Trailer park kid here, only child. We didn’t have much of a yard, which was fine since it was just me and my mom. However, the neighborhood of my time, nothing but retirees. So lots of people could watch me in a pinch, but hanging around with kids was a serious ‘not happening.’ I find it fascinating how many of us grow up and our quirks are similar. Keep creating TEG/THG.
Love listening to your narratives. You know you have this way of connecting when I think a lot less about my own history because I am imagining myself in the times and places you are describing. Today’s world of storybooks is here! 🥰🚀🎹🌈
Enjoying this. I hope this is a super long series where you don’t feel rushed to get to present day. This may be a terrific life history you leave behind.
Shannon, we are about the same age. I recall in Grade 1 in Ontario Public School singing God Save the Queen as our national anthem and reciting the Lord's Prayer every morning. I also remember spankings. The strap was given if you visited the Principal's office three times. And 3 classmates failed in Grade 1 (all were December babies).
As an only child myself, I totally relate to the solitary life and having only one friend really stuck with. Literately everyone I have ever been friends with or dated have had siblings and it’s always strange for them to imagine a life without any siblings. It’s a double edged sword, as you would know.
Definitely I am thinking back to several of my French teachers…each was pretty distinctive and one of the few things in school I showed an aptitude for.
Wow, another no joke moment! The second vehicle that my dad ever owned (I wasn't born yet, but I've heard this story form both of my parents a few times) was a Renault Le Car. In the 60's, they were actually smaller and lighter than the ones that came in the70's and 80's. Anyway....making a long story short....he had not even made the second payment on the Le Car when he was driving home one day on a perfectly dry day.....he swerved to avoid a squirrel that had run into the road, the tires caught the gravel on the shoulder and rolled the car 2 and a half times. It took dad a few minutes to climb out since it stopped on the roof after the flipping....and the wheels were still spinning on the car when he got out...lol. Thankfully, both dad and squirrel were fine. The car? Not so much...lol.
I am exactly like you One for K (and accompanying crush who never did find out) Switched schools for 1-7 with 2 accompanying crushes (1-5 5-8 both of whom eventually did find out, the second one was the only one during and she informed me she didn't feel the same) Did 8-10 at Jr High and 11-12 at Sr. High I also had little luck with romance. My wife is Girlfriend 5, (2 weeks, 4 Weeks, 6 Weeks, 8 Weeks, 13 Years Beginning in 2008 at 24) Never did finally ask someone out until 2004 in University and didn't truely have a date until 2007 Again Great to hear what makes you you.
Someone cut down the Maple my dad planted for me the year I was born at the house we had IIRC and it pisses me off. but its their house and their maple tree to do with what they want.
i can entirely relate to the only child and sports dynamic. I always had to go out of my way to find people to play with or practice etc, whereas all my friends with older or younger siblings always had someone around to do so with. Idt it’s the most important factor but i do think having siblings around stimulates that type of play more. Kinda hard to play catch by yourself. thankfully i had some neighborhood friends and we would play stick ball and the like from time to time. Love trailer park boys myself also!
i only remember one teachers name.mrs ryan grade 9 english got me to read my favorite book: to kill a mockingbird so when do we get to the music and movies part 3?
i just had a recollection of grade 3.watching. i remember giving all the girls in my class valentines cards, and comparing with my friends how many we got back. i guess you were picked on by chads.and felt insecure because of your family. that would explain your hesitation to have male friends.you assume its a trick. i always had both.it went downhill in high school.blew out my knee put on alot of weight that took me 30 years to take off. neat, always liked the trailer park boys.
I hope somehow that you can reconnect with these people from your past. These are great stories, and thank you for doing these.
You’re a great storyteller. Been enjoying these so far!

We need the netflix adaptation
That Danielle wedding bit was hilarious lol.
A French teacher driving a Le Car because why not.

Must be mandatory for french teachers to be completely eccentric, the french teacher transferring out is par for the course as well!
I think I remember seeing Wayne Coffey play back in the day...
I too had a wedding cermony with a girl when i was about 7 years old(2001). She initiated it. It was at the end of a dock on a lake.
