Sometimes the list of ingredients alone tells you the drink is going to work...this recipe is one of those. Intriguing and definitely a "must try". A curaco taste off would be interesting. They are quite different. Thanks again for another entertaining, intriguing and enjoyable video.

Having each of your friends bringing 1 bottle over, you may end up mixing a Graveyard Cocktail.

I think the Bacardi with a Blue Caraco would make a nice hard blue lemonade :-)

If you're making it a pitcher drink shake with ice, strain ice out into pitcher and refrigerate, pour over fresh ice for each drink. Less dilution, unless you think the drink can stand up to it.

That Dillon's gin has that banana aroma on its own, to me. I'd guess the light rum let's it come through more.

So confused by triple sec, Curacao, cointreau, and grand Marnier.

    • @HowlinMadMurphy123
      @HowlinMadMurphy123 3 года назад +2

I think they described the difference in a previous episode. IMO, all are orange liqueurs, Cointreau is a high end triple sec, Grand Marnier is a high end Curacao (blended with cognac). "Triple Sec" has just become a generic term for "orange liqueur" over the years.

That's interesting that you get a "banana" smell from those drinks. My boyfriend's Bullet Rye has the slight scent of bananas to me.

I find a banana note in several different Rums.
Heat in my experience has less to do with ABV than the cuts made by the distiller. I believe the heads (not the forshots, heads) tend to be hotter and I have heard of a banana note being a fault in whiskys typically found in too much of the heads ending up in the product. That might explain part of the differences found.
Typically higher age (to whisky at least) also means mellowing out the rougher edges.
Looks like a great cocktail, will be trying it in the near future

Bacardi carries the alcohol flavor through any drink. That is why I generally use an aged or spiced rum.

To me, Bacardi always smells faintly of benzene, just like what I used to smell in the organic chemistry lab, C6H6. Of course it can’t actually contain any… I hope.

This reminds me of how Tasting History’s historic lemonade recipe had a little bit of orange juice in too. It just added sweetness and accentuated the lemon.
I bet the curaçao does basically the same thing here to make it sweeter and less cocktail-y.
Putting this in a pitcher sounds great, beats Pimm’s!

Hey, you mentioned the possibility of doing a tasting of how your various Curacaos altered a cocktail. Before you do that, do yourselves a favor and check out How to Drink's attempt to do something similar and learn from his mistake. Long story short, he went to do a grid tasting of (I believe old fashioneds, but it's one of the various whiskey + vermouth cocktails) and didn't realize just how much he was going to wind up drinking even just taking a few sips that way.
    Here's a link:
    ruclips.net/video/_QsCrcLG6Mo/видео.html
He also later did something similar with margaritas, where he talked about what he changed to avoid that. Trying to do something cool and accidentally winding up uncomfortably drunk sucks, so I'd definitely recommend borrowing some of what he changed the second time around to save yourselves from having to go through that.

Okay fair enough but Yanks need to know that not everybody follows their rules, so for example I almost got arrested in Berkely Cal for drinking a bottle of beer in peoples park in 1986 which I didn't understand was illegal, fortunately I was able to convince the cops that I didn't realise it was illegal, and promised to never repeat the incident., I honestly think they mostly let me go because of my (for them) British novelty accent which they seemed to get off on, like they could tell their mates in the cop shop they had an English guy who spoke real British but they didn't arrest LoL @@GlenAndFriendsCooking
