You could do the deep imaskarimas, but i don't think it has the same ring too it as Gripplimas. 🤔
Their lifespan seems to vary wildly by source. Most list them at about 180-220, but Dragon Magazine 262 lists their maximum age as "600 + 2d100", suggesting that they could reach 800 years old. Indeed, it lists 300 years as only middle aged. IDK whether James Wyatt (the author of this article: "Half-pint Heroes") actively wanted to retcon the lore or if he simply didn't consult the previously existing literature. 🤷♀️

Holy shit this video brought back so many memories... i was in a boarding school in my teens and we started playing dnd with one of the caretakers there. We played 3.5 and my first character was a grippli druid. He had a pet crocodile he'd ride on and travel through the swamps. The party kept scraping the poisonous mucus of my back and the rouge filled it in bottles and sold it haha good times...

I played a Ranger Grippli with an evil attitude for my 2nd ever character that my fellow players loved so much that he became my bbeg in my first real campaign I ran. XD

His name was Froakal and he was attempting to ascend to godhood under the domain of murder, he was shut down by a well played LV15 bard combing smart spells and a +3 enchanted net. XD

Watching these has got me writing up creatures again. Been working on one based on the Runehound. It's been really difficult to find detailed ecology info on them though.

Cool. I can include them as tertiary playable race as at edge of the campaign setting. Touch spells at 10ft range might attract clerics or magus.

The scepter of the sorceror kings was found by a yuan-ti once in their backyard, so here I am to learn about em.
Definitely was a marvelous ecology video, lessons to apply to other monsters and humanoids and inbetween.
do they need to stay moist, can they travel well in dry environments? what about cold climates, do they enter a topor state like frogs do in the winter?
I imagine they would have cantrips and spells that would take care of that.
I dunno, do they? You can borrow traits from lots of different frogs to match a sub-race of grippli to a specific environment, they have been around since before the Batrachi empire fell and can be found potentially in all wetlands. They are peerless crafters of oils, tinctures, salves and unguents of native plants and insects, they could whip up some killer skin lotions :)
I gave grippli shaman 1 level occultist psionics for few cantrips and one of cleric to create idea of naturalistic spiritual religion and powers. Primordial macick.
Thank you for what you do. I've watched most of your videos over the course of the last few months. I came from star wars saga edition, but have this last year started playing 5e as a player. The whole of dnd lore is new to me, and I've been tasked by my group to dm our next campaign. Your thorough research has been such a great resource for me and made a new fan of these worlds and their lore and ecology.
I wanna make a Grung, Bullywug, or Grippli character based of ones from Amphibia. Great show BTW
AJ there is a rare creature from dragon lance called the "huddle folk" are you up to the challenge? You might find it a close encounter that will prove very interesting .
They are known as the huldrefolk. They do look similar to aliens 👽 though.
Sad they don't allow all members of the tribe to write. Sounds like a good reason to leave and become an adventurer. XD

I played a grippli ranger in Pathfinder once named Lagren Ouille, but I always pronounced the Lagren as if I were croaking. It took a month before someone got the pun in his name. The disgust was so worth it.

I was just thinking about a campaign world full of grippli , grung, saurons (large lizard folk), lizard folk, skinks (small lizard folk) and possibly bullywugs & kuo-toa, set in a tropical island archipelago. I just wonder if players might actually enjoy a game where the surviving the environment is just as much a struggle as overcoming some big bad evil genius.
Your fairly recent videos on giant land crabs & swamp anemones got me seriously thinking about it, but I wanted to do something different than the standard humans on a massive continent sort of game.
It certainly requires some player buy-in for that sort of game to work, but I have some tips.. restrict the use of metal, use alchemically hardened bamboo instead, it makes for an interesting challenge and gets the players thinking about a new technology. Make amphibian versions of much larger creatures and have things like flying fish mounts. Underwater, visibility makes wide open spaces scary, its like the place is always covered in fog with who knows what lurking just out of sight. And finally... There is Always a Bigger Fish.
@@AJPickett I was thinking bone, shell, spine or obsidian as a stand-in for metals, but alchemical bamboo might work.
Blending Island gigantism and island dwarfism would give you a really alien ecology and things like semi-domesticated ant farms growing ants the size of a chihuahua.
The mounts are a good idea, but canoes, outrigger canoes, catamarans and trimarans wouldn't be a poor fit for the islands too far to just swim. Cities like Great Harbor that sits on stilts in the shallow tidal straits between two islands would have taught them that certain woods float and certain ones sink, prompting a thriving offshore fishing industry.

Hello AJ, great video! I came across the Grippli looking up the Tasloi from the dwellers of the forbidden city module, the timing was incredible, I had just found them and then in your previous video you said a Grippli video was coming out. Sometimes I really do think we are caught in the matrix. I really like the idea of a Grippli becoming a member of the party, great suggestion! That's great news on your battle mats and can't believe they lowered the buying minimum for you, that's Awesome 😎! I keep forgetting to tell you I like the new logo of you. I think you where going for that Burt Reynolds look, does that mean we are all your little Rubber Ducky's now.

With their good relationship with elves, and their affinity for ranged combat with a specialization on hit and run tactics I'd think that the Deepwood Sniper prestige class would be a natural fit. A Grippli ranger/deepwood sniper would be a menace striking enemies from afar whilst on the ground, then leaping straight up in the trees to avoid melee and launching additional ranged attacks.
There's a part of me joking about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Kermit the Frog playing Rainbow Connection on his banjo lol

AJ, I'm so glad to hear the plan about your KS! I excitedly backed it pretty early on, but unfortunately backed out since it didn't look like it was going to make it. I am surprised though that people didn't jump on it! Looking forward to the new project and to it being just the mats.
The Grippli are one of my favorite races. You did such an amazing job with the video. Durring the introduction, I had my eyes closed and I felt like I was there with the elvish guide!
I wanna know more about the lore of the Grippli and Yuan-Ti that was cut from the final adventure by WoTC. The writer of the adventure had a lot more in mind and wasn't informed about the changes that were made until the book came out
Yes I heard about that. I think it was a mistake by WotC, they should have at least given him a chance to edit his own work.

The “No Writing” aspect is kinda crazy. No wizards or clerics, but druids and rangers. Makes me wonder if they are trying to avoid something. I’m glad the goal of the kickstarter was changed to the point of a success, I was worried!
Drow write and use arcane and divine magic and the Gripli don't like the drow. It might have to do with that.

D&D3e race templet : Half- Dragon, ...
From time to time in wet land and water areas a red, green, and black male dragons .. " discharge " in the waters during spring mating season. End result many large size half dragon insects, amphibians, and fish become hybrid with dragons. Giving them harden scale like skins, breath weapon abilities, improve self awareness, and a taste that other fine to be worth their time in hunting them down.
Along with a few forest known for having random fires or acidic waters. Some rivers are also known to be a bit dangerous cause the fish you hook on a line can very easy jump out of the water as you pull them into your boat and spit fire or acid on you. Heavens help you if you fall or jump into the water to put yourself out or try washing the acid off of you.
To make matter more endearing, some willy red dragon learn what it means to create .. fire ants .. to a whole new meaning. It is just the little things that you panic slap off of you that get you. Along with that green hag that keeps the half black dragon bull that studs her green beef cattle that has fathered all the local .. bull frogs. Needless to say, if you have a strong poison resistance to all the flavor additives the hag puts into her cheeses, they are very good to spread on crackers & breads. Best thing about her bull frogs, they don't taste remotely like chicken.
When are you gonna get around to more giants? There was mention of the Eldritch giant in your Storm giant video.

The new campaign page is not ready yet, when it is I will be asking existing backers to switch over as I will be cancelling the first campaign, due to the factory offering a better deal and a smaller production run, it changes what I can offer backers and greatly reduces the funding goal (so, if all the backers switch over, it will be fully funded right away and the campaign will only be one month long, then the mats get mailed off to everyone, and, each backer only pays the specific shipping cost to their exact location, so this will reduce the overall cost even more for many backers (it's not fair for people who live closer to have to pay a flat-rate).

@@itzybitzyspyder The pledge will be lower for everyone, and all the mats get manufactured a month after the second campaign is launched, the first campaign will be cancelled, no pledge funds will be collected from it, it will just be a video informing any visitors to the page that kickstarter doesn't allow funding goals to change if a situation changes at a factory. I know its annoying but please join the campaign that will get the project done :) I want to get these made and in DM's hands everywhere.

I dunno about that, I've been reading up on the crown wars and the sundering in the Forgotten Realms and lets just say I kinda get why Drow hate the Sun/Gold Elves so much. It's not exactly unjustified after what happened to the Drow leading up to their fall to Lolth and banishment form the surface

I always imagine them looking down on all the other races while barely concealing their contempt at best. Openly evil and trying to drive the other races to extinction at worst.

AJ how is the relationship between the Grippli and the Lizardmen, or even a better thought, how to they get along with aquatic elves in your campaign or in D&D cannon?
I imagine, as Lizardfolk commonly eat Grippli eggs, the Grippli would not like them
