    I just want to say that this is my first time tuning in to your podcasts, and it was extremely profound! I’ve always appreciated your work and atmospheres as well, but to see you and Slug discuss such heavy and deeper topics definitely makes you even more relatable to me as human beings. Thank you for this insight into your souls. This has forever changed my world- and for that I am beyond grateful.

    Thank you for this Brother Ali. Slug was my hero in high school, but in a weird way, because I also bought CDs from him at 5th Element and interacted with him in person. I realized that my teenage hero worship of him would likely be weird to him. Somehow, I've always understood that being famous is difficult, because I always understood that I somehow expected Slug to be more than just a normal human. This all went back to even before Lucy Ford dropped, I bought it directly from him. I've followed more or less at different times over the 24 years since first hearing Scapegoat on Radio K, could talk for a bit about all that. I have to say though, this is beautiful, this conversation here. Just hearing it gives me affirmation of sorts. Not sure how to explain it, something about his introspection, always knowing he was on the right path. God bless.

      I really appreciate you sharing this. The intention behind this podcast is to talk to people that I know and love on a heart level about their journey. My life has taken me to places and circles that don’t often interact with one another. But I see so much beauty and meaning and pain and challenge in all of these people. So even if you don’t recognize all of the names on the podcast, it may be worthwhile to give them a lesson. Much appreciated!

      Happy Eid. I actually introduced your music to a young east African woman earlier today, driving her home after celebrating Eid, driving for Lyft. Minnesota's Muslim community is wonderful, so many great people, and you are a great bridge or ambassador between them and the larger community of Minneapolis. I love you for many songs, Good Lord, Freedom Ain't Free, Uncle Sam Goddamn, those 3 probably rank among my favorite hiphop songs ever, judged by how many times I've listened to them. Never Learn? I grew up partially south Minneapolis and partly at a Hindu temple in New Mexico, so seeing you do that video in Abiquiu blew my mind, to say nothing of the song itself. "How you gon hate me for being what God made me?" I love that lyrics so very much. Your music and your path is also beautiful and inspirational. Honestly, I've listened to you more than Slug now for years. Yeah, I'll definitely check out your conversation with Cornel West soon, would have already watched it had I realized it was out there. God bless.

    This is a side of hip hop that people nowadays don't know exists. It's humbling and inspiring to listen to two of my favorite artists discuss their relationship to each other and the world around them in such a raw manner.
    Been bumping both of these men, from scribble jam and before all the way to Goin Through It and Brother Minutester for Brother Ali. And before that with Slug and Ant. You two seem to have grown through each other and your experiences together and apart. Excellent to hear and listen to. Thank you for sharing.

    I know im a bit behind the 8 ball on this, but i just seen this podcast. I first heard an atmosphere song when i was in 6th grade, i think it was guns and ciggarettes. And ever since then the whole Ryhmesayers crew and related artists became a permenant fixture in my life. When i began getting in trouble in school, my mother knew i liked your music so much that she made a deal that if i kept out of trouble and past my classes that she would buy me a Rhymesayers CD every two weeks. so before long i had shadows on the sun, the truth is here, us , and the whole atmosphere disocgraphy, this all cumlinated in 2011 when i finally got to see you all in concert at Soundset. it was one of the most impactful expirences of my life. Im from a small town in sourthen minnesota, and your music has ment so much to me over the years, I always gravitate back to it. you guys are just the greatest and i feel incredibly blessed to have grown up during your prime time. your music has changed lives. thank you!

    I appreciate the encouragement and the criticism. The criticism is the harder pill to swallow, may take some time sometimes but it's necessary. Just reaping what we sow. It's all appreciated.
    Be direct. The defensiveness comes and goes. Sometimes it's justified. Rumors aren't always true. So the initial reaction may not be all that grateful but with time it gets easier to deal with.

    I can’t begin to describe how awesome this is !!! I’ve come to know Brother Ali listening to Atmosphere. I didn’t know Hip Hop music excited until 2010-12. On RUclips somehow I stumbled into Atmosphere and even though I didn’t speak or understand English well I could hear and feel everything the music was about ; I was blown away by the openness and my first encounter was “when life gives you lemons, paint that shit gold” .. I couldn’t skip a song. I loved the beats, loved the lyrics, the content - the album is on my TOP 10 best albums of all times. Anyways, I’m loosing track, I say all that to say thank you Brother Ali. Thank you for the podcast, the stories .. so much joy. So much nostalgia. Peace!!

    Thank you for this wonderful podcast. You are healers. Just as both of you have released songs that have had a profound effect on my life(Forest Whittaker, Dreamer), there are quotes from just this episode alone that I would do well to carry with me as I progress further into this time of personal healing and growth. For this, thank you.
    One of the questions an audience member asked left me very annoyed at first. I, for one, know I've made mistakes and said things in the past that have seriously hurt people. It has brought me great pain reflecting on this- but there is no way but to move forward and make better choices. Through this we better ourselves and learn that our mistakes do NOT define us.
    So yes, I find myself annoyed when people bring up the past mistakes of others, especially when it's evident that significant growth has been made.
    But larger than that- I think the gracefulness of how you both admitted your mistakes, listened to and communicated how you were feeling to the other side, and demonstrated that you wish to actively mend any harm that may have been done...
    ...that's some of the hardest sh*t I've seen any rapper do EVER.
    The person in question absolutely has the right to feel the way that they do and I see this now. You may not agree with this person but you lend them an ear and your time. It would bring me great joy to see others approach interactions with others with the same maturity that you two exemplify. So again, thanks.
    p.s. I'm visiting my father this week and it just so happens that he lives 10 minutes away from the very place Oudimentary is based. So I know where I'll be paying a visit (:

Just know that I appreciate you guys more then I can say, if I was Santa clause, love life, summer song, bitter, flicker, fortunate, aurthers song, these aren't just songs to me. Anyway I can't explain just know that you've given me more then I can give back and I'll forever consider you both friends. Love life, peace out

    The apology in the middle just got me. I mean I dont ever wanna hurt people, but I am who I am at the time I am that person. No one should really have to be apologizing so much for who they were at one time, and who they are now. Most of us learn. I also understand Slug you are in a very different position than me. Like you touch people, so that takes a different kind of responsibility. It just all seems to lose the major and important factor of being young and learning thru the act of doing. We keep going this way and people wont be allowed to make mistakes. Or those mistakes will be held against them for all time instead of being learned form and moved past. I also have alot of opinions, so no "do this" type of shit here. I just feel we are becoming so sensitive we just swung the pendulum the entire other way instead of seek a balance of the two. We are all learning and this is what we truly NEED to learn, the balance. But you already wrote that song and know what I speak of. Thank you both for this podcast! Two of the most influential people in my entire life in one place. Bless and ONE LOVE!!! Thank you for all you do!

    • @BrotherAli_Travelers
      @BrotherAli_Travelers  2 года назад

      Apologizing, making amends and repairing harm are essential parts of the growth and healing process. When we hurt other people it’s not enough to just grow and move on. There’s a debt that needs to be paid. That’s not over sensitive, it’s just sensitive.
      Thanks for the kind words and I’m glad you’re rockin with us.

    • @emotionalcontentmediaunltd2267
      @emotionalcontentmediaunltd2267 2 года назад

      @@BrotherAli_Travelers Agreed, I also think we are saying the same things with different words. I own up to the "debt" as you put it, your words and words I would not choose, by changing how I act now. The ACTION is far more important than the words ever could be. Words can acknowledge a thing, but they cannot change it. The change is in us. That we no longer do those things. And by no means am I saying, you or I do not need to apologize thru words, because we do. We just put so much on it, I feel we forget whats really important, which is what we DO. We often find out in the back end our words were never matching our actions to begin with ;)

    Quick question about the Oud oil! Which one were you wearing when they said you smell like heaven? And which do you typically burn? Cambodi? Pekanbaru? Didn’t know there was such a selection on the site! Besides that, a fantastic discussion between 2 artists I’ve greatly admired for 20 years 🤙🏼

    • @BrotherAli_Travelers
