Dude, BF3 and BF4 were really two chaotic and amazing games, no wonder the BF3 Realism Mod is too. IMO the destruction engine really gave them the difference

Yep no middle place where the two teams are decent, I remember our own guy planted a bomb and waited till one of our logi trucks was over it and teamkilled 9 guys arguing that he thought it was an ennemy truck (yeah when you have a mini map to see exactly where your ennemies are)

It has serious bones, I think once they mod the vehicles that the original game already has and the maps get bigger it will become more populated... And the server crashes and that stuff. I play PR:BF2 a lot, but I'm seeing this as a worthy successor.. Nano your videos are great, keep it up!

I loved playing long range sniper in battlefield, but now we have the Sniper Ghost Warrior series for that
At 1:58, this is literally nano trying so hard to kill someone despite his mental state probably stopping to exist because of the game.
Kinda makes you wonder what squad would be like if it had a AAA budget and invested more into destruction/ gun play
If anything it highlights that it is far easier to use an engine like UE4 and it still ends up same or better than all the effort placed into this back in 2011. Arguably you could code something that runs really well at any time, but, the fact is they had much less effort and people and still Squad is about the same or better than this dead mod will ever become.
The main thing is packaging and deliverability, Squad easily fills up 100 player servers at the moment, even if you could say there could be a lot more things and effects in the game. At this time they can't even optimize their vehicle packets, so they regularly teleport all over from an outsider perspective.
Arguably tho the visuals and optimizations in the 2011s from like Crysis3 and Battlefield3 are underrated and people moved on likely too fast from it. Or, rather, they could learn by not just using and fully understanding things, like using 90s netcode, and 2011s graphics optimizations, but as a result, Squad was easier to make and maintain, but if it were expertly crafted it could be much better in all ways.
An individual volume slider is pretty cool
Don't worry Nano it will get a lot better, since you remember the campaign, you've probably seen some cool stuff that is available for the mod. Just needs time to implement things. It is indeed a passion project and frostbite is just really fucked to mod, but the tools to do it keep being worked on and someday this will be amazing, Alpha is for the people who want to see the work and take part in testing things and a lot of people came in prepared to play a polished title for some reason.
I think im gonna check this mod out BF3 was my first battlefield game and also my favorite one so this looks very exciting

The biggest obstacles of this mod are:
1) the inability to always run. You run LONG distances and the key mapping mechanics are still 2010s era.
2) the VOIP keys are hard coded and can’t be mapped (yet).
3) you can’t lean - again 2010s technology showing itself
4) only 1-2 servers are ever populated
As a Squad/Arma player I was really looking forward to this but the game experience is not nearly as clean as the videos portray. Definitely try it out for yourself but what you see on RUclips vs reality is very different.

For the record you have inspired me to get Squad, I may be a noob still but it’s a good game and I only died once and got 2 kills in my first game!
It’s basically hardcore with the full squad using their mics, it’s happened before but rarely, more frequently in BF4 before it died the first time

BF2 with mods was so fucking good. PR, Operation Peacekeeper, Eve of Destruction, Forgotten Hope 2 and Allied Intent Xtended. I loved these mods.

All these nice details in this old game make me cry.
And i like the 5 Minute kill timer,blasting walls, reduce the volume for each player.

Nano is the coolest European guy ever.
The big buildings and the fact that routes change with destruction is huge imo, i think that now that BF3 has mods, it can totally become what PR did. A tighter community, punishing gameplay and dynamic routing could make the game alot more interesting than squad which has basically become 100 people running point to point and dying along snail trails.

I don't even play these games, but I love the vids.
Everyone talks about the destructible environments in 3 but have we all forgotten that Bad Co. 2 had the best destruction? Basically any building could be leveled with the exception of those large concrete warehouses, they just turned into hole ridden shooting galleries. I miss being mid way through a match and crawling through or sprinting between the rubble of buildings since the entire village got flattened by rockets and tanks.

I appreciate that they did this mod in BF3 over BF4. The destruction engine felt cleaner and more variable to me (outside of lacking levolutions high just kinda felt gimmicky to me after a while) and always seemed to have an edge in how clean the movement and gunplay mechanics worked. Making the game more gritty and team based on top of that is a great idea if they can iron out some desync and other bugs and balance the game away from rewarding lone wolf, long range engagements.
Need more people playin this dope ass game!
