WILL attack a human if they think they can win. They normally don't approach large groups of humans. I'm a zoo keeper and the lion caretaker.
@@RichardPicture You're basing what you know about lions solely on your experiences with CAPTIVE zoo lions who were basically raised by humans and long ago lost their natural fear of humans. Lions that grew up in the wild generally avoid humans when they can. After a wild lion that preyed on humans gets itself shot they tend to find that the lion was sick, injured or just too old to go after its normal prey during the necropsy.

The animals' natural habitat barely exists anymore, sadly. Reserves are becoming the only safe places for them to survive. Humans have encroached on the natural habitat of all wildlife and they often clash. Lions eat livestock... Humans shoot the lions. It's no longer an option
This is why Kevin Richardson started his sanctuary. To make people aware of the problem and keep lions wild. Kevin only has lions who were born into captivity and is hoping he is soon no longer needed. Dave isn't anywhere near the man Kevin is!! Kevin has never tried to go into the wild and domesticate the animals.

No. They don't like humans. What's the question? Protect them, be their embassadors, keep their environment safe...but leave evolution alone. The attraction of safaris makes my soul sad. There is so much more to do than disturb an unwarranted participant in goals that are little more than an exploitation & photo opportunities...human or animal. Keep the lions safe, but leave them be. That won't end well. It never does. The world changes fast not just for animals. We all have to adapt all the time. For some there just isn't a place anymore. I increasingly feel like that myself.
That moment of running away would be a hard barrier to break as it brings out the prey instincts, if he could halt a charge the interactions would be interesting over time.
It was just marvelous that you saved the cub from certain death, but I was shocked that the lioness accepted it back. Why in the first place was the lioness going to kill it, I missed that part.
"Grizzly man" was a self-induced tragedy of epic proportions. A complete rookie, done without planning, in the middle of the summer, with a camp set in the bears feeding area. These men are 1000 miles from that approach, and will likely never experience any risk they didn't PLAN for ahead of time.

This is a very old video. Its funny to see how black Kevin's hair was, its all grey now lol. Kevin is doing great, he has been doing this for over 20 years. He's still with the lions to this day at his sanctuary, still spreading the message. He has a channel here on youtube called "The lion whisperer" if anyone wants to see him.
You are really a brave man and intertaining the whole world.brilliant job.thanks
Dave is playing with fire 🔥
Firstly they're Lions,don't have to use man-eating as a prefix.They're not man-eating Lion's.
Two great and brave men. I 💛 only wish them long healthy and successful lives. Thank you 💛 all for sharing this beautiful documentary. 💜
Dave is a legend Kev still with us
That dude Dave has some big brass!
No comparison between these two men
Kevin is well adapted to the lions because he has raised them since they were young but David is pushing his luck,he better leave the wild one's alone or they will gang on him one day and he won't have a chance.
Kevin does this for a living and Dave went for 6 months because he saw it as a money grab. (Because this was back in 2009 and it led to him being on national talk shows)
Some of the lions are wild lions.

A lion born in captivity is a wild lion.
It is impossible to tame a lion as well as many other animals.
And he IS doing it for recognition. Whether he realizes or not.
I mean... he was on Jimmy Kimmel show few times.
😂😂
I have admiration for these guys. What an amazing life.❤
Kevin is amazing, much respect
This is waaay risky to this man's life. Training mature lions that have had hostile interactions with humans is not really a good idea
That is what makes these men so amazing! They know the risks, just like anyone who signs on the be a police officer or fireman, they do it because it's a cause worth laying your life down for, it's selfless and just so admirable. I can't see why anyone would put them down for this! They are not stupid. They know they are putting their lives on the line. These animals are beautiful, and humans have killed so many animals, have ruined the planet with our greed and waste. These 2 men are amazing to lay their lives down to save species in danger if extinction ❤ give the praise not hate. Learn from their example
You mean like Siegfried and Roy, with their Animals on circus? And one tiger attacked one of them?
@@artisthusnatalal3099 not sure if your questions are to me or OP?
@@PatchouliPenny For the main comment 🙂
Dave has nerves of steel. Imagine his heart rate everytime an aggressive man eating lions approach him without anything for his security. It is one thing to deal with lions that you know since childhood other to tame the deadliest full grown lions that you never had any interaction before
That guy Dave, I truly wish him the best but he's wishing his luck.
Oh how the cautionary tale of Timothy Treadwell and Amie Huguenard seems quite applicable to this story.
Richardon's experiment already got one woman killed in 2018.

Original Comment I posted:
Two Stories and Two Insanely Different Lion Activists/Trainers/Guides I suppose:
Kevin seems wise and very genuine, but he also has patience- we've seen this guy for years doing this work with animals that aren't wild.
I get the same feeling regarding the Dave guy.
@@tuckingfwit thanks Mel!
I hope they sign a waiver just in case something goes wrong that the lions must not be harmed, it's the humans' fault. 🤨🤨
They'll be shot if they kill a human.
And it is the human's fault that they will be shot@@RichardPicture
In 2018 a woman was fatally mauled to death by one of Richardson's lionesses. The woman did nothing wrong, if Richardson had not taught the lioness to be so accustomed to humans the lioness would have avoided the woman.
@@lazeywinde6113 lions are natural predators why would you think they wouldn't kill if they were tamed?
@@RichardPicture Where the hell did I say that?
Be safe Kevin and the other guy
You are wonderful
God be with you for the wonderful works
Beautiful. Thank you for being so good with these magnificent prides xoxo I also think that even if a lion is aggressive towards humans, it does not justify killing the animal. Take it up with the people who showed them ruthless abuse, poaching and killing for sport.
😂
Funniest thing I've read all day.....

Vow! What a video it is. How dare these guys go so near to and interact with lions so intimately. I am a Zoologist and pet lover, yet am quite taken aback for it is more than enough to dare so. How a man with high Ego can do so, I know not.... Hurrah.
That is wrong on so many levels
Man this is at least 10 years old. The only thing I don’t know is, is Dave Salmoni still alive?
Wondering same thing, there are current videos of Kevin everywhere but this is first time I heard of Dave.
I have a strong feeling Dave is now Lion faecal matter.
No he's still alive
There is only one reason why that pride was so aggressive it is because they want to be left alone having someone following you and talking to you like a child is good way to piss them off I know it would certainly piss me off so mr salomi live these magnificent predators alone otherwise you may well end up their next meal .
This man is taunting the lions, its not the correct way to help these lions. He just doing this for his own image and to increase his viewers.

There are two men in this video. One has been working with lions for years and really knows his stuff. The other is an American. I'm actually annoyed Kevin was lumped in a video with that other idiot trying to make lions calm so that they accept humans gawking at them. From what I have seen of Kevin over the decades that's never been what he's about. Yes he might die by lion attack one day but it's a risk he has always been aware of. He even "speaks" their language with incredible imitation of their various vocalisations instead of shouting aggressively, he's never done that. In fact even the walking backwards trick that American finally got some success with is a trick learned from watching Kevin interact with a completely wild pride.
Dave is a wild man 😂
Lion lookin at that guy like “Really? You again?”
I never heard of this Dave before…To me his methods and reasoning are truely disturbing.
I hated watching him.
This is all wrong wrong wrong. Give the animals back their natural habitants instead of squeezing them into these flimsy nature reserves.
The animals' natural habitat barely exists anymore, sadly. Reserves are becoming the only safe places for them to survive. Humans have encroached on the natural habitat of all wildlife and they often clash. Lions eat livestock... Humans shoot the lions. It's no longer an option
Poaching, Poaching, Poaching.
Kevin is a living legend, and he will be for ages ....he will change all the creation, not only some humans' mentality
Dave is a next level Kevin.
At 12:50 he gives such a bad ass speech 👍
Fact is unless we as humans learn to live alongside Animals then OUR days are numbered.

This was informative, but unsettling.
