I just bought 4 five button vests. How do I wear them - top and/or bottom buttons unbuttoned? I'm 65 years old but I like how I look in them and wonder if I'm actually too old to wear them. What do you think? Thanks for your help with both questions. Jim
JimA Hansen hi how are ya. Don’t think age has anything to do with looking sharp. But usually when it comes to waistcoats/vests you want only the bottom button undone. You want your under shirt to be fitted so it’s not blooming out your vest. To make things more casual you can always wear jeans, just make sure your belt and shoes compliment each other.

Also thanks for the tip to make sure my shirt is fitted under it. I have plans to mostly wear the vest in the fall with jeans. Which of course means I don't think I can wear them now. Damn. JimA Hansen no problem, I’ll be distinguished such as yourself one day and I’ll still rock the waistcoat. What I love about waistcoats ; they are a timeless fashion it looked good in the past, it looks good now, and it will look good in the future.
So many of these are wearing waistcoates that are too small for them! The only part of the shirt that should be visible are the sleeves and neck area, the bottom of the shirt/belt line should be covered by the waistcoat length.

Wear shirt stays to always look clean and the vest should always have last button unbottoned.
