We want our culture and way of life to be preserved.
The Danny guy(guard) is really helpful and represents the good of Irish people. That Lally guard in Dublin airport is an ignoramus and straight up rude. It costs nothing to be polite.
Of course it does! At the end of a long hard day when people have been miserable to you it can cost more kindness and energy than you've got to be polite. "It costs nothing to be polite"? A common and nonsensical saying.
The big face up on him
Officer Lally made a complete fool of himself on camera, you don't have to be that bright to be a guard in Ireland.
@@dionlindsay2You look like the type of prick to say that I treat all people differently based on how they treat me it's not hard to not be rude to people ye psyco😂
@@dionlindsay2 people entering the country are usually pretty nice, knowing full well they can be turned away. Lally is just an absolute twat. He's better off on the dole.
Imagine being so rude to people but knowing it’s all being filmed for a documentary. He’s probably toned it down a bit for the cameras! Poor travellers. Welcome to Ireland.
Absolute cunt, its clear he hates the job but he doesn't have to be an arsehole about it.

@@boathousejoed1126 wasn't a requirement to be a dick either 😅
It is quite literally a requirement of the job, see if people will cave or display a hostile nature. Every good customs officer the world over acts accordingly @@Hells64
It’s their job to question these things and they ask these things a certain way to catch people out lying . You should learn what it is
For the record. These men and women on these border patrol shows are much much nicer and inviting than the ones here in the USA.
That bold agent is very rude! who the hell prints the e-ticket nowadays?
Exactly what I just said. He’s a dick
Exactly. That’s the point of e-tickets.

Yes, He hates his job, hates his life, stuck in a box all day. Male menopause. Nasty bitter piece of work. These guys are a dime a dozen.
it's always useful to print them or at least have some way to retrieve the information like a QR code
I've only been to Ireland before the last of the family emigrated. Before that visit, I only ever experienced visiting the US. The border agent was stressfully friendly. It was 9AM, but our bodies felt like it was 3 in the morning. Welcome! welcome! welcome! We then took a train to Cork, and we managed to sleep on the rest of the trip. I miss that place. I hope to visit again.
That Garda Lally from the GNIB is a really bad example for the border check points in Ireland. They are usually much friendlier than that.
He's an ignorant man, a very unprofessional officer.
Exactly what I just said. He’s trying so hard to be a hard man and a bit rude.
Maybe he's tired of illegals lying to his face every day.
I agree but so many ignoranus border security police their lack of common politeness like little tin gods. I am lrish born & bred living overseas home in Edinburgh. May 2022 flew Edinburgh to Dublin not a border patrol officer in sight😮

There was absolutely no need to be so rude to the people that didn't speak PERFECT FLUENT English. E-Tickets are so common these days, if you don't like it then go find another job or have some training.
People need to understand that going to another country is a favor not a right. U cant go in with an entitled halo..

There's another reason why they were having a hard time. Taiwanese people learn American English. They divide their time between the Taiwan and Canada, so they would be most familiar with North American accents. Irish brogues can be a challenge to understand if you're not used to them. Even I struggle to keep up with some Irish people and I'm used to conversing with Scots!

Unless you're familiar with it, the Irish accent can also be challenging to understand. The Taiwanese travellers would not likely have been used to his accent as they would have been used to hearing North American accents, having learnt American English at school in Taiwan and hearing Canadian English whilst in Canada.

@minute 11. Rudeness
Not every custom officer I encountered is rude, but I'm just so glad that I have an EU passport that I don't need to go through this type of check by officers like Mr Lally in 29 EEA countries other than my own...
@11.15 - Although his Portuguese is impressive, he cannot legally ask a European citizen why they are in Europe. Understand that they are coming from Brazil with Portuguese citizenship etc., but they are just EU citizens in the EU, period. I am sometimes asked by ill-trained EU border guards why I am there. I just tell them "I am a European in Europe". Border guards are allowed to ask where someone is coming from or how long they were away or where their home is etc. but aren't allowed to ask "Why are you here?"
Agree.
You can legally ask whatever you want, if you choose to answer is up to you.
Ireland is not part of the schengen area, border control can ask you whatever they want. You seem a little butthurt that border control question you but its their job to weed out the thousands of chancers arriving at dublin airport every day. There are so many people arriving without any kind of documents and claiming asylum, its time to start passport checks on the aircraft before people get off! No passport, you stay on the aircraft and go back to where you came from.
Oh, they bloody well can ask that! The freedom of movement in the European Economic Area is not absolute and people can be excluded. People are expected to be able to support themselves and not be a burden on the social system of other member states. You'll also find that "how" member states implement European directives is up to them. So long as they do not substantially violate treaty rights and obligations, they are given a lot of discretion.
Both of them have Brazilian accent. I think one of them doesn't hold Portuguese citizenship otherwise they would just have used the EU citizen line. Also the officer seemed to only have addressed his questions to the gentleman, although the first question (what do you do) was answered by both, but I think it's because they supposed the question was for them both. So I guess the gentleman is not Portuguese like his wife.
No name for the hotel

@@DDringWell with the lightening up of a lot of the controls by the old religious crowd in Ireland, perhaps the statement was more correct than you might think! 😉
Aye, Dublin where's they're only suspicious of you if you're not smuggling, some are saying!😅🎉😂
That's the first time I have ever seen the Gardai pull a taxi man over, they usually leave them alone, taxis think they own the roads here, often cutting you off or swerving right in front of you when it was not clear/safe for them to do so and then when they take the nose off your car they sue you until your bankrupt. But of course he was only pulled over because of the cameras.
You haven't a clue 😂😂😂 many taxis are pulled over daily
I like how the onscreen text makes so many mistakes with the Irish accent. Nice to know not only us brits can't understand them , the bloody machines can't either.

I’d take the Christian families you guys get on the border vs the exclusively single men from muslim countries we get in Europe any day
@@desdicadoric Fewer and fewer are actually Christian families. A lot of people travel from Africa, the Middle East, Pakistan, China, etc. to Mexico due to its lax border checks and then they cross illegally from Mexico to the USA.
Yes and no. Ireland has a lot of problems now due to lax immigration policies and population growth beyond the ability of housing stocks and infrastructure to support. You seem the same problems in Canada and Australia.
The writers of this program need to learn geography. Mexico is in North America, not South.
Actually Mexico is in Central America
Nope, Mexico is the southern most country in North America. Central America starts at Guatemala.
@brendanmee2637 parts of Mexico are more north than the United States.
I'd argue anything below Canada is central America.
@brendanmee2637 Not according to tectonic plates, Mexico is in North American tectonic plate, and Central America has it's own plate which is Central American tectonic plate. At 2:40. Customs Officers don't want to know if you have enough money for your stay in Ireland. This matter does not concern them. The Producers of this video should learn the difference between Customs Officers, Gardaí, and Immigration Officials. It baffles me that the Revenue Commissioners and the Garda Authorities have not been consulted on the format of these programmes.

HAHAH this why 20% of dublin population are illegal immigrants
pointless when Ireland has an open border with a non EU country
@@georgebarnes8163 The Euroreich is irrelevant in this context. Dublin Airport and Dublin Port have the security policies they do because they have a pre-clearance agreement with the United States. US passport control and customs checks are done upon departure. When a flight from Dublin arrives at, say, San Francisco, Los Angeles or Chicago, they're treated as domestic arrivals. That is why Canada has the same basic entry requirements as the US.

Bit of misinformation here. An Emergency Travel Document doesn't allow you to travel to your final destination. It allows you to fly back to your home country without a passport.
Nope. They can be used to travel to one's country of residence, not necessarily the country of citizenship. He was a resident of Ireland, so the emergency document could be used. You are aware that there actually are immigrants who hold visas in their country of residence, correct?

Officer Laila needs to take a course on how to better treat people that are coming into Ireland instead of losing his patience. He needed to call for someone who speaks the visitors language. A tourist doesn’t necessarily know the local language to visit the country. Shame on officer Laila.
400 euro is enough for 5 days

Depends on whereabouts in the Eurozone you're going to, and whether everything can be done on a shoestring budget. Ireland can be done on €400, but somewhere more expensive like Paris can be a bit of a push, but at least public transport is still cheap. However, the money question is more likely to be asked of a citizen of a country where overstaying on meagre means is a frequent problem (especially if they're from developing countries), since border officers have to profile a visitor to determine eligibility, and those whose home countries have a history of overstayers are more likely to be profiled on money than those who are from richer countries.
Ireland is a lot more expensive than Paris, Dublin is probably the most expensive place to live in the EU.@@AurumUsagi
