What kind of trees are you using on the right side of the lawn (right side facing the play set from the house)? The line of privacy trees. Gorgeous
Love the video wht kind of sand u used I have puddles in my back yard
How deep do you make the holes and what diameter?..I bought a new house and theres like a 20 x 20 ft section you can almost sink in
I have seen this method for leveling lawns but they used combo top soil and sand.
That is correct.👍🏽 its never good to just use sand or dirt only. Also you dont need to use that power brush. Just add water and it levels way better, rather than just spreading sand out of the lower areas. Areating was good though. 👍🏽
This will work for a while after sand keeps washing out.
I am new to this whole backyard thing. I have a 3×3 area, smaller areas and then a larger area. Would you use this same technique for said areas OR would you do something different? Do you do private apts via phone? Like a video call where I show you my yard and you provide ideas?? Charging a a fee for the appointment I guess?
You can buy a power broom attachment for your weed eater too👍
Are you going to tell us the story of the artwork on the house? 😃 thanks for the video
Mix some soil in that sand and you could over seed after.
Thanks for making this video! Most of my lawn is dead from retaining too much moisture. I was going to double-aerate, lime, rake in sand, seed, fertilize. Just wondering if that sounds good? Should I fertilize before putting the sand down? Also concerned seed won't grow in the sand layer. Thanks!
Hey my sod was laid in august and I currently have this problem will this work? Is it because the sod is fairly new still it’s only been a little over a month to date September 25th.. I have irrigation near by and I hate to run it.
I have a question about the Echo rub-80.
When you got it you mentioned it came with a special impeller to use with sand.
Did you have to edit out the part of your video where you installed it before you tried to spread the damp sand?
Or?
Please show it someday, if you could.
Yes I'm gonna do a full video. When I was editing I realized that whole process made the video super long and the wet sand didn't even work.
Can I borrow your Swardman for a week? It would save me a lot of time! Thanks for sharing a few different ways to help with these problem areas.
Yeah I wouldn't have attempted it without it! Others do but I get winded fast with a broom 😀
Will this help with clay soil lawns?
So after I aerate and spread the sand can I start to plant seed?? Should I put top soil over the aerated sand first then seed? Please advise!! Thank you!!
Sand holds absolutely no nutritional value what's so ever, however mixing it with organic matter and spreading it all over the aerated areas. It would be a good time to seed it. Make sure to rake the seeds into the soil.
have a lawn that like to stay wet to moist.yard is pretty much kentucky 31.would adding some sand across it help.? was thinking about overseeding in spring after the sand should I add some compost or similar.? thanks
Yes sand will help with drainage. Compost won't help with drainage but it will help with nutrients. Some people will do a 50/50 mix.
Do you think that I could do this and add sand to my lawn?
Connor Ward we all know you hire your lawn work out and just pretend to do it all yourself on camera
Lmfao
Not everyone has a huge lawn.
Connor Ward The beach called. It wants its sand back.
No yours will turn to cement 🤣
can we have an update a year later and see how this area is doing? I have a similar project coming up. Thanks brother!
Great idea!
Grass Daddy In a nutshell, did it work?
@@GrassDaddy do you have that update? 😉lol
@@angiericouard792 I sold the house so no video update but the summary is it worked. That area would always get wet easier but it definitely drained better and wasn't soggy after.
@@GrassDaddy appreciate, you are busy guy! The sand video very informative, Lord knows little comical, looks exhausting...thought at end, you asked... "How to Rid yard of Kid toys!"🤣and reading
The follow up,how does yard look Now...looks like you wrote you Sold your place, moved😂at least newer,benefits...saturated back yard no fun...is why watching video..
Haven't lol🤣 ,too funny! Wishing you the Best,Kids,New place
so what's the result?
can i do this in the winter?
No
will the sand prevent new grass from growing in?
nope, it'll settle into the soil.
Please keep the camera still. It’s difficult to watch when you’re waving it about but very informative.
HEAVY MULCH WILL FIX THAT PROBLEM AND BUILD SOIL FOR FUTURE GARDEN PROJECTS.
I had a land slide issue but i fixed it with compost and mulch
Interesting I have not tried that
@@GrassDaddy Try it. The thicker the mulch and compost the first year, the better. You will see it improve in as little as 3 months Do a test after 3 months by putting a 12 inch pipe on the ground and pouring water in it to the top. If your water disappears in less than a minute you know you fixed it!
@@GrassDaddy Or add wood chips They hold water well. Watch the BTE film. The forest gets 14 feet of water but it is never flooded or soggy. I hope you try. Or you can put 2 inches compost and 10 ,inches arborist wood chips .
Mulch right over the grass? My entire backyard is soggy for days after rain. I rarely let my dog out there as the clean up on her paws is nearly impossible. Need an easy DIY fix.
Sorry if I missed it, but what kind of sand do I buy?
Play sand or any sand
He is using play sand which is what he could get for clean sand. Any sand could be cement sand I suppose, but it's not clean.. If you research this wet soil
problem, you will find out that most professional suggestions are to add compost material... organic, or dehydrated manure. I have done the compost, but it seems to me that it makes the soul richer....loamy. i have thouhht of sand too. What happens with sand is that eventually it rises to the surface. I would be interested to know if this happens to him.
Will this do well if I’m overseeding with fescue? Got areas that stay wet
Yeah, I would do this first and then overseed and topdress with peat moss
My back yard lawn has limited sunlight and get stay soggy or muddy for 2 to 3 days. What should I do?
Get saw dust or arborist wood chips on that spot
Leaf blower might spread the sand
It work?
What kind of grass is yours?
Ugh someone will need a new reel mower blade. 🤑
J D he explained how he is using a brush attachment on the mower, no blades
@@mikek7523 yes, but once you start cutting the grass with the Swardman it will be picking up some of the sand.
Definitely looking for help in this area. My front lawn holds so much water, nothing grows just a bunch of moss. I would love to see grass there. I always thought sand would kill everything? I was going to rent a tiller and try mixing in some stone? Needs some advise if you can, thanks.
Sand won't kill it, you just can't smother it. If it's really bad you might want to look into a french drain to divert the water away
Can you do this in the Spring?
Yup
RIP bedknife
That swardman is sweet!!! Bad ass piece of gear.
I didn't realize people were packing that kind of steel these days. "Almost 4min in"
Move to Florida get all the sand lawn you want
haha
Where possible ask for Mason sand. That is a type of sand, not a brand.
Not sure if you mentioned it, but adding sand to primarily clay based soils can turn it very hard like concrete. A compost or a topsoil would be a better topcoating option with clay.
Jesse McLaughlin As in red clay, in the South, Mississippi specifically? That was my plan for tomorrow! Have lots of standing puddles, terrible drainage & crawfish everywhere! Thought sand would be the easiest & cheapest solution. Perhaps I should research a little more. Thank you for commenting!!
@@sipanon9711 That's actually not true, adding sand to clay soil doesn't turn it into concrete or anything like concrete.
It’s a myth
If you have clay you want to add a peat/compost/sand mix. Worked for a landscaping company in a neighbourhood with large brick companies in the surrounding area.
Is there a reason why you used play sand instead of topsoil in the bag?
Eric Von Wedel, I believe he was trying to get the area that’s in the shade to drain better and not stay wet for so long. Therefore; he used sand to topdress(which doesn’t hold moisture well) vs using a topsoil from a bag, which would keep too much moisture in the top layer, which would be defeating his original purpose.
I'm 40 and cant stand mowing. lol
If you fix the rotten step.. kids wouldnt jump.. save the compaction perfect angle is about 3:45 in.. only know cause im a father myself and see my son do stuff like that all the time
They jump cuz they are kids lol
@@GrassDaddy you bet and who blames them.. we kid as kids or we would be working in our yards..i never saw my parents or grandparents to in work in their lawns.. only gardens and live stock.. looking at whats going on now.. decades of minimal work were thrown in landfills and burnt.. trying to show my son.. a little work goes a long way and someday will be an abundance
I really do you like you man, but why are you putting sand in there, when it looks like it could you some nice potting soil or some sort of other organic matter to feed the soil. I know you are trying to dry it out, but that's not going to give you nice grass there.. If that works, that's awesome. Again, since you are trying this, it's trial and error to see if it works, and that's why I do like your vids. You are a go getter and try things for the rest of us. I really think you need to put in some organic matter there, cause quite frankly there's no grass in spots.. Peace out!
Sorry, what I should have said, is to at least put in 50/50 mix here. Half organic matter, half sand.
Soil tests show the soil is high in organic matter. Poor drainage causes thinning as well. If the test showed it was lacking then I'd agree.
Brian Schmitz
Some golf companies use 98% sand and 2% organic material on their courses and, obviously, their lawns look good.
Start a 🔥 and make sure the kids see you throw the first toy 🧸 in the fire 🔥. Tell the every 5 mins. Another toy burns to death 💀 unless they are all put up! 😈
I tell them once and mow them
I was gonna say put a trash can out before you do yard work, and say pick them up or they go to the curb.
Mowing over that sand with a reel mower :( RIP Bed Knife
Take out the whistling - annoying
Sell the kids to the Chinese I hear they give you $10000 a kid I’ll look into it for you maybe we can do a package deal
