    I love seeing all the comments from all ages....to know the younger people appreciate and loved Aretha and her impact on music. I will never forget the first time I heard her...1968, a shy small town white girl, her first time away from home, in college, involved with the protest and civil rights. Someone played Natural Woman, Respect...I had never felt someone dig down and touch my soul as I did the first time I heard her and through the years . RIP dear Queen, you will always be The Queen of Soul.

You can choose to do an assignment and possibly learn something or you can just say no, the consequence to saying no is probably not so great, but certainly you have a choice. P.s. I learned the hard way saying no didn’t work out so well.

    Picture this: Aretha living in her dad’s big house, Aretha and Smokey becomes lifelong friends and then around the corner, Diana Ross ....all within blocks of themselves. Detroit had to be a very exciting place ......the Queen of Soul, the Queen of Motown and one of the greatest poets/songwriters/producers, Smokey Robinson all transcends the Brewster Projects...a golden period in time and space.

    • @frankiefranklin5576
      @frankiefranklin5576 6 лет назад +2

      Bochanable. No that wasn't true, Aretha lived in a beautiful home in city of Detroit. Her pastor dad had plenty of money. No projects for the Franklin's.

    • @Bochanable
      @Bochanable 6 лет назад +3

      Frankie Franklin You misunderstood me. I have seen Rev.C.L. Franklin’s home.
      I simply said they lived blocks from each other.
      Diana grew up in the Brewster Projects.
      Aretha’s first home in the south was quite humble.
      But Aretha, Smokey and Diana lived blocks from each other. I never said Aretha lived in the Projects.
      The amount of talent that lived in Detroit at one time was simply staggering.
      Unfortunately, it’s taken a long, long time for Detroit ever recovered from the riots. I was last there in 2009, it was still rather shell shocked around the Fox Theater.

    I distinctly Summer’67’/‘68 “I
    Never Loved a Man” blasted through the neighborhood!
    James Brown had released “Im Black and I’m Proud”.
    From that moment on, JET magazine constantly had their pics on their Top 20 deemed Queen and King of Soul.
    But nothing matched “Since You’ve Been Gold”b/w “Ain’t No Way”, I played that consistently.
    Peddle forward, we were gleefully proud for Aretha’s #1 “I Knew You Were Waiting For Me” with the belated George Michael.
    Then she stole the “Divas Live” Show.
    I owned 90% of her albums on Columbia, Atlantic & Arista!
    This weekend “I’m gonna pay homage and listen to my favorites.
    The angels took her to meet with Luther, Marvin, Natalie, Teena, Michael..etc.! Heavens will be welcoming her and her Amazing Grace will astound!

    I have always loved Aretha Franklin ever since I was a young boy. My mother used to do TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) a weight loss program and she had a tape that had Respect and Chain of Fools. I am 24 years old now and still listen to her still. Even she is gone she is still The Queen of Soul and Nobody can sing like her ever!! Good Memories

    No one can be Aretha! The real Aretha when she sings she puts a spell on your sole. You can have many imitations play her butter can't touch her when it comes to her singing! Her life story is very interesting! For the record Jennifer H. Is not close to Aretha? You have to get someone that deep, deep down home Genius to pull it off to sing like her!

      Of course she loved the men more! She was too dark, almost black, and not to pretty. Where did you go to school? It appears you like screaming. And using HORRIBLE "English," You make Aretha hide her plain-Jane face!

    Don't forget The Isley Brothers whose "Shout" is a R & B Classic that has stood the test of time. As for Ted, he was in the same Boat that a lot of Men are in who have Famous Wives. He may have thought people looked at him as "Mr. Aretha Franklin" who was living off of his Wife's Gravy. The Husbands of Olivia Newton-John and Diana Ross were in that same boat.

    as I watch the 2nd half of this documentary..and I see her tribute to King at his funeral, Im reminded of how there are TONS of singers like her in black churches all over this country. But Aretha was literrally the first to be given the oppurtunity to sign contracts with companies that allowed her to sing all kinds of music. And she wasn't just good...she exceeded expectations and limitations that were laid on black women, trying to break thru in the record business.
    I mean, if you think about it, if all the black women vocalists that you know of or hear in a black church somewhere, were given the oppurtunities that Aretha, Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle and Dionne Wariwck (all of whom come from the black church) got...they would take over the record business on every front. Why???..well, because they're all at the top of the totem pole when it comes to the best singers that America has to offer.

    I have a problem with this word (secular), Aretha Franklin was not singing (secular songs). Aretha Franklin was singing Love Songs to someone she fell in love with, or someone she wanted to be with, there's no such thing as (secular songs), with Franklin, or any other gospel artists who want's to sing (Love Song) to the person she's in love with. Gospel music is also (Love songs) to our savior, they are not (secular songs), get over yourself quit this madness there's no such thing as secular or worldly songs they're just Songs, Dammit, Case Closed. PS. You people are so full of yourself, giving titles to things that you don't even understand, Quit The Madness..........
