    What if you're non-EU citizen (e.g. USA)?

      If you are non-EU citizen, then the standard border control procedure is applicable. In this case, our desktop reader, the Osmond can be a perfect choice, since it provides passport reading & authentication as well. More details:

    it is still mandatory to use passport instead of id cards for eu citizens?

      If you are an EU citizen and come back from a non-EU country, you need to have a valid passport. The validity can be checked with our ID document reader models beside the fast and accurate data reading.

      If you travel to a non-EU country, most of the cases you need to have a valid passport. But you are right, when you come back, and if you have your identity card as well with you, you can use it at crossing the EU border.
