Just to add . I agree these are truly works of art . There will be lots of competition for coach of the year , but I think these would be deserved winners . Expensive , but look at the innovation in the articulation, the sealed connections attached by magnets , the chrome effect and the very effective lighting . These are among my favourite coaching stock too .

Great review, these coaches are just stunning, Hornby has shown that as a company it is still able to produce top notch products.... reminds me of their superb Pullmans with individual table lamps, especially the 12 wheelers. ...Drew

      Hi
Yes the pullman coaches were also stunning but these Coronation coaches have surpassed the pullmans fantastic set

Excellent review and addition here Peter, I bought all my packs from Gaugemaster and have had my rake of the articulated stock for a week now and absolutely love them, I do have the observation car on order and hope I do get it because I only placed my order for one a couple of weeks ago after checking the stock level that the retailer I have ordered it from had left, when it comes to running I have used mine with my Bachmann A4 Dominion of Canada, an excellent choice choosing the Rebuilt W1 hauling yours, I actually ran mine with my rebuilt W1 and it did look good, mine ran like the coaches were not even there, as I say I love the coaches from hornby but if I was to put one criticism to them it’s the foil lettering p, now don’t get me wrong it does look good, it just worries me with hornby stating in the instructions to be careful when handling them, I don’t have a proper layout setup so I’m handling the coaches a lot putting them on the track, taking them off and taking them out and putting them back in their boxes, how long is the foil lettering going to last for someone like me who has to do this but I will admit I am being very careful when handling them, overall excellent review and running session he Peter, keep up the great work.
One last thing regarding your use of the W1 that’s actually quite realistic as while I’m not sure if you have seen or heard but the Rebuilt W1 was used once on the Coronation back in the 1930s, it took over from an A4 that was declared failed at Grantham if I recall, the W1 then hauled the train until it then also was declared a failure and had to be replaced by another loco but can’t remember what replaced it.

Cheers David mate, yes I had heard the W1 when rebuilt did haul this train at some point. Had no idea it was foil used for the lettering, Interesting. I thought it was some sort of printing

@ Hi Peter, yes it’s foil lining and lettering according to the instructions that are provided, it states on them to minimise handling of the coaches in the areas where the lettering and lining are to preserve the decoration, as I say it’s very nice but it does worry me a bit as I don’t have a any sort of setup so I have no choice but to take them off my track then place them back into their boxes when not using them, how long is the lettering and lining going to last for someone like me, up to now mine have been ok, yes I have had them for a week but I have been mainly handling them by the skirts.

I brought the complete set including the observations coach. I received the first two packs last week from Cheltenham Models. Waiting for the other two packs and the observation coach to arrive. I'm really impressed with them

Excellent video review on an excellent coach. I agree with your comment that this could be the model of the year.

these do look beautiful, sadly out of my price range when launched and equally sadly now basically out of stock so have missed them. lovely for those who got them though they are seriously nicely done.
not cheap but they don't look like "overpriced" (by too much), I do hope they come back at some point as well
very good review too, the curve tests with the close couple ends is especially useful

Hornby had the four sets available as at 27/11/2024 but considerably more than first announced. You may have to shop around for the observation coach though as this was not available from them

    Great video mate,
I agree with your sentiment that these ARE models of the year.
The only thing that lets these down is actually the A4 to pull them I have 4490 empire of India and she struggles. I think I’m going to invest in their Dublo 4489 Dominion of Canada. See if the extra weight helps so I can add more to 4490 and 4491 Commonwealth of Australia when I collect that one. How did the W1 fair?
I’ve made two videos regarding these with a third due next week on the Observation car.
In my revisited video I show body removal as well as a mod that can be made to allow you to run two smaller 4 car takes of these plus either a beaver tail on each rake or one with observation car and the other with a full brake.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Ross

Cheers mate, the W1 ran fine with these, but did later on try Silver Link and she struggled. If I could find a Hornby Dublo 4489 and for a good price that will probably be the way to go
Will look out for your videos 👍🏻

      @
      Thank you.
In regards to the Dublo A4 yes they’re quite pricey but I think in retrospect Hornby now needs to go over to Diecast body’s for their A4’s as they have done with the running plates on the A3’s.
Fantastic models but just no longer have the grunt to move the stock.
I will attempt adding weight to my A4 first and will update you in regards to the results.

@rossnation8092 thanks for that, will look out for that and will be interested to see the results on adding extra weight to an A4
