New! Hornby Locomotion No.1 era11. Poor Start ended on high. Dcc fitting cured this terrible runner.

This has certainly convinced me of the superiority of DCC.
I also like the idea of an Era 1 layout in the dawn of railways!

I've never understood the thought that if it's rubbish under analogue, then dcc will be worse.... Its 99.9% the other way round.. It's always better under DCC. Mind you, you need a dcc decoder with quality motor control, so Zimo, Lenz, and even Hornby all make locos perform better than analogue. It's a cracking model, really enjoyed running mine, pleased to see you found plenty of running improves it no end.. 👍

@@markweightman3805 think it goes back to if the model has bad pick ups and track issues. These days with stay alives, most models run really well.

@D402DDS Yes stay alives help, but my reasoning was before you even add in a stay alive... I do have 0-4-0s (E.g. Pecketts) with them so they can crawl over points without stopping. But everything else manages without. Inc Locomotion, so it's the quality, smoothness, & control at a slow speed or crawl that for me makes dcc the winner. Hope that makes sense..

Locomotion and rocket look great together on track. Great video and glad it’s working well by the end. 👍

Mine was terrible and even after running in for two hours still surges. I might try a decoder before I return it.

Try cleaning the wheels. Mine had extremely dirty wheels, right out of the box. I cleaned them and the problem went away.

Cleaned the wheels, and a bit of contact cleaner on the spring pickups on the axles... Bit too much oil there on my example... Runs beautifully.. Under DCC, analogue always makes locos run worse.. IMHO..

The instructions and website stated it does tank the hm7000. Instructions show the hm7000, you can see the buetooth antenna. I asked them. They have since changed that.

This is taken from hornbys product info on the model ......
"This model comes fitted with a Next 18 pin socket but due to the locomotives size limitations sadly it cannot take a HM7000 Next 18 pin decoder."

The mechanism for that is fascinating. I wonder if there is some higher than normal resistance that the higher voltage of DCC is getting through better? or if its just stronger & cleaner drive power for the motor.

I also bought one, still have to pick it up with relatives of mine.
Is that an idea of me, or is it just the light it's filmed in, but the wood grain doesn't seem to be as convincing as Lion or Tiger.
But it's still a magnificent loco.
    Nice video review👍

Is that noise your controller or the motor? Doesn’t sound good

Used a cheap hornby controller which are known for motor noise. It's the only dc controller I have.

Does the instruction sheet with that Dapol decoder still refer to "860015 Next 18 6 Function decoders (NEM 662)" ? 860015 is a Lais Next 18 decoder which is around £10 cheaper.

Look at the size of that bunker, how have Hornby not been able to get a HM7000 decoder in there?
What's even the point of putting a speaker in there if their own products aren't compatible with it.
